Pooing in the en suite!!

Settle an age old debate between myself and my DH:

Shitting in the en suite:

Yes or no?

I say no, as it will stink the bedroom out and he disagrees and says that it doesn't matter. If he needs to go he'll go whichever toilets closets!!

I only shit in my en suite. Usually before I shower, the fan is on and I open the window when I've finished, and hopefully not just before my husband wants to be in there.

I don't know what the big deal is. I don't worry about the landing getting polluted if someone poos in the main bathroom, so the same goes for our bedroom. If what I was passing was so noxious it would be unpleasant for those in the next room, I'd be changing my diet before I changed my toilet habits.

PettyContractor · 03/02/2020 08:26

No smell should ever reach the bedroom. If it does, you need a better extractor fan.

concernedforthefuture · 03/02/2020 08:26

No. TBH, I've never understood the appeal of an en-suite. I can't think of anything less romantic than lying in bed listening to (or smelling) your significant other having a shitConfused!

CrotchetyQuaver · 03/02/2020 08:28

Shut the door turn on the fan and burn a couple of matches afterwards? Should clear the stink. We had a windowless bathroom for many years and survived!

MotherHeggy · 03/02/2020 08:29

As long as it's in the toilet, who cares? That's what a toilet is for, after all.

Babynut1 · 03/02/2020 08:29

We have 3 toilets. DHs poos absolutely stink, so I make him use the main bathroom upstairs. I don’t want my bedroom smelling of shite and I don’t want our downstairs being drunk out either 😷

Babynut1 · 03/02/2020 08:29

Stunk not drunk

GiveHerHellFromUs · 03/02/2020 08:31

I don’t want my bedroom smelling of shite and I don’t want our downstairs being drunk out either 😷

Just open the window or turn on fan.
Sometimes people have shy poo and prefer an en-suite because it’s quieter and more private.
Especially guests using en-suite off their guest bedroom.

JRUIN · 03/02/2020 08:37

Christ if your DH's shit smells that bad perhaps you should dig him a hole in the garden.

Topseyt · 03/02/2020 08:38

It is a toilet. They are meant for shitting in. Your extractor fan or open window should deal with the smells, along with a good dose of air freshener.

I always find this rule-making about which toilets can be shat in rather weird. It's a non-issue. He is taking a dump in an appropriate receptacle, not in the middle of the bedroom floor.

Rhubarbncustard4 · 03/02/2020 08:38

Use the extractor fan

Hollachica · 03/02/2020 08:41

Bloody hell, it is a toilet, shut the fucking door and make sure the pan is clean after finishing. If you are that bothered get an air fresh spray or fabreeze.

Christ, I have heard it all now ....

Wellhellooothere · 03/02/2020 08:41

er, yes but with the window open! And we don't generally of one of us is in the bedroom at the time. Both women though, and as I understand it blokes can be a bit smellier...
Can't imagine telling DW where she can and can't have a poo!

puds11 · 03/02/2020 08:42

Fucking hell no! Unless no other option is available!

Wellhellooothere · 03/02/2020 08:43

Only on Mumsnet would there be a debate about using a toilet as an actual toilet Grin

PlumsGalore · 03/02/2020 08:43

I also dislike en suites, I wouldn’t have one, not just for the smell but DH gets up
much earlier than me, makes loads of noise, steam and spends ages shaving and sitting on the loo.

Just why would you want this so close to your bed. I see en suites losing popularity in the future and a large separate bathroom returning to favour.

A new build with small bedrooms and a five foot square en suite squashed in is my idea of hell.

TheRealShatParp · 03/02/2020 08:46

If it’s a toilet then you can shit in it.
You can’t argue over this, you have your own preferences.

londonrach · 03/02/2020 08:46

Its a toilet..use whatever toilet is closer.

SerenDippitty · 03/02/2020 08:47

How do people manage in hotel rooms if pooing in the ensuite is banned?

Chloemol · 03/02/2020 08:48

It’s a toilet, there to be used. Just flush, use spray if necessary or a fan. I don’t get all these you can’t poo in this one, dint flush at night etc etc. They are there for a reason

RedPanda2 · 03/02/2020 08:49

Light a candle??? Luckily I'm poor so don't have this life changing issue

MabelMoo23 · 03/02/2020 08:50

You see I’m the opposite, if DH is downstairs then I’d rather go to the en-suite because it’s the furthest loo away and I like privacy

Obviously if he’s in the bedroom, absolutely not!

Salamander91 · 03/02/2020 08:51

I always use the ensuite. If I try and use the main bathroom its guaranteed that at least one of the kids will suddenly be desperate to go 🤦‍♀️

TatianaLarina · 03/02/2020 08:52

En suite does not mean bathroom.
