Do you have any where you live, or any local urban legends?

The closest town to myself there was a man who drove round on a mobility scooter with 4 or 5 real life owls sat with him... He would stop and let people have pics with him and all sorts.

It wasn't done as a one off or charity, he just liked to takes his owls out I guess.

@WWDiana, I live in the same place as you. Are you old enough to remember Marigold? The man who used to stand in the middle of a city centre roundabout directing the traffic, wearing marigolds.

maddiemookins16mum · 14/01/2020 07:43

Vic Reeves often parks his huge car at the front of our station.

anunseemlylovefordustin · 14/01/2020 07:57

Puppet Man!

FredaFox · 14/01/2020 07:57

I see purple aki pretty regularly in Manchester, always carrying an old carrier bag

EssentialHummus · 14/01/2020 07:58

A local Elvis impersonator who is out in all weathers, always in the full get-up even when walking his dog. Sometimes does gigs, but also sings from his balcony with an amp, sets up at the local train station and occasionally on the high street outside the fishmonger's. I think he's in his 20s.

FredaFox · 14/01/2020 07:58

I also see a few Corrie people knocking around

CwtchesCuddles · 14/01/2020 08:08

My dh is a friend of a close relative of Bonnie Tyler. We have been to her house many times, its local to us.

CMOTDibbler · 14/01/2020 08:09

In a town close to me there is a bloke who takes his large tortoise out on a lead and goes to the pub with it which always causes a stir.

OlaEliza · 14/01/2020 08:09

Lenny the tramp.
Crazy George.

I don't think there are any famous people living round there now but there are lots that came from the area.

Karen Brady.
Larry Lamb.
Bruce Forsyth.
Dave from Chas & Dave.
Adele is from next door.
Amy Winehouse from down the road.
Pauline quirke I think.
Posh spice originally lived where Adele did but she's scrubbed that from the internet.
David Beckham is from the next borough.
East 17, the next borough.
There's a huge list on Wikipedia, I can't remember the others.
Ray Winstone lived the other end of the borough.

OlaEliza · 14/01/2020 08:12

Lenny the tramp had quite a Facebook and local paper following. He's even had a song released about him and had his own one out I think.

Lemons1571 · 14/01/2020 08:12

Loads of celeb second homes round here (Cotswolds ish). Gary Barlow has a place in a location that you’d never guess!

Bipbipbipbip · 14/01/2020 08:13

No Smoking Man in Liverpool when I used to visit my then BF who was living there.

Old guy, bike covered in no smoking signs, passed away a few years ago.

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/01/2020 08:18

Very dull where I live now but I used to live in a village where you would regularly see a man in full roman army kit. I was always very impressed he could walk in it all.

Tanith · 14/01/2020 08:19

Are you from Reading, Ola? I remember Lenny!

Also the poor lady with the calamine lotion all over her face who used to wheel her possessions in shopping trolley - quite a sad backstory.

Is Elvis still around? They were going to get him to switch on the Christmas lights one year.

Scrump21 · 14/01/2020 08:21

@maloofhoof I did mean people that are known to others living in the area (although I am enjoying the actual celeb stories haha)

I remember Marigold, one summer he got an extra arm made of a broomstick with a stuffed glove on it, he seemed so happy. Also the house on the Sprowston Road I think that had 100s of stuffed toys outside. As a kid I thought it looked amazing but my mum was always convinced it would be heaving with rats!

stepitupjuan · 14/01/2020 08:26

@Bipbipbipbip he used to regularly cycle from Southport to Liverpool! He wasn't young and his bike was laden with all sorts including the no smoking signs

BigFatGoalie · 14/01/2020 08:26

catinb0oots I know who you mean!!! Grin

SillyUnMurphy · 14/01/2020 08:26

Sonia from Eastenders and Gino 'robber of Paul Young' DiCampo live nearby and we shop at the same M&S food.

Squashbuckle · 14/01/2020 08:28

I knew Puppet Man would be mentioned here! Lovely to see Marigold remembered too.

Rainbowbabymummy · 14/01/2020 08:29

The highland silent racer of Glasgow. There was also a guy who lived in my street that had a pet rat and would take it to the local shops. It would sit on shes shoulder and he had altered all his clothes and bags so that the rat could move from the bag inside his jacket and out through his sleeve Envy

Wickedwoo · 14/01/2020 08:32

JRR Tolken wrote lord on the rings in a cottage down the road from me. Also the village i live was the capital of England for a very short time whilst a Queen or King stayed here

Scrump21 · 14/01/2020 08:32

I love all the posts with people taking such a variety of animals places.... It makes me feel very boring only having a dog to walk Grin

John the pram man is our legend.
And A57 man.

stuckinthemiddlewithtwats · 14/01/2020 08:36

In my local town we used to have a bloke called Kipper who dragged around a karaoke machine on a small barrow/trailer, generally being a nuisance. He was 'famous' for throwing cream buns at the police while they were trying to arrest him.
I was in Cuba a few years ago and someone asked me where I was from, said my town and he asked me if I knew Kipper! Grin.

We also had a Keith Lemon lookalike who went round the pubs taking selfies with drunk folks.
