To buy hideous shoes that DD loves

mamamilkmachine · 21/01/2020 18:40

?My DD is three and loves purple and sparkles. While looking for new shoes together she spotted these and she really wants them. The last ones she had were pink sparkle converse and I was fine with them but her Dad hates them and complains and makes comments any time she has them on 😡 it really annoys me. I think she should allowed to have an input and wear things she likes but he thinks she's too young and she should wear what she's told. So do you buy your kids clothes that you like or clothes that they like?

Love them

Gettingmyshittogetheragain · 21/01/2020 19:35

Aw they are cute shoes!

Get them if they’ll make your daughter happy.

Ignore the misery guts.

Gettingmyshittogetheragain · 21/01/2020 19:36

Is he usually this controlling and miserable
OP?

GirlsInGreen · 21/01/2020 19:36

I love them! Tell your DH that your daughter is not a projection of his personal tastes! She's someone on her own right!

Frequency · 21/01/2020 19:37

I have bad news for your DH. It doesn't get better. It gets worse.

Remember those god awful, clompy platform trainers of the nineties? They're back in fashion. My DD16 has a black pair and a white pair. Add that to the 'monster' Irregular Choice shoes, the equally clompy Dr Martins with garish patterns all over them and the pink, glittery Vivienne Westwood's with giant gold love hearts glued to the front that her 13 year old sister owns and the only 'normal' pair of shoes in the house are my work shoes. Even DD13's school shoes are enormous, fugly, stompy things.

Bluerussian · 21/01/2020 19:37

They are lovely shoes.

Bluetrews25 · 21/01/2020 19:37

The shoes are nearly as cute as your DD, OP! Grin

WheresMyChocolate · 21/01/2020 19:39

She's got years of boring school shoes ahead of her. Let her have the sparkly ones while she can.

TheTrollFairy · 21/01/2020 19:40

My dd is 3 and she picks her own shoes (within reason). She’s the one that has to wear them not me so I get ones she likes

lowlandLucky · 21/01/2020 19:40

They are gorgeous, let her have them

Standinguptononsense · 21/01/2020 19:40

Do they do these in adult sizes?!

Beseen19 · 21/01/2020 19:42

My DS is 3 and we have arguments around his shoes because all he wants to wear is crocs because they are the easiest to put on. Even though he falls over constantly in them as he has the narrowest feet. If not them it has to be his spiderman shoes.

My DH bought him black vans too which look super cool but they are actually a night mare to match as he doesnt wear anything black.

TheVanguardSix · 21/01/2020 19:42

You're only 3 once! I love 'em!

Quartz2208 · 21/01/2020 19:44

they are perfectly normal and nice (and far more a 3 year old girl than black vans) and I dont see the issue - apart from he is controlling and odd and it would make me question getting back with him

Tombliwho · 21/01/2020 19:44

Little kids are able to control so little of their lives. I think it's worth picking your battles. Allowing the purple sparkly trainers gives her a little 'win' and really doesn't affect your DH. He needs to let it go.

mamamilkmachine · 21/01/2020 19:44

Haha you are all inspiring me, I don't know why I even let him get into my head like that. As long as they are suitable for the intended purpose she can choose her own shoes from now on Grin

My DD is three and would love those. I let her pick her own shoes, trousers tshirts etc within reason (think showing her a selection of suitable and letting her pick from it). It's helping them build their own style and confidence plus it's easier to get them dressed if they like what they have on.
I love black vans, however I know my three year old would hate them and it's about her not me. Dad sounds like a prat.

Clutterbugsmum · 21/01/2020 19:47

These are the ones my DD1 is wearing at the moment.

She is 16 years old next week. She has always had her 'own' fashion look. Grin.

undercoveraessedai · 21/01/2020 19:48

I have rainbow glitter DMs which I wear most days - also used to wear them to my old day job, in an office. I'm 33.

I say let her have them, and never let the world squash her love of glitter!

sonjadog · 21/01/2020 19:54

I love those shoes, Clutterbug. I want them too!

NotTheMrMenAgain · 21/01/2020 19:55

Those shoes are cute, my DD would have worn them at 3. What the heck is wrong with your DH? Is he a total fun-sponge in other ways? What does he want her to wear - a nice brogue?! Has he never met a 3 year old before yours? So many questions.........just can't imagine a parent denying a little kid a pair of sparkly, pretty but otherwise the sensible shoes Hmm.

Anyhow, in 8 short years you might end up with an 11 year old wanna be goth with purple and blue hair who only wants to wear black things.......So that'll be fun with your DH. Buckle up OP, it's gonna be a long, rocky road......Wine

butwhateverfor · 21/01/2020 19:56

They're very tame compared the the monstrous lurid shite my sons have insisted on over the years.

JamesBlonde1 · 21/01/2020 19:56

Aw if she likes them, get her them, imagine her face when she puts them on for the first time Smile

mamamilkmachine · 21/01/2020 19:57

I feel strangely empowered by having bought them. Thank you for helping me make the right decision to make my DD happy Grin I love to see somebody wearing what makes them happy and not bothered by what other people think. Her dad has a very different opinion and can't see why everyone doesn't just like what he does.
