Do you have any where you live, or any local urban legends?

The closest town to myself there was a man who drove round on a mobility scooter with 4 or 5 real life owls sat with him... He would stop and let people have pics with him and all sorts.

It wasn't done as a one off or charity, he just liked to takes his owls out I guess.

We have The Puppet Man (at least i think we still do - haven't seen him in a while) who shakes furry hand puppets around to 60s songs.

And the tattooed brothers who are literally covered from head to toe with tattoos and piercings.

and Zoella.

RuffleCrow · 14/01/2020 11:42

Oh, and Glinner.

RuffleCrow · 14/01/2020 11:47

*Oops that should be Tanya Burr, not Zoella. I'm not a big youtube fan, as you may have guessed.

Catweazle was our local celeb. Lovely gentleman Now sadly passed but with a lasting tribute to him in town. Used to sing outside Woolworths and say quack quack to all the kids in town who knew him as the quack quack man.

There is a woman who lives in my area called Mad Jenny. She drives around on a mobility scooter bringing various dogs with her. Some carried in shopping bags.
She used to live in a mobile home but she had to move because they built a new road through her site. She held up building the road for a while by refusing to move. She was in the local papers with sad photos of her and her many dogs. She got a new council flat after that.
She drives around the local shopping centre asking people for a change to feed her dogs.
I've no idea how old she is, she was an old woman when I moved here 25 years ago.
She's a bit of a legend around here

Harry Judd’s (McFly) wife is from my town. Her parents run a music school here.

But that’s about it.

Paddy1234 · 14/01/2020 12:01

We had a local chap - happy as anything that sat all the time on a postbox at the crossroads - I certainly couldn't get up on it.
He passed away last year - huge amount of flowers there and made our local news
It isn't the same without him there 😢

Paddy1234 · 14/01/2020 12:03

Oh have I got the wrong end of this thread - sorry just reading I thought it was for urban legends not actual celebrities 😱

Ellisandra · 14/01/2020 12:11

@Paddy1234 don’t worry - you were right!

Snidpan · 14/01/2020 12:11

Steve Coogan, Rufus Jones (wrote/starred in Home), Noah Taylor (Paddington, Shine, Preacher), Terry Mynott (impressionist, had 2 series on channel 4), Fatboy Slim, Zoe Ball, Pewdiepie, Zoella, Dave Gilmour, Chris Eubank, Cate Blanchett (which I didn't know about!)

SimonJT · 14/01/2020 12:12

@Centralperkregular in that case, hello neighbour!

DeathByPuppy · 14/01/2020 12:21

One ‘big’ celeb around here but he is an old rocker, retired and lives very quietly. People leave him to it. There are a few other local faces but they are sportspeople (cricket and rugby, mainly) and I couldn’t pick them out of a lineup.

BigFatGoalie · 14/01/2020 12:33

Along with the bearded Lady of Guildford we have an ageing (homeless??) rocker man with long dreds who drags his electrical guitar and amp to the High Street and busks and sings reggae hits! No idea what his name is but he does a great rendition of “No Woman, No Cry” outside WHSmith.

Pinkette06 · 14/01/2020 12:39

I'm from the same town! He was always doing petitions. Think he moved away?

Pinkette06 · 14/01/2020 12:40

@HeddaGarbled oops was meant to tag you in above reply

Pinkette06 · 14/01/2020 12:49

@SillyUnMurphy I know the village Sonia now lives in. My grandad lives there and sees her a lot and even though she's told him she's actually called natalie he forgets and still says hello sonia!BlushGrin

nearly40andfat · 14/01/2020 12:55

We have a man with a cat in a carrier that he wheels around on a homemade looking trolly thing. A woman with just one matted lump of hair, sometimes she puts a scrunchie around it Hmm. An old running man, always in shorts, always running.

dogcrazy · 14/01/2020 12:55

We’ve got a man called Dancing Dave. He dances down the road with his eyes shut, no accompanying music. I’ve seen a woman walking a ferret twice recently. I think she may become a bit of a local celeb, possibly not in a good way as walking a ferret in an area dogs are allowed off lead seems like a recipe for disaster to me!

GlennBulb · 14/01/2020 12:56

@Brainfogmcfogface, Earth Angel by any chance?
And the guy who 'works' For the BBC does his name Begin with a D?
Mobility Scooter guy, I seen him just after Christmas,he's pimped that scootay right out, fairylights, tinsel the lot!
I think we live in the same town!

GlennBulb · 14/01/2020 13:04

@OlaEliza! Lenny the tramp! Is he still going?

whymewhyme · 14/01/2020 13:07

We have someone known as 'the Don'; despite the name I don't live in Sicily but in north-east London. I don't think he's Italian, he just wears a fedora and a dark suit at all times, and good shoes, and looks a bit Mafia-esque. He must be getting on; he's been around for all the 15 years I've lived here and he wasn't a young man then.

WWDiana · 14/01/2020 14:03

@luanmapo Norwich, yes! Puppet man is a ledge!!

@Thewheelsarefallingoff ahh I don't remember Marigold
