I’ll give you a pass for off white.

Please someone tell me they also remember when the woman posted her roast dinner on a clear see through plate? #wistful

I think they can also be blue and white actually.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 11/01/2020 18:24

How boring if we all had white plates.

pictish · 11/01/2020 18:24

I do agree. I mean obviously have whatever colour and design of plates you like...but for me, food simply looks more appetising and well presented on a bog standard white, round plate.
I’m not fond of square plates either, the corners are annoying for scooping food.

BarbarAnna · 11/01/2020 18:24

But I would agree that a see through plate is all levels of wrong!

Pollaidh · 11/01/2020 18:24

Ours have the family coat of arms on in gold leaf. Is that ok?
Admittedly we use our old (plain white) student Woolworths ones for every day.

ComtesseDeSpair · 11/01/2020 18:25

Mine are black. They actually look quite good, especially with food in shades of whites and greens.

Plugitinthen · 11/01/2020 18:26

Coat of arms acceptable. Possibly. Did you buy a title off the internet? If so then no.

My daughter has square plates; I find it quite unsettling.

TheQueensCousin · 11/01/2020 18:27

Correct!

Plugitinthen · 11/01/2020 18:27

Black? BLACK?

Where does one purchase such a thing

Mine are red

BarbarAnna · 11/01/2020 18:29

I have a slightly rounded square from IKEA. Is that ok?

Soconfusedandlost · 11/01/2020 18:29

My nanna had see through plates. They are a mid brown sepia tone glass and she has the majority of a full dinner set including teacups, saucers and dishes.

They were a big trend in the 80s and every bugger had them. I only know this as when I bought my first house (within last 5 years) I was offered about 7 sets of the feckin' things from various relatives and family friends.

Ask an older person and I bet they've eaten off them/still have them in a cupboard somewhere

HB2019 · 11/01/2020 18:29

My sister had a square crockery set INCLUDING BOWLS Confused honestly square bowls Hmm

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 11/01/2020 18:29

I agree, white all the way!

BrieAndChilli · 11/01/2020 18:29

I agree with white plates for various reasons
White goes with all food and shows the food off to its best
Can mix and match table wear more easily
Easier to replace or find more that matches closely

HollowTalk · 11/01/2020 18:30

Have you seen this site? I particularly like the starter on a brick.

ComtesseDeSpair · 11/01/2020 18:30

@Plugitinthen

Ikea! I bought them as a slightly goth student and they’ve lasted 15 years and a dozen house moves with every single plate and dish intact.

I think they still sell them in black.

APatchyTomCat · 11/01/2020 18:30

I actually think food looks good on a black plate, especially if it’s colourful.

Soconfusedandlost · 11/01/2020 18:31

Also I agree with round but would settle for any block colour, not quite specifically. I had red plates once which were nice but I felt a bit too jazzy eating cereals hungover-to-fuck from a bowl the colour of Scarlett Johansson lippie. I got rid soon after

sonjadog · 11/01/2020 18:31

I have dark blue plates. They are from Ikea.

bsc · 11/01/2020 18:31

I chef I knew at university said only ever white.
But I have a white set, and a white with coloured rim set I like them both.

Thestrangestthing · 11/01/2020 18:32

God how boring can life get.
