My 12 year old still loves Lego especially Star Wars and Ninjago etc. He had a large Star Wars ship for Xmas & still plays with it, reads Lego books etc.

My mother things he’s too old for it (although she hasn’t specified what she thinks he should be doing at 12)

I always thought Lego was for any age to be honest and would rather he played with Lego than spend hours on a screen....

Aibu? What should 12 year olds be doing?!

Lego is just fine. What does you Ma imagine a 12 year old should be doing? Smoking cannabis?

Some adults love Lego, there’s no age restriction.

I have tragically decided to make this my first post in years...it’s my son’s 13th birthday soon and I am beyond excited as I’ve bought him the Stranger Things Lego set which he will go nuts about. I cannot wait to see his face (and get my hands on it myself).

Your mother is mad.

For LEGO Architecture fans here's the Statue of Liberty set

To add, a lot of people feel that set is horribly designed around the face. If you google there are tutorials where you can change a few bricks and give her something resembling a face rather than the blank plate she comes with.

Your mother doesn't understand, does she?

Yesterday I was feeling sorry for myself - the internet was down, I'd just got bills from BT and the plumber, am worried whether the car will start as the battery is on its last legs, the MOT is due next week, car insurance renewal soon and in three weeks I need more extensive and expensive dental work.

I had a little cry and then went upstairs to play with my Lego. After a couple of hours building a little house I'd put those worries to one side and felt much better. I'm 65 and I hope I'll never grow out of having some fun with Lego.

I’m 55 this year and my Lego crazy sons (24 and 26) bought me a Women of NASA Lego set for Xmas and my husband bought me the Porg from Star Wars.

My 16yo DS still collects Star Wars Lego x
(I'm guessing the 1% that voted YABU is the OPs mother, perhaps?)

Never too old for Lego!! My DS10 got multiple sets for Christmas, mainly Harry Potter and Jurassic World.

She is clearly mis-informed about Lego. I bought some Lego for hubby and me and the kids are not to touch those once built! The kids also got their Lego but that’s for playing. Ours are overpriced dust catchers, lol. Bet your mom collects some random stuff. Mil has “collectible” porcelain figurines and stuff although I don’t see what’s so special about them I had nicer ones as a kid, lol. Still wouldn’t say it’s age inappropriate, at her age, because I had them as a child.

We all love Lego in our family. My 16 year old has just bought and assembled kits last week.

I buy it as gifts for even my adult children. I don't think there is an upper age for Lego.

I love Lego too and have all the assembled Lego creations stored/ displayed around our house.

If he enjoys it he enjoys it. What a mean comment! Why would she not want him to have fun?! Even adults like Lego. I find it quite relaxing putting it together. My 12yr old DS 'still' likes his cuddly toys. He collects the TY ones. Him and his sister bought me one for Christmas last year and I love it - great for a bit of self-soothe! Honestly kids can't do right for doing wrong! Screen time? Wrong! Lego? Wrong! What actually should they be doing, then? (What they enjoy!)

I'm 24 and over the moon my kids have discovered Lego this year because I love it! We've had great fun and I've even ordered myself a set.

I got my df and massive Lego F1 car for Christmas this year. Took him 12 hours to build it, it's got a little motor, working suspension and steering, pistons that move when the wheels turn etc. It's pretty fucking cool actually.

He took videos of it and all the things it does and sent them to me and his friends.

He's 61.

My sil got the beauxbatons carriage from Harry Potter. She has a PhD in chemistry and a lovely little cottage in Cornwall and is definitely a proper grown up. She's also got the hogwarts castle on her coffee table. (I've got the infinity gauntlet on mine)

I got a dinosaur (jurassic park) set.

Ds got loads too but we had to take turns to help him make his because we all love it.

Your dm is talking out of her arse.

You're only too old for old for Lego once you're too infirm to put it together!

Tell your mum that (allegedly) super cool David Beckham is an absolute whizz at building really complicated lego pieces.

Jack Nowell the England/Exeter/ Lions rugby star takes new Lego projects with him whenever he goes on tour. He is undoubtedly cool.

Lego boxes traditionally say 3-99 so you're only too old if you're 100! 😂 There are loads of kits 12+, 14+ and 16+ and its very therapeutic and creative. Tell her there are far worse things he could be doing.

It reminds me of us all being tough at school and into boys then going home to play with dolls behind closed doors.

One of my favourite sounds in the world is the Lego rattle and swish that tells me 14yo is doing something creative rather than gaming.

We're all big Lego fans in our family!! Me and DH have heaps of sets - mine are mostly Harry Potter, but recently finished Stranger Things and just this week finished Central Perk Friends set. DH has heaps of vintage 80's sets, Star Wars, Technic and cars! DS age 2 has loads of Duplo and my nephews (12 and 9), niece (7) and BIL all build and play. Lego is awesome!
