To think the 90s was only the other day and dd should not think it's retro

The 60s is retro, right?

Probablygreen · 02/02/2020 22:13

Fun fact: there is as much time between us and the Lion King as between the Lion King and the moon landing.

😱 noooooooo!

Nancydrawn · 02/02/2020 22:20

Yes. It is alarming.

(I love comparative ages. Like, Cleopatra is closer to us in time than she was to the building of the pyramids.)

(I often feel like I'm closer to the building of the pyramids than I am to Diplo.)

TrainspottingWelsh · 02/02/2020 22:29

The 90's was also the last era to enjoy widespread underage clubbing, raves, gigs, drinking etc.

Yy Graphista a colleague mentioned it the other day. It's one of the few things I can't wait to watch. Don't know if it's still there but queer as folk was on YouTube a couple of years ago.

However it turns out Jackass and Beavis and Butthead aren't that amusing without mind altering substances.

raspberryk · 02/02/2020 22:35

I'm in my early 30's, when I was young 60's & 70's was retro, that'd be vintage now and 90's is retro. Sorry OP it's 30 years ago!

Oakenbeach · 02/02/2020 22:36

The 90's were 10 years ago - the 80's were retro and cool like my mums wedding dress, the 80's were 20 years ago.

You do realise it’s 2020.... Perhaps the mind-altering substances you took back then addled with your ability to do the most basic of maths. Hmm

Oakenbeach · 02/02/2020 22:38

I remember the 90s... 60s and 70s were retro back then so YABU. Sorry OP, time to face the fact you’re middle aged!

TeetotalKoala · 02/02/2020 23:16

You do realise it’s 2020.... Perhaps the mind-altering substances you took back then addled with your ability to do the most basic of maths. hmm

No, she's not lost the ability to do maths. It's already been said upthread. We're in some weird space time continuum. Because the 90s were definitely only 10 years ago.

And kindly piss off with your middle aged comments Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 02/02/2020 23:27

The 60s and 70s can't be "vintage" because I was a teenager then
I'm NOT vintage
< indignant >

Unusualsuspicion · 02/02/2020 23:28

"Perhaps the mind-altering substances you took back then addled with your ability to do the most basic of maths. hmm'

I used to think that putting 'lighthearted' in a thread title was ridiculous as surely it's blindingly obvious when people aren't being 100% serious. But clearly not Confused.

At least us elderly people with our drug-addled brains still know how to recognise a deadpan comment at 50 paces...

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 02/02/2020 23:29

My DD (nearly 7) asked me what year I was born in and I replied '81. Her response...NINEteen 81? Shock how old does she think I am that she had to check it was the most recent of the '81s?!?

Anyway, I left high school in 1999. It was not and can't possibly be 21 years ago now! That's almost half my lifetime!!!

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 02/02/2020 23:40

YANBU obviously (!) but I'm glad modern teens think 1990s cool as well and retro....

Kolo · 02/02/2020 23:46

@haudmadug

I think the 45 year old me is still craving that sort of excitement.

I'm the same year as you. I do wonder if 96/97 was just a brilliant couple of years, or whether it's brilliant for every 21 year old? I'd got a bit of money in my pocket, no responsibilities, energy to go out every night, hangovers weren't as bad as they are these days, festivals all over the place, music was everything, boys all shaved their heads a la trainspotting and I could wear hipsters and cropped t shirts without ridicule. If the 45 year old me was transported to that time, I don't think I could keep up with 21 year old me.

Devilsadv0caat · 02/02/2020 23:46

Retro is defined as ”similar to styles, fashions, etc. from the past”
3” years ago certainly fits that definition.

DevilsAdv0caat · 02/02/2020 23:46

*30

Frogshoe · 03/02/2020 00:32

DD 11 found my 90's trainer collection when we moved house with beauties such as chipie (silver and gold)and acupuncture(velcro). Her friends wanted to know where she got all the cool vintage trainers Sad

TeacupDrama · 03/02/2020 20:58

the 60's are equidistant between us and the Victorians strange thought

Fannia · 03/02/2020 21:01

Omg some of the facts on this thread are making me feel even older, but nice to know most people agree the 90s were only 10 years ago at most.

I was quite pleased today to go to a medical appointment and be told I’m ‘young’. I’m 38 but it’s all relative! Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 03/02/2020 21:17

"the 60's are equidistant between us and the Victorians"
< screams in horror >

All 4 of my GPs were born in the 19th century, 1870s-1890s Shock
So all were Victorians

TrainspottingWelsh · 03/02/2020 22:14

Teacup If you have even a shred of decency you'll report your post and ask for it to be deleted for the offensive and distressing content Grin

TeacupDrama · 03/02/2020 22:51

Trainspotting Welsh Grin Wine to help you cope Gin

TrainspottingWelsh · 03/02/2020 22:57

Teacup Grin But if it was really the 90's it would be a glass of taboo and lemonade and a bottle of 20/20. Or possibly some emoticons that resembled pharmaceutical products.

ArthurDentsSpaceTowel · 03/02/2020 23:09

I recently re-read a 'futuristic' Isaac Asimov story called 'The Fun They Had'. Written in the 1970s, it featured children whose 'school' was home with a cyber-teacher, text on screens and the mysterious discovery of an ancient artefact called a 'book'. The part that makes me chuckle now, though, is the passing reference to the 'ancient 1990 radio'...

Whatisthisfuckery · 03/02/2020 23:10

Fuck off was 1990 30 years ago. It was 10 years ago tops.I left school in 98 and that was only last thursday.

Kids are so thick nowadays, they can’t even count.

Mumof1andacat · 03/02/2020 23:28
