Do you have any where you live, or any local urban legends?

The closest town to myself there was a man who drove round on a mobility scooter with 4 or 5 real life owls sat with him... He would stop and let people have pics with him and all sorts.

It wasn't done as a one off or charity, he just liked to takes his owls out I guess.

@Ashtower (North London) Kenny the tramp?
That's awful by any means!

Menora · 14/01/2020 20:42

Rod Stewart. He really does drive around the local area in a small red convertible with the top down, he was seen once coming out of B&M with a bucket and mop which he put into the back of the car and drove home with the mop handle sticking out. You can tell it’s him as his hair is quite big. I got stuck in some traffic down a small side street with him oncoming towards me a few months ago and DD1 said very loudly ‘look at that mans hair!’ Blush. I just rolled the window up

Fred Elliot actor used to go in the local pub. He was very posh and very rude

Mike Reid used to drive his Rolls up to the motorway traffic lights and wave at all his fans

Keith Flint - RIP

Local celeb wise we had a woman called Mad Claire around town who apparently was a prostitute back in her day. Her house was like something from Amityville, she wore huge flowing skirts and would shout at people in the street. She was scary. She’s gone now and her house was all gutted. Apparently it was hoarded to the gills with carrier bags. Looking back I feel awful people used to be so cruel about her

A couple of ex brookside/Hollyoaks/Corrie actors live in my town.
One of them has a child in DD's class, he's very nice, scouse and normal.

Oblomov20 · 14/01/2020 20:46

Tom Hardy is at our local 'Jump Giants' trampolining, with his son, regularly.

LakieLady · 14/01/2020 20:50

He's perfect isn't he? Whilst my lad didn't disturb him he's very approachable. He recently walked his dog local to his home and came across a girls football match so he stopped to watch then posed for photos once everyone clocked into him. Perfect, and hopefully shortly to become a bona fide legend

And living proof that Germans DO h.ave a sense of humour (ditto: Henning Wehn's comment that "A German joke is no laughing matter" lol).

@stepitupjuan

Was Richard the guy who wore the long leather jacket? Went to the Krazyhouse?

The man with the colourful suits stands outside Boots on Church Street with a kids microphone Grin

Absolutely! And utterly off topic but nonetheless interesting, and on the theme of dispelling myths about the Germans, google Brandenburg Airport Shock

whiteroseredrose · 14/01/2020 21:02

We had Market Dave who used to pull a rag and bone type cart around.

stepitupjuan · 14/01/2020 21:04

I don't think that can be him. Richard was in his early 70's when he passed I think. He seemed to have had a stroke or possibly Parkinson's. Often in the Co-op on Brighton road. They had drinks in the Volley to celebrate him after he passed.

Knowing the character he was though I could be wrong!

MissClareRemembers · 14/01/2020 21:06

@Alexandra54 The Bearded Lady of Guildford is sadly no longer around. She was in a nursing home last thing I heard.

Do you recall the man that used to sit outside Burger King with glove puppets on his feet?

LilyJade · 14/01/2020 21:12

When I used to go clubbing in our town in the south of England I would see page 3 girl Leilani Dowding around, now I see she's on housewives of Cheshire acting really bitchy which is a shame.

I remember meeting Gordon the Tramp in several situations.
When he was 70ish he would walk round town at night drunk & swear under his breath at us girls. He was quite rude when he was drunk.
Then he became famous thanks to the local university students.

WonderWoman36 · 14/01/2020 21:14

Years ago in Putney whilst I worked there I remember always seeing the gentleman in the wheelchair. He wasn't a celebrity or anything but if you were a local in Putney you just knew him and he knew you... Years later I sat him the when passing and he was still there, haven't been in a long while though, hope he's well!!

Also, the dancing dwarf guy in Kingston who used to dance shirtless no matter the weather... not sure if he's there anymore... This is from about 20 years ago though so pretty sure he's hung up his dancing shoes...

I moved away years ago but those two stand out in my mind from those areas growing up

ScarletMascara · 14/01/2020 21:17

When I was at 6th form, there was a man who often used our library . He wore star shaped children’s sunglasses - all year round- and would make himself cheese and crackers, which he would keep in a silver cigarette case ....

Bouledeneige · 14/01/2020 22:00

We have quite a lot of bring C list celebrities locally.

More interesting are the local characters - if I describe their behaviour you will think I'm unsympathetic to mental health issues. I'm not. But we have:

  • the man who shouts expletives at you on the street
  • the lady who talks loudly and excitedly in Italian in a local coffee shop as if she's speaking to someone opposite her
  • the man who walks backwards everywhere
  • the lady who dresses up in Latvian national dress

It's a very nice area - there's a variety of life. They are a lot more interesting thanTV actors.

LadyGAgain · 14/01/2020 23:19

The Burger King puppet guy was affectionately known as 'special branch' @MissClareRemembers as he used to have a big branch of a tree behind him.

HeddaGarbled · 14/01/2020 23:35

@Pinkette06, yes, I wonder if he’s still active wherever he moved to. He was still doing all the royal stuff until fairly recently.

EskiVodkaCranberry · 14/01/2020 23:54

@Tanith Reading Elvis is still around Grin

feeona123 · 14/01/2020 23:56

I was in the till queue behind Carole Middleton on Friday. Had a good nosey at her food shop!

lborgia · 15/01/2020 00:24

Although this was spotted for reddit/daily fail in a different area, this lives near me. Very famous locally, don't want to know who the owner is, scary.

Grew up surrounded by celebs and minor royals, but it becomes normal. This will never feel normal.

@GlennBulb I think so. Last I heard he was mostly dossing on Lancaster Road now. I moved away a few years ago now and only go back to my mums on the other side of the borough.

OlaEliza · 15/01/2020 01:19

@Ashtower Lennie the tramp was set on fire

Enfield or Reading Lenny?

eenymeenyminyme · 15/01/2020 08:59

Enfield or Reading Lenny?

Reading Lenny, 16 years ago. When they rebuilt the bridge he used to live under they put a memorial plaque up, which was a nice touch.

That's so sad.

IntermittentParps · 15/01/2020 09:46

If we're talking real slebs, we have Owen Jones. I've never seen him, actually, although everyone else I know round here has.

I think the writer Sarfraz Manzoor lives round here too and have seen him a couple of times.
