Do you have any where you live, or any local urban legends?

The closest town to myself there was a man who drove round on a mobility scooter with 4 or 5 real life owls sat with him... He would stop and let people have pics with him and all sorts.

It wasn't done as a one off or charity, he just liked to takes his owls out I guess.

There’s one round here who used to drive around with a bath tub and various other things in the roof of his car. He lives in a caravan apparently with no plumbing
Unlike a lot of other people though I isn’t find him funny In the slightest. He has no tax or insurance and his dogs are a bloody menace . He thinks he can do whatever he wants and people just laugh because he’s a “colourful character”. Live your life how you want but don’t let your dogs attack other dogs/people and clog up Police time and the courts with your oh so hilarious representing yourself in court. TV programs have been made about him and from what I hear he’s quite a nasty man who turns on everyone who tries to help him

Please can we stop with the Purple Aki as a 'local celebrity' in a har dee har way.

One boy was that shit scared of him he ran to get away from him over railway tracks and was electrocuted to death, leaving behind his pregnant girlfriend.

He is a creepy bastard who has been imprisoned previously for harassment and been handed SOPO's, so this funny urban legend that everyone has heard off and laughs at, is actually a very sick individual.

FthisS · 14/01/2020 15:16

We had a guy who was seriously overweight but would do these football tricks down by the docks. He would be seriously sweating but could keep going for ages. Some people filmed him and put it on youtube it went viral and he ended up on tv. I haven't seen him in a couple of years but he was known as the welsh Maradona.

Stickybeaksid · 14/01/2020 15:24

Bono or bonio as my elderly neighbour calls him. He has a very flashy car but loves a pint in the local.

Damntheman · 14/01/2020 15:58

@Jess8654 I've known that family since I was about nine. Lovely town you live in!

Jess8654 · 14/01/2020 16:22

@Damntheman

Many, many moons ago she (then called Brittany) taught my daughter the violin!

Damntheman · 14/01/2020 16:27

Oh how fun! I used to play cello with Guy. Wow that's been a long time!

RedSoles · 14/01/2020 16:28

@PositiveVibez I’ve heard the name Purple Aki so I just googled him. Christ, what a vile individual and bloody scary too.

Paintingtheroseswhite · 14/01/2020 16:34

I think reading the posts there might be two owl scooter men. One on Teesside and one in Leigh on Solent (Unless Stella McCartney has just moved to Middlesbrough 😂).

The one on Teesside has 4 barn owls on his scooter shopping basket.

Ihatesundays · 14/01/2020 16:36

Stellas husband is from Middlesbrough though Grin

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 14/01/2020 16:41

@pigdogridesagain we must be neighbours!!

I also see Right Said Fred almost every day-they eat breakfast in the same cafe and dinner in the same Italian.

Seem to lead a very nice life from being too sexy for my love...

Stravapalava · 14/01/2020 16:46

I have lived near Pete the Feet, who used to walk round barefoot. Also on the same road as a fella called Dancing Ken, who was an eccentric and his house was decorated on the outside in crazy colours. Both passed on now and both lovely guys.

Real celebs - probably, but I've never seen any in the street / town etc.

Paintingtheroseswhite · 14/01/2020 16:46

Good grief, so he is - have they got a gaff in Gresham then? 😂😂😂

ArfArfBarf · 14/01/2020 16:52

I remember the puppet man and marigold (and less fondly, the Unthank Rd gimp).

Cheeseandwin5 · 14/01/2020 16:57

I have a few minor ones
As a child I was in a front page photo in the Finchely Times with Margaret Thatcher (not talking to her or anything but i was in close vicinity)
I met Pamela Ann Clements ( Pat Butcher) in Borehamwood High street.
She was buying a mop.
I met Jon Pertwee and Harry Hill at a radio show. Harry Hill was quite a lovely and down to earth chap.

moanaschicken · 14/01/2020 17:00

Hmm plenty around here

Various members of the royal family when not in London.

Dom Joly isn't far up the road.

Richard Ayoade spent his summer holiday here.

Richard Hammond isn't far

Saw Jillie cooper the other week, she is the nearest.

Oh and Jamie Dornan.

Katiet123 · 14/01/2020 17:05

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll I remember the xylophone man! So lovely!

Llareggub · 14/01/2020 17:22

Loads where I live. There’s the colourful man, who dresses like every day is a Pride parade. He keeps a regular schedule, walking the same route into town at 8.40 and returning around 3. He is very jolly, and rumour has it that he was once a TV presenter in Egypt.

Much loved was Tea Cosy Pete, who sadly died a few years back. He was homeless by choice.

Theweasleytwins · 14/01/2020 17:25

Op I went to a small town in Devon and saw a man on a mobility scooter with real owls on😊

weaselwords · 14/01/2020 17:50

Good to see Pete the Feet get a mention. We also used to have the Monkey Man round here, until he fell in love and moved to Wales. We still have him on the mural on the High Street. I’ve never spoken to either of them but always heard they were good company. RIP Pete Flowers www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/moseley-legend-pete-feet-given-15820457.amp

weaselwords · 14/01/2020 17:51
