But don't forget all the extra money going to the NHS, because it said so on the side of that bus

BlueWonder · 31/01/2020 20:42

I don't use Twitter lurker. There's a lot of data out there. How on earth did your 'critical thinking' lead to to the decision that this is a good thing for the UK? Based on the Leavers who have managed to come up with a reason for their vote, nothing I've heard or read is actually connected to the EU.

But like I said, party on down and let's see where you are when you sober up.

peanutbutterandbanana · 31/01/2020 20:42

The happy brexiters on this thread have suddenly gone amazingly quiet. It's incredible what a few facts do to Brexit wankery talk.

Cinammoncake · 31/01/2020 20:43

I think it's deluded to think any country would look at Britain tonight and be thinking 'I want a piece of that action'

ilovesooty · 31/01/2020 20:46

The manager of the hotel I stay in in Malta asked me last year why the British had taken leave of their senses.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 31/01/2020 20:51

That is more down to the hard left labour, nothing to do with brexit. The real hard left have always been anti eu, the antisemitism has always been a thing on the hard left, it isn't related to brexit, it has surfaced because of Corbyn, even though Corbyn was a lexiteer the 2 scenarios are not combined. The blame of your situation goes to momentum et al.

I agree with that.

LilyJade · 31/01/2020 20:51

There are many reasons I'm not celebrating today!

One thing the US will demand is the right to supply drugs to the NHS. So whereas now we might buy drug A from the EU at a cost of £2 we will now have to buy it from the USA at a cost of £100.

Drug prices in America have soared since price protections were removed in the 1990s. Studies have found that popular medicines are three times more expensive in the US than the UK. For individual drugs the differences can be vast.

What is more, the US wants to introduce their own Trade Tribunals, with the right to sue the UK if they refuse to conform to US rules. The Brexiters have been protesting about the ECJ, but at least this had properly appointed judges and a legal framework. These US kangaroo courts are run by big corporations for the benefit of big corporations, with no democratic accountability at all.

Farage was reported to be livid that his Far Right fascist chums in Poland and Hungary and France have stopped fighting for their own exits as they watched the UK pack up and leave the EU Parliament. They immediately saw that it is much better to stay and fight for reform from within. We have now lost our voice on the world stage. And once our United Kingdom breaks up, which it will do, we will become less and less relevant. What a celebration!

peanutbutterandbanana · 31/01/2020 20:57

And, incidentally farage4PM, Farage will never be PM - he deliberately does not choose roles where he needs to be accountable. He is going to scarper to the US, so much is his love for the UK, to help Populism and Nationalism (Hitler's tools) grow there under Trump. You watch. Your vote means nothing to him, except a means to an end, the end being 'what is best for Nigel'. Oh and incidentally, he's got himself a German passport, via his marriage to a German woman (whom he's now left), so that he can retain his own Freedom of Movement (the thing you've taken away from all of us). You've been well and truly taken for a ride. Enjoy the party.

peanutbutterandbanana · 31/01/2020 20:58

OP has gone very quiet. Funny that.

MissGuernsey · 31/01/2020 20:59

Fantastic post, peanutbutterandbanana. Will all the MNetters who voted to leave be celebrating when they have to return to work six weeks after having a baby, like they do in the US?

I doubt this would happen. I would welcome it though. Too many mums take the piss having one maternity leave after another. Coming back from leave pregnant and then off again! I worked in an office where a woman had three babies in succession. Must have been off for the best part of four years! Oh but mumsnetters just shrug and say that is her right!

ContinuityError · 31/01/2020 21:00

Oh, and Farage's personal company accounts are due next month.

That be will interesting. Given how much he trousered last time.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 31/01/2020 21:03

MaxNormal that notice is bloody vile. I'm shocked. I know I shouldn't be because I've known these attitudes exist, but to see actual proof is awful. I feel deeply saddened that people like that exist.

PhilSwagielka · 31/01/2020 21:07

@Justanotherlurker Both the right and the left have a major problem with anti-Semitism and neither side will admit it. Huge generalisation, but the left call out right-wing anti-Semitism but ignore it when it comes from Muslims or socialists, and the right call out left-wing anti-Semitism but ignore it when it comes from Christians or conservatives. I've had plenty of shit off both right-wingers and left-wingers.

And honestly, given that there are actual neo-Nazis celebrating Brexit - the NF, C18 and the like - I think @ScarlettBlaize is right to be worried. Just because the far right hate Muslims and black people more doesn't mean they've suddenly decided to like Jews. And we get blamed for bloody everything, like all the Soros conspiracy shit. We already get blamed for immigration. I could quite happily post stuff about us from neo-Nazi Telegram chats if you don't believe me.

Mordred · 31/01/2020 21:10

" Must have been off for the best part of four years! Oh but mumsnetters just shrug and say that is her right!"

Which it is. Her giving birth to the next generation and all. The ones who'll be working and paying into the system when you're an old pension-drawing biddy.

MaxNormal · 31/01/2020 21:10

@MissGuernsey would you have them stagger back to work bleeding?

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 31/01/2020 21:11

MissGuernsey that would not be beneficial for the mother or baby. Breastfeeding rates would decline massively and they are poor to start with. We are not machines that pop out babies then carry on as though nothing has changed. Motherhood needs to be valued more, especially in the first few years of life. And women need time to recover. You don't know the circumstances of that woman getting pregnant three times in quick succession and it's none of your business anyway. It's up to your employer to cover her maternity leave and ensure there's no negative impact on the company. What difference does it make to you whether she takes three lots of maternity leave over 8 years say, or takes them in quick succession?

PhilSwagielka · 31/01/2020 21:12

@MaxNormal I actually do speak Welsh, I'm learning it atm.

MaxNormal · 31/01/2020 21:15

PhilSwagielka that's awesome, is it difficult to learn?

Mordred · 31/01/2020 21:17

"Motherhood needs to be valued more, especially in the first few years of life. And women need time to recover"

Abso-bloody-lutely!

MaxNormal · 31/01/2020 21:19

This footage from Parliament Square is quite chilling. Brexit supporters burning flags.

www.lbcnews.co.uk/politics/brexit/brexit-supporter-burns-eu-flag-parliament-square/

yolofish · 31/01/2020 21:21

Burning flags, FFS! Are we in Iran?

nonsensicalmess · 31/01/2020 21:26

@peanutbutterandbanana - most sense I've read on the internet in quite a while! I'm impressed at how well you articulate the words I can't find.

Justanotherlurker · 31/01/2020 21:26

But don't forget all the extra money going to the NHS, because it said so on the side of that bus

Imagine pretending you are on the side of the critical thinking and still bring up this tired meme.

What this situation has proven without doubt, is that the 'thick' easily led types is apparent on both sides of the situation.
