The 60s is retro, right?

OP posts:
thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 02/02/2020 00:21

That lion king fact is crazy!

giggleshizz · 02/02/2020 08:21

Went to uni in 1991 which was basically 5 minutes ago. I now teach people at uni born in the 2000's. There must be some Einsteinian space-time continuum juju going on 🤦

NurseButtercup · 02/02/2020 08:29

I’ll be 41 this year and that means I’ve lived in 6 decades...70’s, 80’s, 90’s,00’s,10’s, 20’s

I was happily reading the thread and chuckling to some of the posts and sailing along in denial until I read this post. omg I'm in my 40's....in the eyes of tweens I'm really really old!! Shit, when did that happen?!? Blush

Thinkingaboutsummer2020 · 02/02/2020 08:31

I’m with you OP! The last decade pretty much hasn’t happened to me due to a fog of child rearing! 😂

Bella2020 · 02/02/2020 08:32

The 60s and 70s are retro. It's too early for any later decade to be considered retro. Instead, they're just a bit naff.

Sharkyfan · 02/02/2020 08:33

The realisation that the 90s are to the 20s, what the 60s were to the 90s has freaked me right out!!

When I was a teen in the 90s the 60s were proper retro.
And I’m sure that fashion and society etc has changed less drastically since 1990 to now than it did from 1960-1990.

Fieldofgreycorn · 02/02/2020 08:38

Shocking isn’t it. It really is.
Today’s 18 and 19 year olds starting uni were born after the 90s so yes it will seem very retro to them.

Think of the decade before you were born - that’s the equivalent of the 90s to them.

AJPTaylor · 02/02/2020 08:48

You see I think that. And then I fave the fact that DD1, born in 1995 is actually 25 this month.

FlamingoAndJohn · 02/02/2020 08:53

I love that some people are taking the op completely seriously and pointing out that the 90 was 30 years ago.

Anyway. The 70s were 30 years ago. Everyone knows that.

Moreanonymousme · 02/02/2020 08:54

I was in my staff room at work having lunch the other day with a group of colleagues, some were around my age (40s) and some in their 20s. We were talking about kids tv shows we grew up watching, and the youngsters were like, "we don't remember that"
Made me feel old because I remember being the young person, having chats like that with the older ones and I'm sure that was only 5 minutes ago!

FiveFarthings · 02/02/2020 08:55

In my head the 70s were only 30 years ago. Have to keep readjusting my head to remember they are 50 years ago now!

I grew up in the 90s and can’t believe it when I see ‘young’ people (I say ‘young’ people because I don’t see myself as old yet!) wearing fashions from the 90s and wonder why- fashion in the 90s was shit!

GaaaaarlicBread · 02/02/2020 08:56

My 6 year old cousin asked me when I started school the other day, I said ‘1998’ she looked at me completely gone out and said ‘that makes you ANCIENT 😧’ i was gobsmacked lol

TeacupDrama · 02/02/2020 08:59

The 70's are actually 40-50 years ago, 1990 is 30 years ago, I was born in the 60's, the Beatles were old fashioned by the time I was a teenager, the 80's is properly vintage emerald decide and bright blue batwing jumpers and leg warmers

Thinkingaboutsummer2020 · 02/02/2020 08:59

@itsemily I left school in 1999! 😂😂😂

TeacupDrama · 02/02/2020 09:00

Why spellcheck turned cerise into decide I have no idea, maybe it can't comprehend anyone wearing cerise and emerald at the same time

Refreshed · 02/02/2020 09:06

Tee Yes, it's right. I was born in 98 and I'm 30 this decade

Coldemort · 02/02/2020 09:09

I went to uni in 99 and we had a retro night in the student union. It was called Relax and played 80's music....
By that logic it the 2010's that are now retro...

FlamingoAndJohn · 02/02/2020 09:18

The 70's are actually 40-50 years ago

No no no. Fake news. The 70s were 30 years ago.

FaithInfinity · 02/02/2020 09:26

Oh my gosh..yup it’s making me feel old. I went to an 80s vs 90s silent disco last night (you could chose which stream to listen to). It was awesome! Took me back to my youth. I dusted off my purple DMs I got in 1995, my Mum wouldn’t let me have them til she knew my feet had stopped growing (I was 14). I’m glad the 90s are coming back as retro. I’ve bought some massive flared jeans from Boden, skinny really wasn’t my style. I’d forgotten how ace those DMs were actually, I’m wearing them more again now!

x2boys · 02/02/2020 09:28

Yes the 90,s was only a couple of years ago and people born in the 90,s shouldn't be old enough to be fully functioning adults that can work and have their own children ,they should be small children at primary school, but than ds1was born in 2006 and 13 so it's all wrong somewhere Shock

TwentyViginti · 02/02/2020 09:45

Ah, youngsters make these mistakes. My DD insists she's in her 30s when I know FOR A FACT she is only 5 years old and WHAT IS SHE DOING DRIVING ffs.

bitheby · 02/02/2020 10:13

Sadly we're old. I was talking to my nephew about 90s music recently - of course it's the best music - and he said we might as well be listening to music from the Ancient Egyptians' time. He's 12. I feel your pain.

Dollywilde · 02/02/2020 10:17

To be fair I was born in 1989 and I’m jealous of anyone who was a teen in the 90s. Britpop, grunge, raves etc - far better than the crap music and fashions we were subjected to in my own (2002 - 2008) teens.

Lordfrontpaw · 02/02/2020 10:24

We show DS pop videos from the 80s and 90s - although some is utter crap there is still some good stuff in there. I think he is still traumatised by Cuddly Toy though (you’ve got to dance and sing along to that one).

tothesea · 02/02/2020 10:42

I was talking to a work colleague about a CBeebies show that DS1 (13) loved when he was wee. She said ‘oh yeh I loved that too’ ...sorry what?

Turns out she was born in 1997....sobs.
