Pooing in the en suite!!

Settle an age old debate between myself and my DH:

Shitting in the en suite:

Yes or no?

I say no, as it will stink the bedroom out and he disagrees and says that it doesn't matter. If he needs to go he'll go whichever toilets closets!!

A toilet is a toilet. All three of ours are used for whatever is needed. Granted the bathroom door is closed on a night anyway and all doors are left open upstairs during the day (except when in use) so smells don't linger too long.

I don't understand MN's weirdness over toilets (or answering doors).

DanceItOut · 04/02/2020 17:45

You think en suite is an issue? We live in a flat and our only toilet is right next to the kitchen diner....

Catapillarsruletheworld · 04/02/2020 17:48

It’s a toilet. It’s meant to be shat in.

mumeemoo · 04/02/2020 17:52

I don't have an ensuite but my DM made my Df build an additional loo the other side of the house for his sole use. (He was a builder) It was a different rule for her I believe Confused

MadamShazam · 04/02/2020 17:53

Ffs. Mumsnet is fucking crazy 🙄

Lincslady53 · 04/02/2020 17:57

OP, here is a tip. Do not go on a caravan or boating holiday.

Shell4429 · 04/02/2020 17:58

I don’t have an en-suite or a significant other. But I am still traumatised by the memory of being in the bath when my ex boyfriend came in, sat on the loo and proceeded to have a poo. I was shocked but he didn’t see anything wrong with it. Just one of the reasons he is my ex.

Rtruth · 04/02/2020 18:00

What if you have stinky wee? Is that not aloud!

MrsKoala · 04/02/2020 18:02

Everyone’s saying you shut the door and turn on the fan as if it’s a given all en suites have a door and a fan. Ours doesn’t. The bedroom has an archway into an en-suite shower, small sink and loo and if anyone has a shit in there it stinks the room out for at least half an hour - Much longer if it’s my husband.

Also because there is no door I can pop into the bedroom without realising and get a full view of someone on the throne - which isn’t pleasant. So despite being a ‘toilets are for shitting in’ (including workmen) person, I do really hate it if someone goes in there, especially before bed time or while I’m sleeping.

Dellgib85 · 04/02/2020 18:02

We have 2 IBS sufferers in our house so we shit wherever is closest or risk a poonami 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don't mind turds being dropped in the en suite as long as the window is opened, air freshener sprayed and en suite door closed afterwards.

PigletJohn · 04/02/2020 18:03

"as if it’s a given all en suites have a door and a fan. Ours doesn’t. "

So put that right.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 04/02/2020 18:04

Ours is strictly wee's only unless ill.

snickers69 · 04/02/2020 18:09

I’m ok
My poo smells of flowers 😄

PetiteMuffin · 04/02/2020 18:09

It’s a toilet! Get some air freshener... turn on the fan... get over it!

Sparklycrystals · 04/02/2020 18:11

Nope

FelicisNox · 04/02/2020 18:11

2 words: extractor fan.

As someone with the unfortunate combo of IBS and shy bowel I go wherever the nearest loo is.

Also, it's a toilet. That's what it's there for.

IrmaFayLear · 04/02/2020 18:11

No door on a loo - just WRONG. I remember viewing a house where the bathroom was part of the bedroom - not even an "archway" . They had made a bedroom into an en-suite but had removed all the walls. It was very high-spec, too, not some diy job. I couldn't even bear to imagine sitting up in bed whilst dh was on the loo right in front of me...

Troels · 04/02/2020 18:11

Hell yes, en-suite, nice and quiet and private, poo away.
But some would rather stink up the kids bathroom Confused
I would never buy a hosue with no door to the en-suite and no fan unless both were being put in right away.

Doubletrouble99 · 04/02/2020 18:11

I'm in the open the window and put on the fan fraternity, however in a touring caravan, motorhome or house boat. try not to! not only will it stink the whole place out but pity the person who has to empty the toilet tank!!!

mynameisntlouise · 04/02/2020 18:17

We've got an en-suite, a family bathroom and a downstairs toilet (toilets galore in new builds) and the en-suite is my preferred toilet for everything, I would walk past t e other two toilets to get to my preferred toilet. This has changed since I've had a child and it's easier to use the downstairs but I used to very rarely use the other toilets.

My husband will go in whatever toilet is furthest away from wherever I am. We've lived together for 9 years and he still locks me out the bathroom, I'm not even allowed in if he's brushing his teeth.

Nothing7 · 04/02/2020 18:20

I deliberately didn’t have a toilet in our en-suite for that reason - so technically not an en-suite - we have a shower and sink

MrsKoala · 04/02/2020 18:23

Surely it’s just easier to crap in one of the other toilets in the house than having work done? The archway is the original exterior wall so about a foot thick, I’m not sure how a door would look. It’s not something we intended to change as we were planning knocking it all thru in 2 years. But now I doubt we will. The whole house needs loads of work (which is why we got it cheaper) and it most definitely is not at the top of the list of stuff which needs doing!

It’s now becoming dds room anyway.

twigglett99 · 04/02/2020 18:25

We have three toilets, all for pooing, and use them according to what else is going on in the house. So if someone’s about to have a bath, don’t poo in the family bathroom. If we have guests downstairs, go upstairs etc. it’s not rocket science.

Friedmushroom · 04/02/2020 18:32

En-suite is ‘my’ bathroom so hells yeah. Not if he’s in the bedroom or just before bed though, like to keep some mystery in the relationship!

BlueThursday · 04/02/2020 18:32

Absolutely not.

Tradesmen, however, should be positively encouraged
