To ask how Piers Morgan is still on TV

Crumpetsandjam28 · 17/01/2020 16:55

Inspired my another thread, I have to wonder how on Earth this horrible man is still on tv. He creates smear campaigns all the time - currently directed at MM. He is bolshy, misogynous, narrow minded and can't interview people without shouting or talking over them.

He is generally disliked as a presenter but more worryingly his antics in the phone hacking case - how is he allowed such a platform to shout his terrible views from? I know that katie Hopkins and the like stir up controversy and open discussions but with him it's just constant loud, annoying bigotry which very few people seem to agree with or enjoy. Does anyone actually like him?

I completely agree with you. I have no idea why anyone wants to listen to his nasty, racist bigoted opinions. I can't watch channel 3 in the mornings anymore. I cant bear it.

alifelived · 17/01/2020 17:03

Because people are allowed to have different opinions.

His opinion differs from you and the majority of mumsnet but that’s not to say other people outside this sphere don’t agree with what he says.

I know people who do agree with him on many points.

The world is bigger than mumsnet.

Crumpetsandjam28 · 17/01/2020 17:04

It's like I get that these people crop up occasionally - katie Hopkins for example with her daft opinions will make a stupid comment and it'll be debated on This Morning and people will be outraged for a day then she'll go away again for a bit.

But to have Morgan on tv daily stirring up hatred and winding people up, it doesn't seem right somehow.

And how he has the nerve to be so critical of others after some of his antics, well it's baffling...

Crumpetsandjam28 · 17/01/2020 17:06

@alifelived I wouldn't just say MN - more like the general population....Confused

A lot of the things he says are inflammatory and project the type of views society is trying to move away from. I'm genuinely confused as to how he's got a regular job on such a mainstream tv show everyday.

alifelived · 17/01/2020 17:07

I’ve got to be honest, I don’t agree with much of what he says but many people do. It’s silly to think we all hold the same opinions 🤷🏻‍♀️

PositiveVibez · 17/01/2020 17:09

Yanbu. He is an odious little turd.

PositiveVibez · 17/01/2020 17:09

He reflects the opinions of Sun newspaper readers. And there are thousands of them in this country.

ElderAve · 17/01/2020 17:11

Yes, I think that when you say very few people agree with him, it just demonstrates you have a very narrow circle of people just like you (even on line!).

If "people" really didn't like him and really didn't like his views and turned off, the TV company would soon get rid of him.

goldenorbspider · 17/01/2020 17:11

White male privilege

Crumpetsandjam28 · 17/01/2020 17:12

It's not so much having 'different opinions' it's the fact that he spouts such hateful drivel in such an aggressive and unbalanced way. He doesn't let other people speak.

CendrillonSings · 17/01/2020 17:13

You must have been really shocked at the election result...

Crumpetsandjam28 · 17/01/2020 17:13

@ElderAve I genuinely did think a lot of people have stopped watching since he began presenting but you might be right - it could just be my circle.

I find it horribly depressing that people do agree with him and find his ways of interviewing and engaging with people acceptable.

Mrsjayy · 17/01/2020 17:13

He is revolting if i catch him on GMB he just seems to be shouting at his guests then Susannah gets brave and joins in with the shouting then smugg bastard face smiles at the camera lovi g how awful he is !

Amanduh · 17/01/2020 17:15

I agree with him on everything he has to say about MM to be fair... Grin

Ledkr · 17/01/2020 17:16

I love it when a guest takes him on and gives him what for but he has the upper hand as the presenter and juts shouts over them. He reminds me of a giant bully.

FeltCarrot · 17/01/2020 17:19

I think he’s great when interviewing the NRA. Other than that, yes, he’s too shouty.

Mrsjayy · 17/01/2020 17:19

That is what he is a ginormous bully who goes on about "snowflakes" to justify his behaviour !

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 17/01/2020 17:19

Exactly crumpets. Of course everyone is allowed an opinion; it’s a democracy, not a dictatorship, but PM uses his position to deny the right of speech to people he interviews and his co presenters. He believes that what he says is right and refuses to accept a different point of view.

I cannot understand why ITV continue to employ a misogynistic, bigoted, aggressive and thoroughly unpleasant character.

Pipandmum · 17/01/2020 17:19

Since he's been on GMB viewing figures have gone up. People love him or love to hate him. It's entertainment and the viewing figures reflect this.

tobee · 17/01/2020 17:20

Because it's a ratings game, innit?

He gets loads of attention in the media, on here etc. No such thing as bad publicity so they say.

tobee · 17/01/2020 17:21

X post with Pip

AriadnesFilament · 17/01/2020 17:21

Because the ratings go up if he’s on. And that means more money for the TV networks. Simples.

Inherdefence · 17/01/2020 17:25

If viewing figures dropped and so advertising revenues decreased they’d get rid of him like a shot. He is staying in work because people are watching the show. That might be because they like him or agree with him or they might be watching in fascinated horror or it might just be because he is better than the other programmes available.

There are some people in broadcasting I cannot stand (Holly Willoughby and Steve Wright spring to mind) but obviously other people like them so they stay employed and I have to change channels or turn off.

Crumpetsandjam28 · 17/01/2020 17:26

Not looked into ratings, am really quite shocked that ratings have improved since he's been on. I know loads of people who claim to have stopped watching because they can't cope with his gob in the mornings 😂

Missyelliottsaysso · 17/01/2020 17:28

I think he is odious, however, my DM (a fully paid up member of the Labour Party back in the 70s) thinks he is amazing.
Goes to show that some people....even lovely kind people like my DM have terrible taste.
