Do you have any where you live, or any local urban legends?

The closest town to myself there was a man who drove round on a mobility scooter with 4 or 5 real life owls sat with him... He would stop and let people have pics with him and all sorts.

It wasn't done as a one off or charity, he just liked to takes his owls out I guess.

Laughing at the two threads going on here.

We had a big issue seller who used to sing big issue big issue to the tune of jingle bells. He was great but think he got a better spot in a big city. His wife has his old spot. She doesn't sing.

@Stravapalava
Pete the Feet has another name too I think? Rob Roy? Or he may have been another chap who roamed town barefoot!

Casino218 · 14/01/2020 19:01

@hallygore you don't wear Hawaiin shirts and like to go to the pub too do you by any chance?

percheron67 · 14/01/2020 19:01

Moonflower. Great! I knew of Dancing Ken! Popular chap, apparently.

yellowellies · 14/01/2020 19:01

I was coming on to say John the man with the pram, but a couple of people have beaten me to it- hello neighbours!! There is a man who walks his ferrets in the local park, who is mostly friendly and will talk to kids about the ferrets (doesn’t like dogs/dog walkers though)

For real celebrities, Jess Ennis is local, often see her with the kids in the park, or walking her dog, and weirdly at the dentists!

PhilSwagielka · 14/01/2020 19:10

Paul Heaton (Housemartins/Beautiful South) lives in my area. I see him around a lot, but I've never spoken to him even though I love both bands, because he seems quite private and he's sometimes had his kids with him. He was sat at a table near me in my local veggie caff one time and I had to explain to my mate who he was. My mum sold him a cake at a local festival after my auntie roped her in to help.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 14/01/2020 19:11

I think many who are being talked about as eccentrics are actually suffering with mh issues

We had a man like this where I used to live and people started filming him and posting it on YouTube calls for him to run for mayor, switch on the Christmas lights so everyone could laugh with the crazy guy it wasn’t nice and once called out thankfully it stopped

He would happily chat to everyone but he certainly struggled with everyday living and him muttering and shouting to himself while dancing in the street was never funny

stepitupjuan · 14/01/2020 19:13

if I ever encountered the divine Jurgen in the flesh I am sure I would come over all unnecessary and make a complete prat of myself.

He's perfect isn't he? Whilst my lad didn't disturb him he's very approachable. He recently walked his dog local to his home and came across a girls football match so he stopped to watch then posed for photos once everyone clocked into him. Perfect, and hopefully shortly to become a bona fide legend

PhilSwagielka · 14/01/2020 19:13

And if we're talking about weird local people, there was an Indian bag lady called Jag Kancharna Singh who students called the 'Crazy Bus Lady', because she used to hang out on Magic Buses delivering these mad leaflets she'd put together. When Facebook first became a thing, she had a group dedicated to her and I think someone set a profile up for her as well. She was a paranoid schizophrenic who used to be a lawyer, and her kids were NC, and she was convinced the government were out to get her. She yelled at me once for running to get the bus, when I was late for work. I've not seen her in ages, not sure if she's still around or not. It was always a bit surreal seeing freshers encounter her for the first time.

@MT2017 My mum knew Timmy Mallett at uni! He did student radio. He asked her out but thank fuck, she said no.

@TerribleCustomerCervix I have a friend from Belfast whose grandad taught Van. He was an 'eejit', apparently.

booksandcaffeine · 14/01/2020 19:17

There's been a few notable locals near to me... There's one called Mad Kev. He's harmless though.

Mammyloveswine · 14/01/2020 19:20

Not rtft but I'm sure anyone who lives/has lived in York knows the legend that is Plaggy Terry...

Local legend is how he describes himself..

MT2017 · 14/01/2020 19:31

@PhilSwagielka you could have been a mini Mallett Grin ⚒️

PhilSwagielka · 14/01/2020 19:48

My mum likes to remind me of this.

Killerqueen2244 · 14/01/2020 20:08

There are rumours that Tom Hardy’s bought a house in our village. We are near the Cotswolds but we’re not a chocolate box looking village...maybe that’s his plan though?! Inconspicuous house buying!!!

Loneranger14 · 14/01/2020 20:17

Theres a man who sits in his mobility scooter outside Greggs at 7.30 every morning and he has a bag of seeds what he throws on the floor for the pigeons and they all come and surround him like the old women on home alone.
Although i did have to laugh one morning when school kids was coming out of Greggs someone throw a bit of sausage roll on the floor and he went saying how bad it was for the pigeons and they shouldn't feed them anything other than pigeon seeds.

NewName54321 · 14/01/2020 20:24

@EmmaGrundyForPM
I knew Snowy Farr would be mentioned. I used to think he was Father Christmas.

Hugely missed opportunity with the statue to continue the fundraising he did.

There was also a chap who walked up Hills Road every afternoon and saluted the soldier on the War Memorial.

fishonabicycle · 14/01/2020 20:26

Davina McCall lives near and used to go to the same PT as me - she was nice and friendly. Bob Mortimer lives around the corner and looks quite miserable whenever I see him.

fishonabicycle · 14/01/2020 20:29

Oh and a man dressed up as batman used to drive around all over the place on a Segway.

letsdolunch321 · 14/01/2020 20:35

Peter Andre lives in my town and Adele was living in the town at one point.

Have seen Peter's kids in one of the towns coffee shops, assume he was with them.

RabbitBeaver · 14/01/2020 20:37

I loved to see the monkey man before he moved to Wales. I loved his Britney Spears school outfit the best haha
