I snapped some tendons in my leg a month or so ago.. went to fracture clinic and got a massive brace and crutches, sent for mri, came back a week later brace and crutches taken off me. Physio booked.

Leg gave out 5 times over the weekend with severe pain down my calf. So I got in touch with my dr and they managed to book me back into fracture clinic in 2 weeks. In the mean time physio are happy to give me some crutches

Today the surgeons secretary has rung saying he's had a proper look at the scan and he needs in me in clinic this week ASAP.

What could he have seen ? I was in agony on Friday when I fell it's horrible

We can't answer this. But your clinic has the answer. Go in! Like, right now!

MyOtherProfile · 28/01/2020 13:13

How about going in and asking the experts? Hope it's nothing serious. Can you call back now and make an appointment?

MrsMozartMkII · 28/01/2020 13:14

Did anyone say why they'd taken the brace and crutches away?

I hope you get to see the specialist soonest.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 28/01/2020 13:15

Presume they're fitting you in today in view of the urgency and their mistake?! I would be making a very big fuss if not.

TabbyMumz · 28/01/2020 13:16

It's a fracture clinic.....so the betting is.....its a fracture?

SirTobyBelch · 28/01/2020 13:16

My first thought was compartment syndrome, but I think he'd have told you to go to A&E immediately if that were the case. He's evidently seen something on the MRI suggesting a soft-tissue consequence of the recurring injury.

BlueChangeling · 28/01/2020 13:20

Something similar happened to my sister. She fell down some stairs and hurt her foot. Was in a lot of pain so went to A&E for an X-Ray, following this the Doctor advised nothing was broke to continue trying to walk on it and the pain will pass in a few days. So she struggled on trying to walk on it.

She was still in agony a week later when the hospital rang back to advise that after a senior doctor reviewed the xrays her foot was indeed broken in three places, not to walk on it and to come back in to have a boot fitted asap.

ColdToesHere · 28/01/2020 13:21

when are you going back to see the consultant? I wonder if you were diagnosed incorrectly initially?

SirVixofVixHall · 28/01/2020 13:24

I think they have obviously missed something that needs urgent attention, perhaps you need surgery, or more physio.
When are you going in OP ?

Hidingtonothing · 28/01/2020 13:26

Two people in my family have initially been told no fracture and then called back in (one 3 days later and the other over a fortnight!) after some kind of review of their x rays to be told there were fractures after all so that would be my guess OP.

ItsLegalTender · 28/01/2020 13:33

I have to go in on Friday as he can't see me any earlier. He said last week I'd ruptured my acl and said take the brace off and get walking then I fell a lot and basically cried at my dr and they managed to get me back into fracture clinic in 2 weeks then this morning his actual secretary said 'he's seen the scan properly and needs to see you on Friday in clinic urgently'

AriadnesFilament · 28/01/2020 13:34

How can anyone here possibly answer this?!

Scarydinosaurs · 28/01/2020 13:36

Gosh- what a worry! I hope this week goes quickly for you.

slipperywhensparticus · 28/01/2020 13:36

Urgently friday? Ring back and say should I be walking on this or not?

AutumnRose1 · 28/01/2020 13:47

OP I know this is horrible

I once had an injury and got a call after cast removed and it turned out that one consultant "thought" they had seen something potentially very scary.

I would push to be told earlier. That's what I had to do. With hindsight, i should have realised that them giving an appointment wtih a bit of time meant it wasn't that scary, but they handled it very badly in terms of communications.

I phoned up crying a few times and then they told me what it was, it was flipping nothing and just asking about my pain symptoms would have cleared it up.

ItsLegalTender · 28/01/2020 13:51

Sorry I know I shouldn't be whinging to internet ransoms. I thought I had a diagnosis last Friday when he took my brace off. But obviously I'll just have to wait. It bloody hurts

OP posts:
CrotchetyQuaver · 28/01/2020 13:52

Well I guess they should have taken the boot and crutches off you and they're going to sort it all out and tell you why on Friday. My sympathies - my husband has a ruptured Achilles' tendon which he did last week, we are waiting for the orthopaedic/fracture clinic appointment

CrotchetyQuaver · 28/01/2020 13:52

Shouldn't even

ItsLegalTender · 28/01/2020 13:53

Ouch Achilles are painful! Has he got a cast on?

OP posts:
ItsLegalTender · 28/01/2020 13:57

I think I'm more frustrated that it took hours of ringing round yesterday to get anyone to take me seriously, then they booked me in for 2 weeks grudgingly then he's looked closely at my scan and now he wants me in urgently, which is frustrating as I don't have any support on my knee and it feels really unstable and crunchy

OP posts:
AutumnRose1 · 28/01/2020 13:59

OP I find that really concerning

have you been able to speak to the consultant or secretary and tell them that you feel unstable? You might need your brace and crutches back. What advice were you given about general walking around?

Keep calling and asking them. This is not on.

Bobbiepin · 28/01/2020 14:02

If you kneel on a chair with all your weight on the bad leg (leg at a 45 degree angle) and you squeeze the back of your calf, does your foot move?

ItsLegalTender · 28/01/2020 14:03

@Bobbiepin no 😳

OP posts:
ItsLegalTender · 28/01/2020 14:04

Ah fuck it I'm going to A&E, we don't have a minor injuries unit near me unless it's out of hours. I'll get a taxi and see if I end up seeing the orthopod
