To think the 90s was only the other day and dd should not think it's retro

The 60s is retro, right?

! sell antiques and vintage stuff so technically vintage is more than 25 years old so before 1995, I would say at the millenium 60-70's stuff was vintage so it is reasonable to assume 80-90's stuff is now vintage
antique is roughly 100 so art deco stuff is now antique rather than vintage

Echobelly · 01/02/2020 22:02

Sorry, as another 90s kid I can confirm that given that 70s and 80s were our retro, the 90s is totally retro for teenagers now (mesh tops! rave jeans! combats! tiny tees! tea dresses! DMs! chokers! Grin )

Rowgtfc72 · 01/02/2020 22:02

Popped up on my time line on Facebook from last year. Dario g Sunchyme was released 22 years ago.
Nah. It was last week, honest, I've just put my nirvana t shirt in the wash!Confused

lorettalemon · 01/02/2020 22:03

I also can't get my head round the fact that people born after the year 2000 could be adults. It hit me the other day with something about how an album was released 25 years ago and I still feel like it must have only just come out!

Nogodsnomasters · 01/02/2020 22:05

Op, she had to Google Brad Pitt?! What is going on in the world. The 90's couldn't be anything further than 10-12 years ago max.

Witchend · 01/02/2020 22:06

Dd did up "to the year 2000" on history. Shock

Beamur · 01/02/2020 22:06

YABU
We are old(er)
It's vintage.

Topseyt · 01/02/2020 22:07

My two eldest DDs were born in the nineties. They are aged 25 (almost) and 21.

Makes me feel old. Surely it was only 5 minutes ago.

Likethebattle · 01/02/2020 22:09

I’ll be 41 this year and that means I’ve lived in 6 decades...70’s, 80’s, 90’s,00’s,10’s, 20’s😱

Fairypiggy · 01/02/2020 22:13

It doesn’t feel like the 00s weren’t long ago to me. I have been rewatching The OC and was surprised how dated some of the clothes looked eg little cropped cardigans, Big bets, low jeans, little scarves.

Refreshed · 01/02/2020 22:15

I was born in 1998.. But, when I think of ten years ago, I think of 2001/2003. No idea why.

I'm bloody 30 this decade. Not exactly old but not entirely young and the very meaning of youthful either.

Wow.

Fannia · 01/02/2020 22:15

The OC, one of these modern shows I don't get.

My DC were born in the 90s. I know they're adults but it was only recently. A teenager told me they're learning about the fall of the Berlin Wall in History at school. How can that be history? We still use the same radio every day on which I listened to that news.

TeetotalKoala · 01/02/2020 23:09

@Refreshed I left school in 1998. You can't possibly be almost 30. Because it was five minutes ago I swear.

Verily1 · 01/02/2020 23:15

I studied the Berlin Wall as history at uni in the 90s!

It’s that young people now don’t remember life before 9/11 that’s sad.

sideorderofchips · 01/02/2020 23:22

Nooo I'm not that old. I just purchased Docs today...

mnthrowaway202020 · 01/02/2020 23:23

It’s just like in the future, there will be born and bred Brits who will never have been part of the EU during their lifetime/Brexit will be their norm etc

mrsBtheparker · 01/02/2020 23:28

I am old enough to almost pass out with shock when I realised that 1970 was 50 years ago!

I remember going home in about '83 and telling my parents we were studying the Cuban Missile Crisis in O Level History (Syllabus we covered was Modern World History) and them both being shocked as they remembered that. So it was ever thus. Grin

Mummyscrewedup · 01/02/2020 23:35

@Verily1 I'm 1993 and 9/11 Is the first major news event that I remember and impacted my life. I can just about remember life before it and the fear after it!

MillicentMartha · 01/02/2020 23:46

The 1970s were 30 years ago. And my knowledge of basic maths refuses to agree with me...

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 01/02/2020 23:49

I'm 40, but I only left school five years ago in 1998.

Nancydrawn · 01/02/2020 23:54

Fun fact: there is as much time between us and the Lion King as between the Lion King and the moon landing.

nuttymoon · 01/02/2020 23:56

People born in the last year of the 90s are now in their 3rd decade. That's heading for middle age Grin

Unusualsuspicion · 02/02/2020 00:08

All you people born in the late 90s you should be in bed not posting on Mumsnet, it's late and under-10s need their sleep you know.
