We spend £400 on our weekly shop, granted we have a family of seven, shop at Ocado and try to stick to organic fruit/veg/meat but still it seems ridiculous!

How many people in your family, where do you shop and how much do you spend?!

£400 a week? £1600 a month??

Newbie1999 · 30/01/2020 12:43

Wow!

We use Ocado and Gousto, it totals at about £130 a week (family of 4).

Newbie1999 · 30/01/2020 12:43

Actually probably averages over the month at about £120.

punknarwhal · 30/01/2020 12:44

£400 ? We spend about £60.

Ellatreetop · 30/01/2020 12:46

But how many people are there in your families?

Newbie1999 · 30/01/2020 12:47

Me, husband, and 2 young children.

sandybanana · 30/01/2020 12:48

We spend £200 at least

Family of course

Chickenitalia · 30/01/2020 12:48

2 adults, 2 kids (about half portions to adults), my Ocado shop is about £90 weekly. I’m yet to be convinced that organic is worth it, but other than that your bill does seem high! Do you plan meals or have to cook a lot separately for all the different people? If you want to cut it I’m sure there’s options 😁

sandybanana · 30/01/2020 12:48

Sorry family of four, not course and that's weekly

BrexitBingoGenerator · 30/01/2020 12:49

Good grief! That’s a lot but it sounds like you are buying the best quality stuff so it’s probs not surprising. Do you waste much of it or are your cupboards bare by day 7?
We probs spend 110 if we go to Sainsbury’s or about 75 if we do Aldi. If I could afford to buy the best of everything then I would though.

CripsSandwiches · 30/01/2020 12:50

Yes that sounds a lot - can you break down what you're spending it on? e.g How much on meat? Wine? etc.

user142745271 · 30/01/2020 12:52

So what is being eaten each day?

chellochello · 30/01/2020 13:00

Between £100 & £150 a week for family 5 - this includes cleaning products and toiletries and nappies too

forrandomposts · 30/01/2020 13:02

We spend £400 on our weekly shop

No you don't. Not really - not on a sensible shop anyway. The average for a family of 7 is £165, so you're going very wrong.

MrsWooster · 30/01/2020 13:03

£100 pw, family of 4, youngest nearly 7. Ocado -good stuff but not all organic.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 30/01/2020 13:06

I grew up in a 7 person household - at the most expensive time there were two adults, 2 teenage boys, a teenage girl and 2 under 10.

The shopping was never more than £180.

You're being ridiculous.

Urkiddingright · 30/01/2020 13:07

From Ocado it’s understandable, it’s the most expensive supermarket (alongside Waitrose and M&S obviously).

If you shopped at Aldi you’d probably spend a quarter of that.

ItIsAllChange · 30/01/2020 13:08

We are about £150-200 per week for family of five (plus pets). We use Ocado and tend to buy other household stuff we could get from the supermarket from Amazon at times as well.

Grembolina · 30/01/2020 13:08

I would need to see a summary for that.

do you have formula fed triplets in nappies, then spending a fortune on wine to relax from the stress?

Purplelion · 30/01/2020 13:11

I shopped this morning and spent £80 at Sainsbury’s for a family of 5 and a cat.
That includes nappies and formula, shower gel, a dress for the toddler and moisturiser!

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 30/01/2020 13:13

DH & I plus DS13 (who eats three times as much as me!) and I spend £90ish a week.

Rikalaily · 30/01/2020 13:13

Family of 8. Spend between £110- £130 a week in Aldi. Around £15 in Iceland and maybe £10 on top up shop, but not always.

That includes all cleaning products, nappies & wipes. Hubby does a Tesco shop once a month for DF milk and treats for me & Ds2 and spends about £50 on that.

cjt110 · 30/01/2020 13:15

We spend £150 on 2 main shops a month. 2 adults with a 5 year old. With maybe £50 or thereabouts on top ups for milk, bread etc in a month. £1,600 seems extortionate for double the people.

potter5 · 30/01/2020 13:17

Two of us. Normally spend £100 pw at Tesco. Could shop around but really don't have time as work 12 hour days. (2 dogs btw)
