The 60s is retro, right?

Tumbleweed101 · 01/02/2020 21:33

Very scary to think how far back the 90's were now. Doesn't seem a moment ago. I had my first child in '98 and he's going to be 22 this year - I gave birth to him when I was 22!

PullingMySocksUp · 01/02/2020 21:34

So are the 90s retro and cool? Can I go back to wearing my old clothes then?Grin

undercoveraessedai · 01/02/2020 21:34

Had this recently with a cousin listening to the music of my teens and describing it as vintage... YANBU!

Goes off to sob into a cuppa at the idea of the 90s being 20-25 years ago 😳

goldenorbspider · 01/02/2020 21:34

I sell clothes on depop and the 00s are considered vintage Hmm

calpolatdawn · 01/02/2020 21:35

60s is vintage , 80s,90s is retro now,

Fannia · 01/02/2020 21:36

Dd watching Friends, a cameo from Brad Pitt gets a big cheer. She googles him. "Ew, he's so old now"

In the 90's people were wearing flares and calling the 60's and 70's retro.

Plus in the 90's clubs such a reflex and pop world were retro clubs and that's only 30-20 years.

It's the same thing.

milliefiori · 01/02/2020 21:36

DC now wear my clothes from the Noughties and think they are retro.

Bezalelle · 01/02/2020 21:42

The undergrads I teach all dress the same way I dressed when I was at 6th form in the 1990s!

MsVestibule · 01/02/2020 21:42

I know she's your daughter and everything, but honestly, she needs to learn how to count. The 1990s were not 20-30 years ago. 5, maybe 6. 7 tops. Retro my arse.

Although thinking about it, it does seem a long time since all those young women of my age were having barbed wire and Celtic bands tattooed around their upper arms 🤔.

doritosdip · 01/02/2020 21:44

1990 is as far away from today as 2050

My kids consider 90s retro as it's well before they were born.

I'm born in the 70s so consider 60s retro

jjjnnnnnrrssss · 01/02/2020 21:45

60s were retro in the 90s, so we're the 70s. That's only a 20-30 year difference. 1990 was 30 years ago, so yes, it is retro.

NoooorthonerMum · 01/02/2020 21:46

We've barely left the 90s you're absolutely right. 80s are a little bit old and 70s are retro. 90s music is definitely modern. I'd also like to point out that people born after the year 2000 can absolutely not be old enough to drink. Maybe they could have just about learned to walk and string a couple of words together but no way could they be driving a car and leaving home. Just not possible, sorry.

Allshookup4 · 01/02/2020 21:49

I left school in the 90s, only a couple of years ago.

BeBraveAndBeKind · 01/02/2020 21:50

DS2 saw a play last week and described it as being set in "modern times and the 1990s". I tried to protest that the 90s were modern times but he was having none of it.

zen1 · 01/02/2020 21:50

YANBU! 90’s was a couple of years ago, 80s (when I was young teen) was 10 years ago. 70s can be considered retro, but they are not nearly 50 years ago FFSShock

Fannia · 01/02/2020 21:51

Surely we just got over the stress of the millennium bug?

Valkarie · 01/02/2020 21:55

I have seen a gazillion boys with curtains hair lately, I don't think it can have stopped being the 90's.

Smellslikebiscuits · 01/02/2020 21:55

Have fully converted to Absolute Radio 90s from Radio 2. I’ve avoided commercial radio for years, but now I get to listen to music I know and love all day. Love introducing it all to DS

HarrietSchulenberg · 01/02/2020 21:58

When I was revising for my O Levels I remember procrastinating by watching a programme about the release of The Beatles' Sgt Pepper called It Was Twenty Years Ago Today. It felt like a proper history documentary.

The gap between me watching that programme and Sgt Pepper being released, and me watching that programme and now, is considerably wider (33 years).

HTF did that happen?

MsTSwift · 01/02/2020 21:58

Dd aged 13 taken to wearing dh university sports kit because it’s “vintage” apparently Hmm dh is only 43!

TrainspottingWelsh · 01/02/2020 21:58

Can't be retro, I still have, and wear some dms from the 90's. And some T-shirts. I'd probably still be wearing the jeans if I didn't need my circulation. It's definitely a sign you're getting old when your teen dc go vintage shopping in your wardrobe and the loft.

Unless something changes, the 90's was the last decade to have bands/ music with long lived cult status. Whatever your personal taste, the 60's onwards all had a few, but I can't imagine in 20/30/40 years time the music from the 00's and 2010's still having a cult following.

And if my theoretical grandchild ever decided to rebel by dressing like Justin Beiber and dancing childishly to shit music I'm afraid I'd have to disown them.

mnthrowaway202020 · 01/02/2020 22:00

It’s definitely retro, especially to anyone who didn’t live through it. I was born in 96 and can’t remember a single thing about the 90s.

lorettalemon · 01/02/2020 22:01

I've been convinced we must be in about 2007 for the last decade and the 90s wasn't that long ago. I feel a lot of nostalgia for the 90s. The teenagers thinking it's retro and cool to wear such old styles makes me feel old!

stuffingball · 01/02/2020 22:01

Oh my god I feel so old! Shock
