To ask how Piers Morgan is still on TV

Inspired my another thread, I have to wonder how on Earth this horrible man is still on tv. He creates smear campaigns all the time - currently directed at MM. He is bolshy, misogynous, narrow minded and can't interview people without shouting or talking over them.

He is generally disliked as a presenter but more worryingly his antics in the phone hacking case - how is he allowed such a platform to shout his terrible views from? I know that katie Hopkins and the like stir up controversy and open discussions but with him it's just constant loud, annoying bigotry which very few people seem to agree with or enjoy. Does anyone actually like him?

I love him. I think he says what many people think but are too frightened to say.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 17/01/2020 17:32

He's a presenter on a mainstream news show. He should be neutral. Of course it's not as simple as him just having "different opinions". What a daft thing to say.

Crumpetsandjam28 · 17/01/2020 17:36

I remember one story with a mother who had billed another mum because her kids designer shoes got muddy on a play date. Yes it was ridiculous but Morgan absolutely destroyed her on live tv, called her the 'worst type of parent' and reduced her to tears. It was really horrible to watch. She obviously had no idea that was going to happen. Utter utter wanker.

@KnifeAngel good on you btw. You’ve said on here what many wouldnt 😂

Oakenbeach · 17/01/2020 17:41

He believes that what he says is right and refuses to accept a different point of view.

Similar to many ‘woke’ liberal MNers then.

Crumpetsandjam28 · 17/01/2020 17:43

@Oakenbeach but woke MNers aren't presenting mainstream tv...

OP posts:
doritosdip · 17/01/2020 17:48

He's a presenter on a mainstream news show. He should be neutral.

No such thing as neutral media.
He reflects popular opinion (Daily Mail, Sun) If he was "neutral" then the programme would be like BBC Breakfast and dull.
Personally I don't watch tv in the morning but the most successful radio personalities are also successful for having strong opinions.

Oakenbeach · 17/01/2020 17:49

@Crumpetsandjam28

People should be free to make up their mind on what they watch, and “mainstream” TV shouldn’t be controlled by some censorious liberal elite determined to force-feed the country their worldview like some kind of Soviet propaganda machine.

doritosdip · 17/01/2020 17:49

He totally agrees with MN when it comes to transwomen in sport.

doritosdip · 17/01/2020 17:50

I should rephrase that because MN doesn't have one opinion but he agrees with many MNers that transwomen shouldn't compete in women's sport.

Ofthread · 17/01/2020 17:50

It's because he has massive knickers and likes to get them twisted up in a big public hissy fit for all to see. HTH

Oakenbeach · 17/01/2020 17:50

No such thing as neutral media.

Indeed for “neutral” read “stuff I agree with and like”.

toomanyleggings · 17/01/2020 17:51

I can't stand Eamonm Holmes. I think he's worse. He's so smug. I once watched him interview a very distressed woman whose baby had died from negligence at the hospital and he was literally arguing with everything she said had happened and then cut to the next segment before she had the chance to reply.

WeeSleekitTimerousMoosey · 17/01/2020 17:54

The short answer, OP, is he's popular.

If he wasn't the ratings would plummet and he'd be dropped. You may not like him but clearly a lot of people do. I'm not a great fan myself, though I appreciate his stance on gun control, but no one is forced to watch, listen to or read what he has to say.

Plurality is a good thing.

EmmiJay · 17/01/2020 17:56

I do not like him AT ALL. When he starts whining and whinging and chucking his toys out of the pram. Gahhh! Simply put he actually is a little bitch and not the voice of the people that he thinks he is.

Cinammoncake · 17/01/2020 17:57

Because he's a white middle aged man

feelingverylazytoday · 17/01/2020 18:03

I agree with some of what Piers Morgan says, but disagree with other things.
I think it's important to have people like him on TV, people who aren't afraid to be unpopular and aren't going to backtrack if they get piled on on twitter.
In fact even Katie Hopkins has a function, because most people look at her and realise they don't want to go down that road. Same as the Westboro church in America. There's no point hiding bad stuff away, it needs to be out on the surface where people can see it.

thefourgp · 17/01/2020 18:05

I won’t watch a programme if he’s on it anymore. I watched him interview Pamela Anderson a few years ago and he was so creepy and disrespectful.

Carpathian2 · 17/01/2020 18:06

I agree with him on everything he has to say about MM to be fair

Can I ask why you agree with him?

PGtipsplease · 17/01/2020 18:08

He is the ONLY presenter on TV brave enough to tackle the Trans debate.

I also seen him demolish Tommy Robinson.

Yeah he goes overboard sometimes but sometimes he hits the nail on the head with issues that most presents wouldn’t in fear of being castrated.

Mrsjayy · 17/01/2020 20:22

Tommy Robinson is easy to demolish tbf he is quite a snivley weasly little man ! PM stance on transing kids is just common sense doesn't mean he is a decent human being

AgeShallNotWitherHer · 17/01/2020 20:35

The only vitriol, hatred and personal attacking I can see has come from you OP, (and a few who share your views).

So you don't agree. A lot of people do - or at least with some of it. They may have good reason to. You don't . And best way to express that is through more "outrage" - of course.

I don't watch him so can't comment on him

AgeShallNotWitherHer · 17/01/2020 20:38

There's no point hiding bad stuff away, it needs to be out on the surface where people can see it.

Agree feelingverybad

ForalltheSaints · 17/01/2020 20:42

People watch Top Gear
People watch Mrs Browns Boys
People watch Eastenders
People eat the so-called food from McDonalds
People listen to Little Mix and listened to Westlife

Awful all of them, but some people have different tastes, and some like hearing opinionated men such as Piers Morgan.

lightnesspixie · 17/01/2020 20:47

He cracks me up. I love him.
