Do you have any where you live, or any local urban legends?

The closest town to myself there was a man who drove round on a mobility scooter with 4 or 5 real life owls sat with him... He would stop and let people have pics with him and all sorts.

It wasn't done as a one off or charity, he just liked to takes his owls out I guess.

There is a man where we live who drives around in his banana yellow open top car with his dog in the front. Said dog wears a Sunderland football top.

There used to be a man known as 'Gerry Blossom' who put shoe polish in his head to hide the fact he was as bald. Wasn't too effective a strategy...

BigSandyBalls2015 · 15/01/2020 18:45

Moses was well known in the Kingston area. Big black guy dressed head to toe in black or red, usually with a teddy strapped to his waist, a real local character and a gentle giant. I think he passed away last year.

FactoidFan · 15/01/2020 18:46

In the town I grew up in (not the city I live in now) there were the following local characters:
Comment t'appelles-tu. He would greet you by saying comment t'appelles-tu to you and then recite bus timetables to you.
A nameless but lovely lady who had lots of warts and always wore a bright yellow rain mac and hat, regardless of the weather. She was always smiling.

VanGoghsDog · 15/01/2020 19:08

@Bunnyfuller

I am not a hairdresser! I don't work locally, I don't have kids, so I don't know anyone at all!

SheSawHorsesHorsesHorses · 15/01/2020 19:09

Not near me, but I had a parent who was acquainted very casually with the Bonham-Carter family. Apparently even at 14, Helena B-C was stunning!

SheSawHorsesHorsesHorses · 15/01/2020 19:10

Bakedbrie Was she the lady behind the M25 bridge graffiti?

DoIStayOrDoIGoNow · 15/01/2020 19:10

@Scrump21 either I live in the same area as you (and didn’t know about Stella!) or there are two blokes with owls on their mobility scooters 😂

bbyj2019 · 15/01/2020 19:11

"Gerry Blossom* GrinGrinGrin

SheSawHorsesHorsesHorses · 15/01/2020 19:13

Oops- I see I have misunderstood the point of the thread. Scrolling upwards, I see it is about local characters rather than TV celebs etc Well, we had some interesting street theatre acts near where I live- a man on a tightrope playing a violin. And the Sand Labrador man- made dogs out of sand. The nuttiest had to be a horse puppet who "sang" along to a casette tape! (Think may be outing myself here though)

CassidyStone · 15/01/2020 19:14

@chocolateneededrn I know the man, he marches up and down the prom and goes on the pier during the summer. Quite the entertainer, bless him.
