To ask how Piers Morgan is still on TV

Inspired my another thread, I have to wonder how on Earth this horrible man is still on tv. He creates smear campaigns all the time - currently directed at MM. He is bolshy, misogynous, narrow minded and can't interview people without shouting or talking over them.

He is generally disliked as a presenter but more worryingly his antics in the phone hacking case - how is he allowed such a platform to shout his terrible views from? I know that katie Hopkins and the like stir up controversy and open discussions but with him it's just constant loud, annoying bigotry which very few people seem to agree with or enjoy. Does anyone actually like him?

I agree with you. He is so annoying....he was going on about how nothing racist had been said about MM ... he obviously forgot about the chimpanzee story.

He gets on my nerves.

2Rebecca · 17/01/2020 22:36

Agree Steve Wright is smugness personified

Pulpfiction1 · 17/01/2020 22:40

I don't agree with a lot of what he says, but I like hearing a voice on mainstream TV that is not woke, pc or sensored by the twitter mob.

I don't like this current culture of bland, nicenest noone dare have an opionin or say anything mean - unless it's about someone who doesn't agree with woke pc culture - then you can be over the top horrible.

TARSCOUT · 17/01/2020 22:56

I like that he is not scared to ask questions and to say it like it is. He's got backbone which is more than can be said that soooooo many presenters. I don't read.any tabloids though!

squeamishsquamish · 17/01/2020 23:09

He's amusing in an OMG way.Confused

bluebells100 · 17/01/2020 23:30

Are you his wife bluebells?
And we all don’t like him.
I’m talking about my family obviously, I don’t care care you dont. But why have you picked on me, plenty more have said they like him? Confused

MintyMabel · 18/01/2020 00:10

says it like it is

This is such a bullshit argument. The same argument Trump supporters give.

He says it how he thinks it is. How you who support him think it is. That doesn't mean what he says is factual in any way, shape or form. It is merely his opinion.

Those who think he says stuff most people are afraid to say, might want to ask themselves why people are afraid to say these things. The only reason to self censor is because of a fear that you are judged for that opinion. Why would that be, do you think?

PiafPilaf · 18/01/2020 00:18

Good Housekeeping did an interview with him and Susanna Reid a few months ago. It was truly awful to read - she hardly got a word in and he monopolised everything. When they did print her answers to questions it was all ‘well you have to give Piers what he wants or you know about it!’ He came across as being an awful man (much like he does on TV and in his own writing...). I’m still not sure if GH printed it to show this or if they were really sucking up to him.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 18/01/2020 00:20

@MGC31 yes, because they are the only shift works Confused
People can work but finish at 10 in the evening and not start until lunchtime the next day as well, you know.

bluebells100 · 18/01/2020 00:26

MintyMabel Nonsense, Because these days you have to fall in line with the majority. People are frightened to speak their minds, Brexit is the perfect example. People get attacked for having differing opinions, I admire people who stand up for their beliefs and aren’t afraid to say it. You should accept other views than your own. If people like Piers Morgan, who are you to tell them they shouldn’t. It’s pure arrogance to think your opinion is the right one.

Suchawitch · 18/01/2020 00:48

In The Friends of Voltaire, Hall wrote the phrase: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" as an illustration of Voltaire's beliefs. This quotation – which is sometimes misattributed to Voltaire himself – is often cited to describe the principle of freedom of speech.

Because reasonable people have supported this principle for 100 years and not the the current derivative I disapprove of what you say so I'll call you a racist/facist/moron and hound you out of your job/freindshipgroup/neighbourhood!

1Morewineplease · 18/01/2020 01:08

He’s confrontational and producers love it.
If everyone stopped watching that programme then the producers would find another presenter or find another show.

Smellbellina · 18/01/2020 01:14

I don’t like him but I’m glad he is there. If you shut out all the people with the views and means to call out on topics the general population is expected to never air, you end up with a whole lot of people that feel unrepresented and angry.
The fact you don’t like what he says is really irrelevant, you need to know that other people do. And wonder why

Smellbellina · 18/01/2020 01:17

The only issue I have with the Good Morning set up is Susannah

SameOldHorrorStory · 18/01/2020 01:36

I’m 50/50 on Piers.

What I will say I find especially creepy (maybe creepy is too harsh a word, perhaps more unsettling) is how he will go on a shouty, aggressive, not let the guest get a word in edgeways rant, but when the interview is over he talks much more calmly and thanks the person for coming on the show and says along the lines of “at least you had the courage to come here today”. Ive only ever seen him do this to women politicians and it reminds me of a sort of domestic abuse tactic. PLEASE NOTE, mods: I am NOT calling piers Morgan an abuser or accusing him of abuse, I’m saying the above interview tactic he does reminds me similar to how some abusers can switch from rant to kind within a snap of the fingers.

Pixxie7 · 18/01/2020 02:39

Although I hate his arrogance I do think much of what he says is valid. He says it as he sees it.

Housewife2010 · 18/01/2020 05:16

I think he often talks a lot of sense. Anyone remember when he criticised a mother for encouraging her child to pick public daffodils? I find Susannah and her smugness far more irritating.

LagunaBubbles · 18/01/2020 06:15

MGC31

I don’t generally get to watch him because I have a job

I work shifts. I’m either working or asleep from 6-9

You must work some weird shift times

That comes across as a bit judgemental and sneery and that you are saying the only people who watch breakfast TV don't have jobs! Which is complete nonsense.

I work Monday to Friday 9 till 5, leave the house at 8.15am so have GMB on whilst I'm getting ready and having my coffee etc. So not sure what you mean about weird shift times?

Ledkr · 18/01/2020 09:01

It's on at a time that most people with jobs are able to watch or at least listen to TV or radio

Sarcelle · 18/01/2020 09:13

The ratings improved massively. The show was failing ratings wise before he joined. He is too shouty for the morning, can't watch. I used to, because I don't like BBC Breakfast, but had to stop. I need calm in the morning.
