to find it impossible to forgive Brexiters

mrsmootoo · 29/01/2020 16:53

Can't forgive Brexiters for voting Leave. Find it impossible to move on from this. If there are any positives about leaving EU (?!) they are far outweighed by Remaining. Brexit posts on social media are so aggressive and unpleasant - you lost get over it. Really concerned about my kids' prospects, not being able to travel/work abroad as easily etc.

@LaurieMarlow

“Educated” in my opinion, doesn’t mean more clever, like how I think you were trying to frame it as

Did I say that? No I didn’t

No you didn’t. But things aren’t often about what you say and are more than what you’re hinting towards... because if you didn’t want to say that, specifically, then what was your reason in bringing the education issue up in this long argued thread (and debate in general)?

SpecLosers · 31/01/2020 00:16

July 1st is five months away. Think about that. UK has to either ask for extension or fk it go for WTO by then.

Five months. Best of luck. Glad I could get out of the Gulag when I could. But UK gave me a great living, and I gave a lot back too! Not worth it anymore, too insecure for people like me.

Sayonara. Will watch from the sidelines in the EU. But then again it might all work out who knows, I am not being totally despondent. But getting out when I could was the best decision for me. Sorry for those who cannot do this, and might want to.

DustinTheresAHoleInYourSuit · 31/01/2020 00:23

And I struggled to understand why so many leavers simply cannot accept that, although leave may have won, everyone else is still allowed to think leaving is a really, really crap idea.

Some people really seem to think that when you win, everyone else should shut up and agree that what's happening is a good idea, and not only that, but that they also should agree that you chose it for sound reasons. And if they refuse to agree that you did it for good reasons and actually it's a pretty good idea, then they're being anti-democratic and not accepting that you won.

Clearly, leave won - but until I see some convincing arguments otherwise, I reserve the right to keep thinking it's a terrible idea mostly voted for for completely inadequate reasons.

ineedaholidaynow · 31/01/2020 00:28

Thing is we still don’t really know what Leave means and what sort of trade deals etc we will get. And I am assuming people who voted leave had different ideas of what it meant, so I guess it is possible that when we finally sort out all the various issues that some Leave voters won’t actually get what they voted for.

Cornishclio · 31/01/2020 00:33

I voted remain and yes I think it will be a mistake. Nothing I can do but I look at anyone who voted leave and think they are people who share different values to me. It is democracy though so we have no choice but to accept it. Only time will tell who was right.

SpecLosers · 31/01/2020 00:36

Mainstream reportage and analysis has been shut down now re Brexit. Reminds me of other Totalitarian regimes. Beware now!

Miljea · 31/01/2020 00:41

Ok, Leavers. Where's that bridge you're building? Reaching out to Remainers?

MarySidney · 31/01/2020 00:54

Thing is we still don’t really know what Leave means

Do you know what Remain would mean? Do you know what the EU will look like in five - ten - twenty - fifty years time?

ineedaholidaynow · 31/01/2020 00:56

But most people who say they voted Leave say they know what they voted for. But what exactly did they vote for and will they get what they voted for?

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 31/01/2020 01:04

@Miljea

Ok, Leavers. Where's that bridge you're building? Reaching out to Remainers?

But earlier in this thread you posted:

I work in coal face NHS. Leafy Hampshire.

Don't any of you Tory voting Leavers dare look imploringly at me when the HCP attending you is so heavily accented that I struggle to understand them, let alone you

Don't gasp as I exit the room as I don't want to stand in court beside them. Not my circus.

Do you not have a bridge to stand on? I’m not calling you a troll but trolls generally stay under bridges themselves. Are you not standing on a bridge reaching to leavers too? If not, then... ok Wink We know where you stand Smile

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 31/01/2020 01:06

@MarySidney
Do you know what Remain would mean? Do you know what the EU will look like in five - ten - twenty - fifty years time?

I’ve asked this already. The person chose not to answer even though I specifically tagged them, and has since been involved in the thread since the tag, so I guess they don’t want to answer it for convenience.

MarySidney · 31/01/2020 01:09

But most people who say they voted Leave say they know what they voted for. But what exactly did they vote for and will they get what they voted for?

I will get what I voted for at 11 pm this evening. Out of the EU. Now I'll ask again. What did Remainers vote for? What do they expect the EU to look like ten or twenty or fifty years from now?

