AIBU?

To not feel sorry for colleague ripped off at strip club?

Bibbiditybobbidy · 26/01/2020 23:00

30 year old colleague went to a well known strip club on a stag do, and woke up the next day with £7k missing from bank acct.
He was so drunk it appears he managed to spend all that without knowing. When he complained they sent him evidence of himself ( CCTV) at the bar authorising each transaction, times receipts etc
He parents have had to lend him ££ as he’s at his over draft limit and he’s paying them back.
He’s weeping and wailing about it but I just think he’s been an arse and should learn as lesson AIBU? He’s getting lots of sympathy about the ‘injustice’ of it in the office... but he's exactly the kind of guy to show off in front of his mates playing the big man, while he’s actually a bit of a beta male...I have NO sympathy for him, the little creep!

He was drunk so he was asking for it. Only got himself to blame.

Come on guys - whether or not you agree with strip clubs - there are some that deliberately scam customers. They wait for the drunk people and then don't tell them what they are putting on their card. There is no way you would expect a beer to cost £1000.....£10 maybe. I bet when you go through the CCTV of this chap he just orders a few drinks. The business deserves to be shut down. This lad has learnt a very hard lesson. It will probably take him years and years to repay the £7000.

I agree mumdiva.

From my experiences of strip clubs it isn't just men 'exploiting' women either.. plenty of women in there paying for services.

Yes it will take him ages to pay it off. Plays a tiny violin. Can’t believe he’s whining round the office about it not something most would want to broadcast for various reason!

It must be a scam. No one spends that much on a night out. He should take them to court.

As he was obviously beyond intoxicated could it not be argued that he didn't have the full capacity of what he was doing and what he was spending.
Does the SC not also need a kick up the butt, too somewhere along the line.
As a pp says is it not illegal to serve drunk customers.

I mean it is annoying when you're taken advantage of (a local club once charged me £50 instead of £5 when I was a student and clearly drunk - I feel they should have refused to serve me.)

But, yes, strip clubs are not well known as trustworthy places. I suppose it comes down to if he thought he was authorising say £100 not £1k each time etc.

"a bucket of six beers can be £25+." .... that's not exceptional though is it?

A strip club near me has been closed while the police investigate how a "patron" who was blind drunk by all accounts managed to spend 30k in one go. Reports say he was so drunk he was throwing up and could barely stand, but somehow was capable of spending all that money using multiple cards.

I've got no sympathy for him or your colleague. A fool and his money are soon parted.

If you can't trust your ability to make decisions when drunk, drink less!!!!

Said no MNer about a drunk woman ever,

Illegal to sell booze to a drunk person? Wow, then I’ve been swindled out of at least 1k a year over the past couple of decades. Time to lawyer up!

This is what happens when Mr Dick is promoted to Head of Finance.

Actually I've seen on quite a lot of threads women being told to check their drinking habit, that they should drink less or quit altogether and if they can't handle it ,don't drink.

Don't feel sorry for this idiot at all.

The manchild that does stupid shit and blames everyone else but himself and expects others to bail him out.

He got himself that drunk. He went into the place. He was thinking with his little head.
Then mummy and daddy had to bail him out of trouble.

30s needs to grow up and take responsibility for his own actions. But he won't.

I'm sure everyone on here would agree that you can't consent to sex when blind drunk and that even if you did say yes the person having sex with you is in the wrong.

How come then that being scammed whilst blind drunk is your own fault and you deserved it, that according to some, he wasn't scanned but spent the money of his own free will?

If you think that he spent the money freely despite being blind drunk then do you think someone blind drunk can consent to sex?

Report
Straycatstrut · 27/01/2020 07:34

Well it's an insanely huge rip off - £500 for an hours dance? and they'll reel in people like him. When he was drunk the girls will have been all over him and he'll have been on a high. They'll have been very persuasive and encouraging making him feel like they were there for him. If he was so pissed off his face a consent of a 1k transaction for example isn't exactly fair. Grey area though, like when a woman consents to sex when she's drunk and doesn't remember.

The club will say he chose to drink and flash his card about so that was his choice and there's not much he can argue back.... unless maybe that he was spiked.

He knows to either not go in again, or go in without his card!

Nobody deserves to be ripped off .If he was that pissed and they were still serving him they are at fault there is a law about serving very pissed people.

Can he not look at his bank statement (probably doesn't want to phone the bank about it!) and see how it all adds up?

Report
Cam77 · 27/01/2020 07:38

@hearhooves
A person walking over to a bar and ordering XYZ and then paying for it would probably not meet the definition of blind drunk, certainly not legally. If he was swaying all over the place and had to be held up then maybe. Similarly a person in control of their body and intelligibly consenting to sex would most likely not be considered blind drunk even if they had consumed ten beers.
