(The title is supposed to be a light hearted joke....)

DH and I have one DD. She is 3. We are going on her first holiday in July. I felt like I lost myself a bit after having DD and really took to fashion and I really enjoy styling and putting together outfits, quite eccentric outfits with bold statements pieces.

Like my beloved sandals....

I have a beautiful pair of very eccentric, loud, chunky sandals. I bought them last summer and wore them all summer. As soon as we booked the holiday last month all I could think about was getting my sandals out for the 10 days and I day dreamed about different outfits to wear them with

UNTIL yesterday

We were having breakfast yesterday morning and DH says 'Its ds birthday next week, i'll see her at dm house tonight, i'll ask what she wants for her birthday'

He returned home to say she wanted a pair of my beloved sandals to take on holiday.......

DH then gave her his bank card to order them there and then.

AIBU to be annoyed by this?

They were going to be the only shoe I was gonna bring and apparently she is saying the same because theyre ££££

Dh and I spend £££ on DS and her husbands bday presents and they spend £££ on ours. DH has no other siblings and I'm an only child.

AIBU to annoyed? I don't fancy going around our holiday destination in the same sandals, it would be very noticable. She is 25 years older than me, our sense of style is usually very different so she would style them different to me and we won't be going around in the same outfits head to toe.... but still..... :(

Okay so putting aside that there is no accounting for taste I actually think it might be worth a chat to SIL over this. If she is genuinely a nice person she might understand that two people in the same group can not possibly have those sandals on the same holiday.

Does she go away a lot? She might still get them if she can wear them at other times. Also if you broach this very gently it might make her pause before she copies anything else you have.

Thestrangestthing · 16/01/2020 15:10

Ffs they are hidious. Return them and let your sil wear them and get yourself a nice pair.
I actually think someone needs to give you a slap for buying sandals that cost nearly a grand, then someone should give your dh a slap for buying another pair for his sister.

FatherRabulaConundrum · 16/01/2020 15:10

Crikey. £900 for sandals? And your old money hubs bought them for you? I'd be eating baked beanies (baby) on toast for months...

rubydoobydoo · 16/01/2020 15:11

I love them - quirky AND comfy, should I be worried? Blush
Although I could never afford them so I'm safe! Grin

Not keen on the Stella ones, they're a bit.... boring.

84claire84 · 16/01/2020 15:11

😂😂😂

Russellbrandshair · 16/01/2020 15:14

Where do we stand with these MN'ers?

Wow you actually found a pair that are uglier than the first ones! 🤣

Op - there are lots of great sandals out there- these ones are all really clompy and dated (think 90s spice girls). Go to shopstyle.co.uk and search for embellished sandals. Lots of choices there

madeyemoodysmum · 16/01/2020 15:16

I want to see these sandals.

Dodie66 · 16/01/2020 15:16

I would get some in a different colour and not tell her. Do you know which ones she bought?

angelaEhen · 16/01/2020 15:16

They do look comfortable but they look like kids sanded

Owlypants · 16/01/2020 15:16

This is how they look on

Ah just give her your sandals and buy yourself a nice pair of glittery flipflops from Poundland.

SwishSwishSheesh · 16/01/2020 15:16

@Reginabambina it's the 'shoe' bit that tickled me Grin surely it should say 'shoes'. Shoe, trouser, blah blah Grin

smemorata · 16/01/2020 15:16

I officially never "get" fashion but really don't understand the styling of them here:
www.gucci.com/int/en/pr/women/shoes-for-women/sandals-for-women/leather-and-mesh-sandal-with-crystals-p-557471DIR209014?position=50&listName=ProductGrid&categoryPath=Women/Shoes-for-Women/Sandals-for-Women

(Scroll forwards to see them paired with pop socks, dowdy skirt suit and mismatched shirt - why????!)

We got married after I got pregnant at 21...... ??

How the other half live! 🤣

Jomalaldi · 16/01/2020 15:19

If you can afford such expensive shoes why would you only take one pair on holiday?

HowlsMovingBungalow · 16/01/2020 15:20
Hmm
Frenchw1fe · 16/01/2020 15:20

My 84 year old mum wears nicer sandals than these!
It's a pity they don't show them actually on feet, they may look better.

Wildorchidz · 16/01/2020 15:21

Is this going to turn out to be a piss-take?

OhMeows · 16/01/2020 15:23

Bless you OP, you have terrible taste in sandals. Grin

BinkySodPlop · 16/01/2020 15:25

My Skechers D'lites are similar in terms of general shape, but less "out there". Probably not funky enough, but so comfy!

littleolwinedrinker · 16/01/2020 15:25

@Jomalaldi I don't have many pairs of shoes even though I can afford them. I try my best to live a minimalist lifestyle (even if the design of my few pairs of shoes aren't exactly minimal) Hmm

@Russellbrandshair I love the spice girls...... Hmm

theemmadilemma · 16/01/2020 15:27

Fucking hell. I'm all for statement pieces but I can't even begin to think how to make them look anything other than hideous.

Find another pair of gorgeous outstanding sandals. Maybe not quite 'that' outstanding...
