To have left friends wedding after ceremony and not gone to reception - FUMING!!

The ceremony was fabulous. Everyone was happy. I went to congratulate friend and new husband afterwards and she looked me up and down, wrinkled her nose and said "nice dress" in a really sarky tone.
I felt so embarassed as other people noticed. She can be blunt sometimes but has never made me feel like this. I am so angry.
I didnt want to make a scene or even let her know I was angry, I just pretended not to have noticed her tone, made my excuses and walked to speak to some other people.
I maid a snap decision (after two other people mentioned that they had saw the incident)that I would not be going to the reception.
I didn't see my friend but have asked mutual friends not to mention anything but if she notices my absence to say that I had to leave as DD was unwell. Not big or brave I know.
Did I do the wrong thing?

LucyJones · 01/09/2007 19:31

oops x posts. please show us the real dress

IntergalacticWalrus · 01/09/2007 19:32
Hmm
BecauseImWorthIt · 01/09/2007 19:32

Good for your friend to make her comment. If this is a serious post, I think it's an appalling choice of clothing for a wedding.

You are being totally, totally unreasonable and very obtuse if you can't see that this is something completely unacceptable to wear to a wedding.

3andnomore · 01/09/2007 19:32

phew...hannie...thank god

BecauseImWorthIt · 01/09/2007 19:32

Sorry - just realised this was a joke! (I hope?!)

What did you really wear then?

LIZS · 01/09/2007 19:33

phew !

Hannie55 · 01/09/2007 19:33

Dont have a link for my dress, but irts long floaty summery colours, maybe a bit too hippy for some but thats me!!

OP posts:
LucyJones · 01/09/2007 19:33

is the whole thread a wind up?
or just the lurid clubbing dress?!!

filthymindedvixen · 01/09/2007 19:34

Hannie you are a minx! nOW what did you really wear?

IntergalacticWalrus · 01/09/2007 19:34

Thank God, Hannie.

C'mon. what was the real dress like?

BacktoBasics · 01/09/2007 19:34

Is this a wind up? It's an ok dress but not for a wedding. I am not suprised by her comment i'm afraid.

LucyJones · 01/09/2007 19:34

aarrggh, keep xing posts!
very rude of her to say something, I would have been gutted too

dissle · 01/09/2007 19:35

ok, still think wedding friend is a bitch...

what were you really wearing, lets see....

IntergalacticWalrus · 01/09/2007 19:35

A long floaty dress wouldn't be inappropriate for a wedding imho, except for if it had the word "divorce" embroidered rouind the hem.

filthymindedvixen · 01/09/2007 19:36

Hanni I wore a long floaty patchwork dress once for a friend's wedding (I was a hippy) and it was quite a grand wedding and as soons as I got there I felt a little foolish and under-dressed but everyone was charming and I got many compliments including the bride. So yes, your friend was being unreasonable.

lionheart · 01/09/2007 19:36

Just the pink dress part but we are a polite bunch, aren't we?

IntergalacticWalrus · 01/09/2007 19:37

TBH< I think your bridezillz chum was OOO for satying anything.

If I ever get round to getting marrowsd, I won;t care what my guests wear, as long as they don;t com along in a full bondage masks and gimp suists

dissle · 01/09/2007 19:37

lol at divorce around hem......

ScaryHairy · 01/09/2007 19:37

Your friend is very rude. To be honest, even if you had turned up in the inappropriate pink number she still would have been out of order to make you feel bad. And I fail to see how long and floaty can't be right (unless I have been pissing off brides for the last 5 years...)

Ulysees · 01/09/2007 19:40

that was obviously a wind up Although Raquel welch wore something almost as revealing to her son's wedding AFAIK?

Your friend sounds like she has a personality disorder.

pirategirl · 01/09/2007 19:41

LMAO @ intergalactic's divorce comment

Hurlyburly · 01/09/2007 19:41

YABU. Dress out of order for a wedding. You know that really. Sorry. I bet you looked absolutely gorgeous and how lovely to have the figure to carry it off. But not appropriate for a wedding.

filthymindedvixen · 01/09/2007 19:41

at my wedding we had everything from my sister in full 'Mother of the bride' OTT outfit and hat to 100 members of a motorcycle club in raggy leathers etc. I hope everyone was made to feel equally welcome

filthymindedvixen · 01/09/2007 19:42

hurly, Hanni has already said she was teasing about the pink dress on the link. She was wearing long and floaty.
