Sausages

Catching up on Best Home Cook. People eat sausages every week, apparently. I mean, we bloody love a good bangers and mash, toad in the hole, sausage casserole, etc. We have them a couple of times a month at most. But every week?
This has caused much debate here (mainly from our youngest who would eat them every day if he could). Are we missing out on our weekly sausage fix?
YABU - occasional treat
YANBU - weekly banger-fest

Occasional treat, mostly because I have sausages from my local butchers. They're thick, juicy and full of the proper stuff (no gristle) so slightly more expensive. Bloody love 'em so enjoy them more when I have them now and again.

Sausages is one of the only things my toddler DS will eat so he has them weekly unfortunately.

SnorkMaiden81 · 31/01/2020 18:41

I'm having them once or twice a week at the moment as I'm doing Keto (and honestly they're easy/lazy) but usually once or twice a month tops.

Sonichu · 31/01/2020 18:41

I don't particularly like sausages tbh so don't eat them that often.

Dreamersandwishers · 31/01/2020 18:42

Well sensible me says occasional treat - health etc ; but if they had no consequences I would happily eat at least once a week - with ash, in a bap, in a casserole, crumbled on a spaghetti sauce, or occasionally I have been known to scoff them cold after cooking for the dogs☺️

Dreamersandwishers · 31/01/2020 18:43

With mash not ash !

AhoyMrBeaver · 31/01/2020 18:43

I eat Linda McCartney sausages once a week for breakfast.

Retroflex · 31/01/2020 18:44

I generally only buy sausages to put in my dehydrator and make treats for my dogs...

Occasionally my husband will make sausage with onion and gravy with creamy mashed potatoes, but that's usually because he can't be bothered cooking and I'm not fit to... He's a lazy bugger at times, but I love him...

SquigglePigs · 31/01/2020 18:45

Weekly for me (I like them for breakfast) but less for DH and DD. It's on my radar that I should reduce the number I eat but I'm awful at eating breakfast so at the moment me eating is more important than exactly what I eat.

Mistletorpor · 31/01/2020 18:45

@Dreamersandwishers I thought that was a Heston-style taste sensation we were missing out on 😂

Brainfogmcfogface · 31/01/2020 18:47

Weekly here, had em tonight but wish I’d checked the school menu as DD also has them for lunch 😬

roses2 · 31/01/2020 18:56

We have them 1-2 times per month. The kids love sausages but I don't buy them weekly as they contain far too much salt.

DailyKegelReminder · 31/01/2020 18:58

Weekly here.

greenlynx · 31/01/2020 19:13

We ate traditional pork sausages very occasionally, maybe a few times per year. I’ve recently discovered very nice chicken and caramelised onion sausages from M&S, so I’m planning to have them more often - but no more than once a month. For me it’s about salt, fat and the fact that it’s processed food.

Greenpolkadot · 31/01/2020 19:35

I love a proper sausage. Grasmere Farm make some gorgeous ones with garlic. I love pork and apple. Pork and leek. I make a mean sausage platt and scrumptious scotch eggs. Long live the sausage!!

Dreamersandwishers · 31/01/2020 19:36

@Mistletorpor 🤣🤣🤣

Ludways · 31/01/2020 19:40

I don't remember the last time I bought sausages. Definitely wouldn't consider them a treat.

2020runner · 31/01/2020 19:43

Weekly here, usually sausage casserole or sausage and mash and my daughters will have a chipolata (that spelling looks wrong?) With breakfast once or twice a week.

teenagetantrums · 31/01/2020 19:45

I have no idea. Sometimes l have them twice a week sometimes not. Is not something l have ever worried about to be honest. If l want a sausage l will have one.

CherryPavlova · 31/01/2020 19:46

We make our own from our own half pig. It means we know what isin them, so about once a fortnight, maybe.

EstebanTheMagnificent · 31/01/2020 19:47

Weekly, but I tend to buy the Heck chicken ones as I try to limit the amount of processed pork that we eat.

QueenofallIsee · 31/01/2020 19:47

We have a friend that raises his own pigs and produces sausages - they are immense and we have them once a month or so I guess

Mintjulia · 31/01/2020 19:48

Our butcher makes his own. Normally six varieties. I do the venison ones in red wine with veggies. Requires no skill which is good because I am a rubbish cook. Smile

HumansAreConsumable · 31/01/2020 19:48

@CherryPavlova what's a half pig?

Floralnomad · 31/01/2020 19:50

We probably have sausages about twice a year , dh is not keen , and when we do have them they are generally pork and leek or caramelised onions
