Do you have any where you live, or any local urban legends?

The closest town to myself there was a man who drove round on a mobility scooter with 4 or 5 real life owls sat with him... He would stop and let people have pics with him and all sorts.

It wasn't done as a one off or charity, he just liked to takes his owls out I guess.

When I was a student in the 90s, White Woman of Camberwell (surprised she hasn’t been mentioned yet?). Also Chinese Elvis on the Walworth road.

Urkiddingright · 14/01/2020 08:40

There was a man where I grew up who walked around dressed in robes and sandals like Jesus. He had done this since my Mum was little and he only died about six or so years ago. He didn’t say a thing to anyone, just walked around all over the city waving and smiling at people. The rumour was that he lived in a huge mansion but I have no idea, he didn’t seem to have a job anyway.

@Tanith No, Enfield. This Lenny used to sit outside the m&s mostly.

LittleCandle · 14/01/2020 08:41

Used to shop on a regular basis at the same time as Jason Connery. Rory Bremner used to bring his kids to the riding school we went to during his holidays.

Near my sisters uni house there was a man in a mobility scooter that used to graze horses and goats on a patch of grass by the road. Not a field, just a patch of grass between path and road. He used to lead them away at night.very friendly and ker you pet them. My friend went to Reading uni in the 90s and introduced me to Reading elvis who used to always carry elvis records around with him.

I quite often see stormtroopers in the town and there were a couple in Sainsbury’s once.

Brimful · 14/01/2020 08:43

Dancing Ken.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/01/2020 08:47

It's quite sad really but there was a local man that everyone knew because he was an alcoholic and used to stagger round town every day singing. He had a very sad life, his DD was killed in a car accident and his brother was murdered.

He was a lovely happy drunk, never nasty or aggressive and everyone loved him.

He passed away last year and he had no family so there was an open invitation on facebook to his funeral. A local caterer provided free food and hundreds of people showed up.

SimonJT if its the same celeb i am thinking about then we r neighbours... without giving too much away is this celeb a "budgie" in a sitcom?

Russell19 · 14/01/2020 08:59

The city I went to university in had a man who walked backwards with a notebook and he wrote down all the car number plates that drove past.

Everybody spoke fondly of him.

Originalusernameunavailable · 14/01/2020 09:01

We have lots where I live which is strange as we are a small village in the south.

My favourite claim though for all the wrong reasons is my mum’s neighbour was the woman shagging Katie Price’s husband. All good fun the day that story broke Confused. They’ve moved now.

yearinyearout · 14/01/2020 09:07

Robert Plant lives in the next village, he can often be seen in local pubs.

Spudina · 14/01/2020 09:12

I’m so glad someone mentioned Xylophone man. He was a Nottingham legend. He gave all of his takings to charity I heard and had a tram named after him.

chocolateneededrn · 14/01/2020 09:27

@stepitupjuan yes, I am! That's right, got mistaken with the outfit:)

Bamalaz · 14/01/2020 10:00

@stepitupjuan well I never!! I know the man you mean, just never heard that rumour!

LOVE the Klopp story, thought I couldn't love him any more but now I do!

What about the singing man in town who now has a range of fancy suits?

CurbsideProphet · 14/01/2020 10:14

@Bipbipbipbip ah No Smoking Man. So many stories were told about him. I never knew the truth. I think he was known across the whole of Merseyside.

Damntheman · 14/01/2020 10:31

There's a children's toilet in my city's public library bearing a proud plaque proclaiming that Kristoffer Hivju of Game of Thrones fame once used it :o :o

christmaskit · 14/01/2020 11:01

SistersOfPercy · 14/01/2020 11:14

Eddie Redmayne has a property up the road. He's often spotted in my local shops, especially B&Q. Irritatingly, never by me.

luanmapo · 14/01/2020 11:14

@WWDiana
Norwich by any chance?? Puppet Man is a legend!!

stepitupjuan · 14/01/2020 11:29

What about the singing man in town who now has a range of fancy suits?

I don't think I've seen him @Bamalaz. Where does he go? I'm not a frequent visitor to town these days Smile

Depending on how old you are, do remember a chap called Tanner? Longish blonde hair and a leather jacket, walked with a swagger, always smoking. Can't remember what the deal was with him but he used to get mentioned in school often. This was the 80's.

I don't know if you knew Richard, styled his hair into a Mohican, wore a leather jacket and studded jewellery and carried a steel brief case? Had an alter ego called Marmaduke. He passed away last year.

percheron67 · 14/01/2020 11:30

Mark Lester is my osteopath.

DinaCaliente · 14/01/2020 11:32

We've got the Dancing Man and there's also George that everyone knows, an elderly man that always wears a skirt.

My boss is a minor celeb.

Mrshue · 14/01/2020 11:34

We live right by Katie price and her mum. Sadly.
