Should carrot cake have raisins in?

Reallybadidea · 02/02/2020 12:28

Planning to make a carrot cake to take to work tomorrow. I know some people hate raisins but the recipe I generally use has them as an ingredient. I will abide by the MN jury.

YABU = dried fruit is an abomination, leave them out.
YANBU = raisins are a welcome addition to a moist carrot cake.

Can’t vote because I like dried fruit but raisins don’t belong in carrot cake.

Lockheart · 02/02/2020 12:32

Depends entirely on the recipe you're using.

Peony99 · 02/02/2020 12:33

Hell no. Yuk.

BruceAndNosh · 02/02/2020 12:34

No to raisins.
I might consider sultanas at a push

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 02/02/2020 12:34

If you use the same recipe as me, the raisins add a certain something (preplumped, ideally with brandy) - tis the best carrot cake recipe and always gets compliments. If you don't, then leave them out.

TheFastandTheCurious · 02/02/2020 12:34

No raisins in a carrot cake, it would put me right off.

Potatobug · 02/02/2020 12:34

It shouldn’t even have carrots in it.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 02/02/2020 12:35

Dried fruit is an abomination in carrot cake.

slipperywhensparticus · 02/02/2020 12:35

Its supposed to be sultanas not dead flies

ButDoYouAvacado · 02/02/2020 12:35

Just derail slightly - I'm making one today for the first time, which recipe are you using?

Spieluhr · 02/02/2020 12:36

Absolutely not. Nothing should have raisins in it.

DorisDances · 02/02/2020 12:36

Definitely sultanas if adding dried fruit. Walnuts are always a popular addition.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/02/2020 12:37

Sultanas for sure!

Spieluhr · 02/02/2020 12:38

I love carrot cake and I want to cry every time I see one in a cafe and it contains bloody dried fruit(and walnuts).

Ikora · 02/02/2020 12:38

I am going to write exactly what Peony99 wrote, hell no, yuk!

I like raisins but not in carrot cake.

DesLynamsMoustache · 02/02/2020 12:38

I wish they didn't. Would have saved us a costly trip to the vet after DDog snaffled half a Co-op carrot cake off the side.

Shadowcats · 02/02/2020 12:39

Difficult to answer your AIBU - dried fruit is lovely where it belongs; it does not belong in a carrot cake.

HardAsSnails · 02/02/2020 12:40

Another vote for sultanas. Never raisins.

Fatasfooook · 02/02/2020 12:41

Yes! Essential ingredient

pigsDOfly · 02/02/2020 12:46

I love carrot cake but raisins should never be part of a carrot cake.

And as for adding sultanas? Who would do that?

bridgetreilly · 02/02/2020 12:48

Nope, nope, nope. Sultanas if you must, but better without either.

PurpleSproutingSomething · 02/02/2020 12:49

I like dried fruit in carrot cake, my son however doesn't. So we don't have them in.

WhatAGreatDay · 02/02/2020 12:50

I put raisins in my carrot cake.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 02/02/2020 12:52

Absolutely.

ByAppointmentTo · 02/02/2020 12:52

Definitely sultanas but no raisins.
