To never tell them their birth order?

I have twin boys who were born by c-section. Over the years I have seen interviews with adult twins where they set great store by their birth order. E.g saying one should know better because they are elder by 5 mins. This type of dynamic seems odd and unhelpful.

For this reason we have decided not to tell the boys their birth order. I am now starting to doubt this decision because I am not sure it is my right to keep the information from them.

They are only 6 months old so we have not told them anything yet.
I would appreciate seeing people’s opinions about this. Especially opinion from someone who has a twin.

Just tell them you were so doped up you can't remember, infact tell them you couldn't tell them apart for at least 6 months Grin

Tell them but don’t make a big thing of it.

Ginger
It’s a different civil registration system to England and Wales
In Australia they add much more details to their civil registration certificates
England and Wales registration doesn’t even include bride and grooms mothers name..jyst fathers name for example

Ginger1982 · 29/01/2020 20:56

Ok, so it's not the norm in E&W then, but clearly the norm elsewhere.

ivykaty44 · 29/01/2020 21:01

I have no idea about worldwide birth registration certificates and what is normal Information that is included - interesting, perhaps a few on MN who live in other countries could let us know.
I’ve only really dealt with E&W

My birth certificate from the seventies has my time of birth on it. So does my kids. One born in scotland one born in England.

They do now. There has been a very recent change to that

ivykaty44 · 29/01/2020 21:36

Since dec2018?

SayNoToCarrots · 29/01/2020 22:16

Dec2018 was ages ago? Yes since then.

lyralalala · 29/01/2020 22:22

@ivykaty44 Yes since then, hence saying very recently

Ginger1982 · 30/01/2020 07:41

Again, in Scotland we already do that. Both DH's and my mum's names and occupations are on my marriage certificate and that was 2014.

ivykaty44 · 30/01/2020 07:45

I just missed out on my daughters marriage certificate by 3 months 😩
Scotland seems to be more progressive that England yet again 😪
Can I come and live up there please?

lyralalala · 30/01/2020 10:23

Scottish certificates have always been much more detailed. It’s so much easier to do family tree stuff in Scotland because women’s names are always there so much easier to trace

smemorata · 30/01/2020 16:29

@ivykaty44 My children were born in Italy and I have just checked their birth certificates. The time of birth is on there!

ivykaty44 · 30/01/2020 16:45

Today 16:29 smemorata

Thanks for responding 😊

I married a twin and then had twin babies myself. I wish I hadn't told them which one was born first and I know my Mother-In-Law felt the same way.
