Ghosted... slightly petty revenge

Nickynackynoodle · 04/02/2020 14:28

I've been ghosted by someone I had quite a long relationship with, long story short he's met someone super cool and fucked off with her, quite literally overnight. She's very well connected and is helping him with his future business plans which are admittedly very exciting.

I'm pretty pissed off (and heartbroken) as I have been essentially used for the last 12 months in a number of ways so... I have bought the www. domain names and set up social media accounts in the names that he was planning to use for his exciting business.

I probably ABU but I have long evenings alone now when I used to have someone in my life, I'm being highly self disciplined in not contacting him... I'm enjoying seeing him look at the banal stuff I'm posting on insta, trying to work out who's stolen his names.

If he tries to buy the domain names I will absolutely sell them and not at a profit, same as if he asks for the social media names. I just vainly hope that he will realise life won't always go his way because he's so fucking handsome and charming.

I'm getting over it btw, I don't want relationship advice!

@nickynackynoodle - Maybe, however case law is catching up with technology and we are starting to see 'cybersquatting' being taken seriously.

mothertruck3r · 04/02/2020 15:29

I would sell them at a profit. Don't be a martyr.

PhilCornwall1 · 04/02/2020 15:30

And very few domain names sell for a profit, most domain names are worth just what it costs to register them. He could just use a variation to name the business and the problem is overcome.

Wordsmith · 04/02/2020 15:30

This is the 2020 equivalent of breaking into his flat and leaving fish behind the radiator.

It's petty and childish and I love it. Smile

Wigglewhooooop · 04/02/2020 15:31

Make sure you do a search through nominet and icann to make sure none of your details are there. Personal domains should be private ... But check!

AnuvvaMuvva · 04/02/2020 15:31

You've checked the WHOIS register for the domains, I hope?

1forsorrow · 04/02/2020 15:31

Sell them for a profit, it's business.

Foslady · 04/02/2020 15:32

And that’s me who does the lottery thing - I know it’s petty but I don’t care, and i posted it on a thread asking for petty revenge stories.
And tbh - 14 million to 1? It’s more about the what if than the actual, and if you knew the backstory to him you’d be putting the numbers on too......

Foslady · 04/02/2020 15:35

Sorry - I thought you weren’t happy about me doing the lottery thing (on here when I shouldn’t be!)
He married me on my 40th after being together nearly 15 years and left me for someone else before my 41st......and I really am a nice person/ honest!!!!!

Halestorm · 04/02/2020 15:36

Foslady, if I lived in the UK I'd put his numbers as a line on my ticket for you as well Grin imagine if he shared the jackpot with about 50 mumsnetters.

Now that would be beautiful.

slipperywhensparticus · 04/02/2020 15:36

If he funds out you can say well I was buying it for a surprise but then you dumped me so I thought a profit would be better

gamerchick · 04/02/2020 15:37

Look, it's not your fault you bought them as a wonderful surprise for him while you were together. You weren't to know he would break up with you before you could give him his gift

I like this ^^

He's a cock, ghosting is a really nasty thing to do to someone and it hurts because there's no closure. Especially when you realise you meant very little to the person who's done it. I can't get holier than thou to a petty revenge that doesn't harm anyone.

Plus it'll serve as closure itself, as time goes on visiting the pages will gap longer and longer and eventually they won't matter at all... Or when he chooses another one. It'll be over mentally.

ProfessorPollington · 04/02/2020 15:37

Honestly I take my hat off to you OP. That is brilliant. I wouldn't worry too much about all the cyber squatting stuff if (1) he has not ever traded at the time you bought them and (2) you are willing to give them over for a reasonable price when he does finally ask.

Well done. I'd be proud.

AryaStarkWolf · 04/02/2020 15:38

That's the best story I've ever heard I think Grin I really hope he wins :p

Hollachica · 04/02/2020 15:38

Good for you.

It doesn't matter if he knows it is you or not.
Keep them (for ever) only sell if they buy you a car and now go and have a great life.

AryaStarkWolf · 04/02/2020 15:39

ahahahahaha omg

rabbitwoman · 04/02/2020 15:39

What a horrible, petty, cowardly thing to do, only makes the person doing it look emotionally stunted and cruel ...... Cutting off all contact with someone with whom you have had an intimate and loving relationship with no explanation and no warning, I mean! You are a complete queen! Not begging, not running after him, not trying to win him back, just quietly and confidently letting him know he's a low life shit and his actions are reprehensible.

Sell him the domain names at a massive profit. If he won't buy, just give them away to someone else. What a dick.

Why does he get away with behaving this way? And you're supposed to, what? Dissappear and not bother him again?

You are my idol.

LochJessMonster · 04/02/2020 15:40

I'd sell them to him for a profit and give it to charity.

I'd sell them to him for a profit and buy myself a handbag.

BedSprings · 04/02/2020 15:40

I like your style, op. Wink

MojitoMojitoo · 04/02/2020 15:41

Hahahah fantastic! You are my hero Grin

SistersOfPercy · 04/02/2020 15:42

Bravo OP! I love it!

DonKeyshot · 04/02/2020 15:43

I like your style, slipperywhensparticus.

The perfect reason for buying these particular domain names. Creative genius all round.

Here's another round Wine Wine Wine Grin

GCAcademic · 04/02/2020 15:44

In life, OP, one should always take the high road.

And taking the opportunity to teach a user and selfish opportunist a valuable lesson is very much taking the high road.

yunalis · 04/02/2020 15:45

I would double check the whois for the domains if I were you.
