To ask those in favour of Scottish Independence to join together to renew our hopes for the future

At 23:00 on the 31st January, Scotland will be dragged out of the EU against our will.

Scotland did not vote for this. Scotland does not want this.

Now we're told by Boris Johnson that our voices will be silenced. Apparently, Scotland must remain in the UK, and the right to express our will to be independent will not be 'allowed'.

On Wednesday we saw the Brexit Party wave union flags, and embarrass the whole of these islands. I don't want to be a part of it.

So now, we will no longer be a part of the EU, and we're told we should shut up and get on with it. I won't.

It will be a truly depressing moment for me to see Scotland dragged out of the EU.

But I hope with this, we can all come together in Scotland and have a renewed focus on campaigning for independence, and ultimately righting a wrong.

Why would anyone want to be governed by the SNP? They are lying, corrupt pieces of shit. Look at what was projected onto the EU building. All fake, they did it with taxpayers money, I might add. They are lying and manipulating the Scottish people. It’s about time everyone woke up to it.

TheSandman · 02/02/2020 22:50

Why would anyone want to be governed by the Tories? Lying, mendacious, self-serving arrogant c*nts to a man.

Gosh! isn't informed political debate fun?

NameChangeNugget · 02/02/2020 22:57

I hope Scotland gets its independence

Redglitter · 03/02/2020 04:44

I hope Scotland gets its independence

I sincerely hope to God we dont

RasberryRoyale · 03/02/2020 08:18

I second that. Independence is suicide for Scotland.
The EU building projection I’m shocked there hasn’t been a bigger kick up over. Manipulating as usual. Still anything to distract from the real issues and no doubt a certain court case approaching.

AlmostAlwyn · 03/02/2020 10:02

Why would anyone want to be governed by the SNP?

I would expect them to split into several smaller parties once their main reason for being has been achieved.

What was "fake" about the projection on the EU building? And what did the SNP have to do with it?

TheSandman · 03/02/2020 10:27

I would expect them to split into several smaller parties once their main reason for being has been achieved.

Me too. And I'm a member.

Independence is suicide for Scotland.

Why?

When... (nothing like a bit of positive thinking in the morning) ... when we rejoin the EU Scotland would be larger, in population terms, than 10 existing states with the group. Bigger than Slovakia, Croatia, Ireland, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovinia, Estonia, Cyprus, Malta, Luxembourg. I haven't noticed that any of those countries has died recently.

Hell, in population terms the city of Glasgow alone is bigger than the whole of Luxembourg. Are you such a proud Scot that you think this nation is less than capable of holding its own again the mighty world powers of the likes of Estonia and Malta? 'Scotland the Brave' my arse.

The "too wee too poor" argument just doesn't cut the ice any more.

RasberryRoyale · 03/02/2020 11:28

Because as part of the U.K. Scotland’s deficit is 7.2 % which is 7 times the U.K. deficit. To join the EU it’s my understanding that we have to have a deficit of under 3% to join the EU, currently they would tell us to jog on.

Meanwhile they are wasting tax payers money on stupid building illuminations and beach drawings trying to convince people that the EU want us to stay and they are going to miss us.

Sources please.

cologne4711 · 03/02/2020 11:52

Had I been eligible to vote in the Scottish Indyref I would have voted for independence. But that's just because I feel that more big decisions should be taken in the regions. The needs of people in London are not the same as those in, say, Cornwall or the North East

You see I am the opposite, I am a centralist and don't like postcode lotteries. But I think I am in the minority and accept that a federal structure for the UK would resolve a lot of difficulties (although not the facts that we've left the EU and Faslane).

Newmetoday · 03/02/2020 12:08

almostalwyn

They said it was the EU who projected it to give them hope if they get independence but the SNP paid someone to do it. It’s a disgrace and it’s manipulating.

FizzyIce · 03/02/2020 12:12

A lot of us didn’t vote for it either but we’re all in it for the long haul.
Suck it up

This charming note was put up in a block of flats in England (note their own cringeworthy sentence construction, spelling and punctuation). Moronic.

@TheSandman

This is one of many articles on the topic:

StoneofDestiny · 03/02/2020 12:38

This is on Portobello Beach - organised by the SNP. Sending love to Europe.

Didn’t hear too much on an outcry about Boris’ bus with his proven lies being driven round before an election - a real disgrace and manipulation.
Sending a love to Europe message was neither a disgrace or a manipulation of anybody.
Some hotels in Europe have lowered the Union Flag and raised the Scottish Saltire in response 😀

Naw - those of us living in England may have to. Those seeking an Independent Scotland don’t have to.

StoneofDestiny · 03/02/2020 12:41

Aye, right 😂😂

TheSandman · 03/02/2020 13:18

@RasberryRoyale That's not a source. That's a newspaper article quoting another newspaper article - neither paper being exactly impartial in the Independence question.

RasberryRoyale · 03/02/2020 13:20

So if it was the National reporting that the SNP have covered up their figures is that a source?

AlmostAlwyn · 03/02/2020 13:23

@RasberryRoyale Because as part of the U.K. Scotland’s deficit is 7.2 % which is 7 times the U.K. deficit. To join the EU it’s my understanding that we have to have a deficit of under 3% to join the EU, currently they would tell us to jog on

Actually, your understanding is incorrect. The government deficit of 3% is a criterion for joining the Euro Zone, not the EU. Scotland would be under no pressure to join the euro, as is the case for one third of EU members.

Additionally, Scotland’s deficit is in no way clear. It's difficult to see where some taxes are paid (goods could be produced in Scotland and exported from England for example) so dividing them according to Scotland/rest of the UK is not clear cut.

The financial state of a future independent Scotland would also depend on the deal negotiated, what portion of debt Scotland agrees to take on (it is not legally liable for any UK debt), assets, and so on.

Blarblarblar · 03/02/2020 13:32

Whisky, oil and tourism won't do it.

This is so so the problem. We are not some back water with nothing to offer. Scotland’s exports and industries are growing. Our digital& creative industries are expanding. You scoff are tourism but we out performed the rest of the U.K. for the 6th year running. We have 4 of the top performing universities in the world. We are investing in renewable energies and have been since before it was a crisis. 68% of our electricity is from renewable sources and we export it to the rest of the U.K. to the tune of about 5bn. We have ALL the water. England benefits from this during drought. It goes on and on. Yes the SNP isn’t perfect but there isn’t a decent left wing party to support if not them. Labour have fucked themselves.
As a whole I think Scotland is more socialist. I do not give a FUCK if I have to pay more tax, because I know that those earning less than me won’t have to and will be supported. I’m not wealthy but I want everyone to have respect and support and just a bit of kindness.
I do not have any hate for English people. I do not feel British though. I’m tired of the country I live in being derided and lied about. We are fine. I want an inclusive and fair society and I think this is the way.

TheSandman · 03/02/2020 13:37

So if it was the National reporting that the SNP have covered up their figures is that a source?

No it wouldn't. It would be a partial newspaper putting its biased spin on the figures. What was your point?

Economics aside. One of the reasons I fully support the SNP is that it is the only party with any real power (sorry Greens) that has consistently, and unwaveringly held to the view that nuclear weapons are an abomination and should be scrapped.

End of.

How anyone could vote for someone who would consider killing millions of civilians for ANY reason is beyond me. (And obviously beyond the voters of Jo Swinton's constituency. )

TheSandman · 03/02/2020 13:38

sorry, 'Swinson'
