(The title is supposed to be a light hearted joke....)

DH and I have one DD. She is 3. We are going on her first holiday in July. I felt like I lost myself a bit after having DD and really took to fashion and I really enjoy styling and putting together outfits, quite eccentric outfits with bold statements pieces.

Like my beloved sandals....

I have a beautiful pair of very eccentric, loud, chunky sandals. I bought them last summer and wore them all summer. As soon as we booked the holiday last month all I could think about was getting my sandals out for the 10 days and I day dreamed about different outfits to wear them with

UNTIL yesterday

We were having breakfast yesterday morning and DH says 'Its ds birthday next week, i'll see her at dm house tonight, i'll ask what she wants for her birthday'

He returned home to say she wanted a pair of my beloved sandals to take on holiday.......

DH then gave her his bank card to order them there and then.

AIBU to be annoyed by this?

They were going to be the only shoe I was gonna bring and apparently she is saying the same because theyre ££££

Dh and I spend £££ on DS and her husbands bday presents and they spend £££ on ours. DH has no other siblings and I'm an only child.

AIBU to annoyed? I don't fancy going around our holiday destination in the same sandals, it would be very noticable. She is 25 years older than me, our sense of style is usually very different so she would style them different to me and we won't be going around in the same outfits head to toe.... but still..... :(

I volunteer with several homeless shelters

Go there once in your life

Then go out and spend £2500 on shoes........

Bet you can’t

YouokHun · 16/01/2020 16:26

I know nowt about fashion but could this be one of those collaborations like Reebok and Victoria Beckham only this time it’s Gucci and Hobbycraft?

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 16/01/2020 16:26

Oh God sorry OP but I can imagine an entire Ab Fab episode based around these shoes.

That said I like a bit of bling so may have been tempted had they been about 75quid cheaper. They are shoes that need to match a outfit not be worn every day in my opinion. Very surprised they appeal to your old money SIL.

NewName73 · 16/01/2020 16:27

Right.

YouokHun · 16/01/2020 16:27

@MegaClutterSlut you’re taking this a lot more seriously than the peculiarly shod OP!

NewName73 · 16/01/2020 16:29

What is your -fictional- holiday destination OP?

bigknickersbigknockers · 16/01/2020 16:30

They are awful, but I have to know if they were primark would you still love them?

ofay · 16/01/2020 16:30

'Old money', spending that much on a present? Never.

Puddlepop · 16/01/2020 16:31

Had a look at the linked sandals. They’re sold out now, thanks to MN.

(Just kidding)

Can you return these OP? You could get some gorgeoussss swimwear, kaftans, piercings and more for that amount of money.

Beau2020x · 16/01/2020 16:31

Surely if you can afford a £900 pair of sandals, you can afford to take one of your many other swish expensive and probably equally as hideous sandals on holiday?

Deffo a joke.

Buggedandconfused · 16/01/2020 16:32

Is there a Mumsnet equivalent for vapid, pretentious, over entitled old moneyed women? I don’t think this is the place for you hun.

Hoppinggreen · 16/01/2020 16:34

Truffle weren’t we also required to help her choose between 2 very expensive cars?

Good grief. If I was offered £1000 to wear them I still couldn't. I'd have to be whipped.
You married into old money, you say? Hmmm.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 16/01/2020 16:37

dearie me, you will look like a set of CBeebie presenters on tour if you both have them on

dh asked to know what I was guffawing at, his measured comment was " fuck me she could buy a car for that money and not have to wear shoes"

Did you get married in Maui OP??

Ridiculous money for something that looks Primark Kids Section

lifeisgoodmostofthetime · 16/01/2020 16:37

Where are you going on holiday? We should send them a warning as to what's coming their way

Sleepthiefismyfavourite · 16/01/2020 16:38

I like them!

And I have missed you Beanie Smile

Mrsmadevans · 16/01/2020 16:38

You been at the Gin OP?
GrinGrinGrinGrin

MrsMcGarry · 16/01/2020 16:38

You “lost yourself” aged 20 and refound yourself by spending £1k on fugly shoes?

CareBear50 · 16/01/2020 16:42

......honestly... It doesn't matter. First world problems. Just focus on having a lovely time and the sandals will pale into insignigance

LonginesPrime · 16/01/2020 16:42

As soon as we booked the holiday last month all I could think about was getting my sandals out

  1. Book more interesting holidays.

  2. Stop letting others' actions dictate your happiness.

3) Get better shoes.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 16/01/2020 16:42

i think you might be alright OP....looks like the pink have sold out on the Gucci website,

they only have white now.

they look like the most fancy nurse footwear ever.

Ohffsanywilldo · 16/01/2020 16:43
