I have just been to visit my Aunt and Uncle, both early 80s, very quiet living couple.
They live in a culture de sac of other retired folks.
They have put up a sign on the gatepost at the end of their drive.
They proudly made it themselves.
The house is now named "Belle End"
Do I tell them?? Blush

Does older age erase former knowledge?

I'm old and only heard of it in the last few years and only because I'm on Twitter and social media. It's quite likely they don't know?

HolyForkingShirtbaIIs · 25/01/2020 17:28

If this is for real, then of course they know. Neither holy orders nor the WI preclude a sense of humour. Don't be daft.

GhostHoward · 25/01/2020 17:28

YABU! You can't tell them unless you film it and their reactions because it's amazing Grin Grin Grin

Topseyt · 25/01/2020 17:29

Ha!! Love it. Grin

Yes, I would gleefully tell them.

CherryPavlova · 25/01/2020 17:29

If it’s genuine, they definitely know.

FenellaVelour · 25/01/2020 17:30

😂😂😂

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/01/2020 17:32

So they live in a cul de sac and have appropriated the common Belle Whatever name of the road?

And he is a retired minister?

Hats off to them.

A 2 language pun AND retaining the innocence of all good double entendres.

I am totes impressed Grin

Tartyflette · 25/01/2020 17:32

But do you (and they) know what ‘cul’ in cul de sac actually means?
It’s French for arse....

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/01/2020 17:32

I once saw a house called Fookit Hall.Brilliant.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 25/01/2020 17:32

Yeah, if the street name contains Belle and their house is at the end of the Culture(love this typo) De Sac they knew exactly what they were doing and were having a bit of fun with it.

HolyForkingShirtbaIIs · 25/01/2020 17:33

Everyone thinks my mother is dead strait laced, even her husband of 30 years. Only I know the truth. Grin
People are layered.

FlamingoAndJohn · 25/01/2020 17:33

What makes you think they don't know? Does older age erase former knowledge?

I do agree that there is an assumption that older people no nothing of sex and all children we conceived whilst both parents were asleep.

That said if these people are as straight laced as you say even if they do know the word there is little chance of them using it even as a joke.

Whynosnowyet · 25/01/2020 17:33

I know a Tuksumdoin...

Plainandsimple · 25/01/2020 17:34

My nan (DF’s mum) called her house ‘Kitanus’, in her mind it was ‘Kit (her name) and us’- meaning it was her and lots of friends visiting/staying. My lovely DF nearly choked laughing when explaining to her it was more like ‘Kit’s Arse’!

fishonabicycle · 25/01/2020 17:34

I have always wanted to call a house that exact name! Brilliant!

theconstantinoplegardener · 25/01/2020 17:38

I doubt that they know, from what you've said. I wouldn't tell them. If the street is called Belle View (or whatever), Belle End fits nicely and it would be pronounced slightly differently to the colloquialism. I think the emphasis would be different.

longtimemarried · 25/01/2020 17:42

I must be the only person on here who doesn't know what it means - but then I'm old and led a very sheltered life!

DarkDarkNight · 25/01/2020 17:42

😂 amazing. It will give the Postie a laugh anyway.

HighNetGirth · 25/01/2020 17:42

I think “culture de sac” is a wonderful expression!

Youvegotafriendinme · 25/01/2020 17:44

This is the best thing I’ve heard today! Grin

Jux · 25/01/2020 17:44

They know. They're only in their 80s. The know exactly what they've done and they're enjoying people's reactions to it.

peanutfoldover · 25/01/2020 17:44

I love it!!

Hippee · 25/01/2020 17:45

Do they read the Daily Mail? If they nick as much from Mumsnet as people think, it might justify its existence for once.

AutumnRose1 · 25/01/2020 17:49

My mum wouldnt know

Tell them!

cabbageking · 25/01/2020 17:50

Leave it and let them get some mileage out of it.
