Sausages

Catching up on Best Home Cook. People eat sausages every week, apparently. I mean, we bloody love a good bangers and mash, toad in the hole, sausage casserole, etc. We have them a couple of times a month at most. But every week?
This has caused much debate here (mainly from our youngest who would eat them every day if he could). Are we missing out on our weekly sausage fix?
YABU - occasional treat
YANBU - weekly banger-fest

Once a week here, in a variety of different forms:

  • Sausage and bean casserole
  • Shredded sausage fusilli with chilli and fennel
  • Marmalade sausages and sweet potato
  • Sausage and potato pie
  • Sausage and apple pastry
  • Honey mustard sausages

We do also have bangers and mash sometimes but sausages can be so much more than that!

Halloweenbabyy · 31/01/2020 19:52

Has the Richmond vegan sausages tonight. Veggie sausages are a bit hit and miss so not very often.

Oysterbabe · 31/01/2020 19:56

We have either normal sausages or chorizo once a week.

dottiedodah · 31/01/2020 20:00

Im not that keen on them TBH .Usually once in a couple of weeks ,Cheap and easy !

RhymingRabbit3 · 31/01/2020 20:01

Once a week in the summer when we BBQ regularly. Definitely less often in the winter.

FreeButtonBee · 31/01/2020 20:03

Not sure there is much difference between a few times a month and once a week 🤨

I have them probably once a week; but in peaks and troughs. Haven’t had them in awhile. Will have lots this week and next.

Also what about chorizo or or mergeuz? Much more interesting. But still sausages!

comingupafterthebreak · 31/01/2020 20:03

I've had sausages two days running Blush

Verily1 · 31/01/2020 20:06

I see them as a breakfast food.

Atthebottomofthegarden · 31/01/2020 20:06

Not every week, but maybe 2 out of 3. Made a sausage plait tonight, it was very nice. It is something everyone in the family will eat without complaint, and there is a lot to be said for that!

ChopOrNot · 31/01/2020 20:06

There are too many other tasty things to cook/eat to be restricted to sausages once a week. But once a month/6 weeks maybe. Hugh Furry-Milkingstools recipe with onions and parsnips is delicious www.lovefood.com/recipes/59849/sausage-parsnip-and-onion-roast-recipe

Straycatstrut · 31/01/2020 20:08

Veggie and they are lush in a casserole or in a bread bun with salt & barbecue sauce. Really nice barbecued too.

Don't like them on their own or with mash.

Before I was veggie (young teen) I never liked the regular pork ones.

Straycatstrut · 31/01/2020 20:08

& Quorn ones I mean.

BarkandCheese · 31/01/2020 20:10

We have them probably once a fortnight. I like sausages but would rather have them less often, however DD is fairly fussy and they’re something she’ll reliably eat.

ItFigures · 31/01/2020 20:12

Don’t get me wrong we love a sausage here but it’s an occasional treat. They aren’t the healthiest of meats. We have a lovely butchers near us and they have so many different varieties very tasty but definitely just a treat.

CherryPavlova · 31/01/2020 20:18

Half pig is our share of a whole pig. Village co-operative for pig rearing.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 31/01/2020 20:18

Probably about once a week here, but we alternate between meat sausages, including chorizo, and Linda McCartney ones. Typical meals:

Sausages, mash, and peas
Sausage casserole (only ever do this with meat sausages)
Sausage, bacon, potato waffles, beans, poached egg
Sausages, chips, and beans, if very lazy
Chorizo and red pepper pasta
Chorizo and broccoli pasta bake

ragged · 31/01/2020 20:18

Only once a week? Totally U.

Mistletorpor · 31/01/2020 20:21

So around 50/50. We’ll stick with occasional treat bangers (not including Linda McCartney sausages), but interesting so many have then every week!

A pig farmer told me sausages are mainly made of lungs. No ta!

Lulu1919 · 31/01/2020 20:21

We have them once a month ish
Chicken ones
Good quality ...but only from supermarket

Oysterbabe · 31/01/2020 20:27

They're very versatile and there's lots of different kinds. I don't think once a week is ridiculous.

Inforthelonghaul · 31/01/2020 20:27

At least once a week here because we have a fab local pork butcher and their sausages are amazing.

SalmonFajitas · 31/01/2020 20:43

I love sausages but don't have them every week as they're full of processed pork and the chicken ones are still full of saturated fat.

EstebanTheMagnificent · 31/01/2020 20:57

Not really, @salmonfajitas.

Artisan sausage smallholders only kill half a pig at a time.
