AIBU?

To not feel sorry for colleague ripped off at strip club?

Bibbiditybobbidy · 26/01/2020 23:00

30 year old colleague went to a well known strip club on a stag do, and woke up the next day with £7k missing from bank acct.
He was so drunk it appears he managed to spend all that without knowing. When he complained they sent him evidence of himself ( CCTV) at the bar authorising each transaction, times receipts etc
He parents have had to lend him ££ as he’s at his over draft limit and he’s paying them back.
He’s weeping and wailing about it but I just think he’s been an arse and should learn as lesson AIBU? He’s getting lots of sympathy about the ‘injustice’ of it in the office... but he's exactly the kind of guy to show off in front of his mates playing the big man, while he’s actually a bit of a beta male...I have NO sympathy for him, the little creep!

I think your colleague is a nasty creep for going to a strip club but don't think he deserved to be ripped off like that.

I expect it would now be too late to go to the bank and report fraudulent transactions but he should definitely go to the licensing committee. I bet they get away with exploiting the punters because they are too embarrased to act, I bet the women working as dancers are also exploited.

Exposing this type of shady practice is probably the best way to get these venues shut down.

What the actual FUCK..can possibly cost £7K in a Strip Club?

Is this a serious question?

Serves him right for being a complete creep. He sees women as commodities and got ripped off. Good

He didn't expect a strip club to financially take advantage of someone's vulnerability?

No one deserves to be scammed out of 7k

He wasn't scammed, he chose to go there and he chose to spend the money. Maybe there should have been a little violin performance for him to soften the blow. Serves him right.

I agree no one deserves to be scammed like this.

No one comes out of this looking good

Not sure if he did get scammed, he just spent the money. He reminds me of the people who appear in the sadface daily mail article every year after NYE, saying they caught an uber during surge pricing and it was expensive. Err well then why did you buy it???

Technically it's illegal to serve alcohol to an intoxicated person, so any reputable and well known company would/should have cut him off way before he managed to spend £7000... It's not ringing true for me at all, sorry... Hmm

He wasn't scammed he just spent money he shouldn't have..and as for being too drunk to be served, he clearly wasn't or the CCTV would have shown as much. How many drunk people up and and down the country are still being merrily served by bar staff.

If you can't trust your ability to make decisions when drunk, drink less!!!! It's hardly rocket science. Good on the girls for separating a fool and his money.

Wasn’t this on the news the other day? If not it is an extremely similar story and the strip club in question is losing its license. Hmm

How many threads have I read on here when some poor woman gets blind drunk and does something stupid and/or is taken advantage of? The general consensus is usually to tell her not to beat herself up and not to get blind drunk again. Double standards?

Someone decided that anyone who wanted to participate in the stag do had to go to a strip joint. And I assume it's in the UK meaning not getting blind drunk was almost impossible. Surely whoever decided on the venue is more to blame?

Incidentally as a man who lived in the UK for many years I received numerous negative comments from men and women if I wasn't binge drinking. Including comments from women about my being boring and not a real man. Binge drinking is not only considered normal in the UK but it's unacceptable not to participate.

So we have a group of men getting blind drunk in a strip club. Therein lies the problem.

he’s actually a bit of a beta male

So many of the males I know who act like complete arses seem to be doing so to prove they're alpha males. As long as people classify men as being or not being alpha males that's going to continue. What the hell does beta male even mean? Someone who's not rich and/or handsome? It sounds like the female equivalent of men criticising women for not being stunningly beautiful or wonderful mothers or some other foolishness.

So he got drunk, was more than likely shouting rounds and dances to mates to fill the big ego and claims he was scammed?
Lmao, nope, no sympathy
If the club is happy to release the video footage his cant be visably smashed to a point they should have stopped serving alcohol or had to remove him.

Oh dear how embarrassing for him.

Maybe he could ask for his salary to be paid to his parents who can in turn give him a small amount that he can be trusted with per week? Grin

Juliette20 · 27/01/2020 04:44

I don't feel sorry for him, but the club shouldn't be allowed to operate in that way and scam people. If this sort of thing were investigated properly, there would be tons of other criminal behaviour going on if they scratched the surface and these places could all be shut down.

We don't know if he was scammed or just drunk and not noticing the club entering the wrong amounts on the card machine.

The beers are £25, someone enters £225 on the card machine and customer doesn't notice because it's dark and noisy. I work in a shop and people don't notice in broad daylight while doing the supermarket shop. (Not a scam, customer picks up wrong item and completes entire transaction including me saying the total more than once and the card machine clearly displaying the amount.)

I dunno how you're not openly laughing at him each time he mentions it. I would be. He's such a moron.

Maybe he should reduce his overdraft limit too since he has the restraint of a 3 year old.
