To buy hideous shoes that DD loves

?My DD is three and loves purple and sparkles. While looking for new shoes together she spotted these and she really wants them. The last ones she had were pink sparkle converse and I was fine with them but her Dad hates them and complains and makes comments any time she has them on 😡 it really annoys me. I think she should allowed to have an input and wear things she likes but he thinks she's too young and she should wear what she's told. So do you buy your kids clothes that you like or clothes that they like?

Blink and you will be buying black school shoes. Enjoy. If it irritates him that says a lot about him!

Moonshine90 · 22/01/2020 19:12

I want them for myself. Let her have them.

Goldenbear · 22/01/2020 19:23

I would have some of these comments from my DH as he thinks lots of things look, 'naff' He had an idea of our DD wearing certain things at three- corduroy dungarees and real wool cardigans, she didn't agree and wanted to wear pink and sparkle. He is very design orientated as he is an Architect so he likes a sort of nordic style look is the best way to describe it. I mean my daughter at 8 is now much more aligned with his thought process so he bought her a grey thick wool dress for Christmas and she actually likes it. Last year he bought her a dress that was pretty expensive but has stayed in the wrapper ever since as she just didn't like it, I wish he'd check with me.

I just bought myself some Next kids trainers in the sale, they go up to size 5, mine are black with silver glitter and wings on the side. Was sick of my toddler getting all the good stuff! 😂😂

harriethoyle · 22/01/2020 19:37

I am devastated that they aren't available in years 39-41 frankly Grin

AlpacaGoodnight · 22/01/2020 19:46

Adorable shoes! Perfect for a 3 year old

Shopkinsdoll · 22/01/2020 19:47

Think yourself lucky lol the only shoes my daughter would wear at three were her wellies. Sunny weather- wellies, pretty party dress-wellies. Shorts and t shirt- wellies

Lincolnfield · 22/01/2020 19:57

I’m a woman ‘of a certain age’ I.e.old! 😂😂 and I love and wear lots of sparkly trainers! I don’t like pink but blue, purple, bright fuschia and yellow have all adorned my feet at various times complete with lots of glitter. My current favourite pair are high tops with multicoloured stripes and, of course, glitter.

Tell your DH to boil his head! I’m with your daughter. Those shoes are brilliant- do they come in an adult size 6 I wonder?.......

Mrsjayy · 22/01/2020 20:13

My dd loves those gawd awful irregular choice shoes she bought a unicorn coloured pair last year with her birthday money I am sure she hugs them at night Grin

PotteryLottery · 22/01/2020 20:35

The shoes are fabulous. Let your DD enjoy being 3.

Celticrose · 22/01/2020 20:35

They are most certainly not hideous. They are just cute. My dn as a 3 year old loved pink but by the time she was 10 she had totally gone off it. I bought her a pink top which was very fashionable at the time and she wouldn't wear it. So at 3 it's purple and sparkles and in 10 years time it could be grunge goth or something altogether different.

threatmatrix · 22/01/2020 20:55

You obviously don’t understand what I meant. Giving young children all these choices isn’t really good for them. No wonder they want flat screen tv’s and iPhones by the age of seven.

Lulu49 · 22/01/2020 20:56

What is his problem?????

dellacucina · 22/01/2020 20:58

I can see them. They are actually fairly tasteful IMO - subtle colours, any illustrations are small and understated. They also seem sensible. I don't see the issue.

My 3 year old daughter is extremely picky and only seems to like shoes that are old and ratty (having started out colourful and tacky). I'd count your blessings Grin

PhilomenaChristmasPie · 22/01/2020 21:01

My DC have chosen their clothes since they were old enough to tell me. I want them to be decisive.

ims0rrydarlin · 22/01/2020 21:32

They’re lovely.

She may be 3 but it’s nice to encourage her preferences and allow her to be herself. It’ll help her in the long run regarding how she feels about herself and how her choices are valid too.

My Mother was the same with me and I’m 30 now.

GroggyLegs · 22/01/2020 21:37

Oh gosh, they're super cute.

Let her sparkle.

nicky2512 · 22/01/2020 21:48

Mrsjayy
I was coming in to say the same!! Dd (almost 18) always went for glitter and sparkles - very unlike me. She wore lelli Kelly’s etc and now loves irregular choice especially her scary looking turquoise unicorn pair! She may also hug hers!!!

Cutesbabasmummy · 22/01/2020 21:55

They are lovely. I'd get them! I've bought my sin the most hideous Marvel superheroes top fir his birthday on Saturday but I know he will love it!

Merryweather80 · 23/01/2020 00:20

Is it wrong that I want a pair?
I wish they went up to bigger sizes to fit my two. They would love them!

I’m sure she has sensible dress shoes too. I really don’t see his problem. X

Jessi1972 · 23/01/2020 02:43

I would sit dad down and say the following :-
"Here's the deal - if you really don't like the shoes then you can take her shopping to buy a new pair - oh and you have to do this for all of her clothes shopping until she either gets to 18 or kills you - whichever one comes first is fine with me but remind me again do you want cremation or burial??"

AND PLEASE TELL ME YOU CAN GET THEM IN ADULTS SIZES!!!!

MissMoogle · 23/01/2020 03:48

Are these available in an adult size 9? Asking for a friend me with annoyingly large feet

BlueWonder · 23/01/2020 04:14

Great that you have bought them -you are happy and she has been able to choose. Not sure about buying shoes without fitting though. I've always stuck with Start Rite or Clark until the age of 10 or so for all shoes and to 14 ish for school shoes. Then Vans, various skate brands or Next/Topman wherever they like. But not at 3. That can't be your DH''s issue though as has already gone for Vans?!

noneedtoberudedear · 23/01/2020 04:50

I’d wear those shoes and I’m 41Grin

squeekums · 23/01/2020 05:14

What will she want input in by the time she’s six?
DD picked her own shoes since about 3, clothes about 4
Now at 9 she chooses things like the quilt cover set she likes, or furniture in her room, or games on the Wii, what movie she wants to watch, her hair colour. The horror......
Some nights we let her choose dinner even
Clothes just have to be suitable for the weather or activity.

You can give kids a choice and still make the big calls as a parent

Should have never let her choose her footy team though, she chose wrong, my greatest parenting fail