Peregrina · 31/01/2020 01:15

Leavers - 17 million fuck offs
Remainers- Ode to Joy

Since Leavers are now not expecting to see the benefits for 50 - 100 years, I feel pretty confident in saying that Beethoven's music will still be played and enjoyed in 100 years time and the 17 million fuck offs will be seen as a complete embarrassment before this Parliament is done.

mummmy2017 · 31/01/2020 01:18

Good song though
Lyrics are true.

Miljea · 31/01/2020 01:24

mary I can answer that one, the 'what did Remainers think or want the EU to be like in 10-15 years?'

We wanted what we had. A dynamic, responsive, legally and economically bound together group in the service of all its citizens.

It would always ebb and flow; it would not have been without controversy. Mistakes will be made.

We expected it to keep war from our doors. We expected it to stand up to bullying from other big powers, like Russia, China, the USA.

We recognised that it came with sacrifices. Because successful partnerships are not just me, me, me.

We wanted the international cooperation that membership of such a powerful block facilitated. We wanted our best minds to be able to cooperate with other great minds, including those from outside the block (via international cooperation with big, well funded research and scientific EU foundations).

We wanted what we had.

Yes, it's not perfect. But we could reform it as a 'punching-above-its-weight member'. But nope. We've taken our football and gone home.

The one, tiny comfort I take is that our departure may reform some of the sillies of the EU. One we will beg to rejoin.

But with the clout of Romania.

mummmy2017 · 31/01/2020 01:39

I don't think.we will be to rejoin.
It's been proved as people grow older their views are more towards Brexit.
So as the pensioners are out numbering the young, the vote will never happen.

Peregrina · 31/01/2020 01:40

Anyone who thinks Boris is wonderful obviously doesn't mind being led by an amoral liar.

Can you name one PM that wasn't?

I don't think Theresa May was. Unimaginative and promoted beyond her ability, but I doubt whether she was ever sacked from a job, (apart from PM!) and not for lying. I am quite sure she valued her marriage and wasn't a serial adulterer like Boris Johnson.

There, you don't have to go far back to find an example.

Oulu · 31/01/2020 01:45

It's been proved as people grow older their views are more towards Brexit.

No, it hasn't. I don't know anyone over the age of 60 who supports Brexit, and I know a lot of people in that category.

Cattenberg · 31/01/2020 01:48

The one, tiny comfort I take is that our departure may reform some of the sillies of the EU. One we will beg to rejoin.

But with the clout of Romania.

Hey, don’t knock Romania! Their passport is about to become more desirable than ours.

MarySidney · 31/01/2020 02:04

Yes, it's not perfect. But we could reform it as a 'punching-above-its-weight member'.

Oh, come on. When has the EU shown the slightest interest in reforming itself, or in listening to us on any issue? Tony Blair wanted reform of the CAP. What did he get? Zilch. Cameron went off to get reforms before the referendum. What did he get? A few minuscule concessions that were barely worth the paper they were written on.

A dynamic, responsive, legally and economically bound together group in the service of all its citizens.

Like the dynamic, responsive way it's served the citizens of Greece and the other Med countries? Compare the unemployment figures, and especially youth unemployment, for Germany with those for Greece and Spain.

Have you read Varoufakis' book about the Greek crisis?

Peregrina · 31/01/2020 02:15

If you want to reform a group that you belong to, you go in with a co-operative spirit. Cameron did not do that, he went whining for special deals for the UK, yet again.

LastTrainEast · 31/01/2020 02:28

I'm going to miss this time of peace and prosperity we had in the EU. I've heard that afterwards we will have homeless people and other people who have to use something called food banks. It sounds quite terrifying.

Anxious1013 · 31/01/2020 06:22

Anyway, worried fellow remainers, it’s okay because later on today Johnson will be “hailing the dawn of a new era” 🙄😡.

BurneyFanny · 31/01/2020 06:35

only certain types of people should be allowed the vote.

An awful lot of Leavers are very comfortable with the fact that EU citizens in the UK and lots of UK citizens abroad were denied the vote. How do you reckon the vote would have gone if they'd not been excluded from the franchise?

BoneyBackJefferson · 31/01/2020 06:43

Peregrina

look at her voting record. and lying is part of the job for any politician.
