I’ll give you a pass for off white.

Please someone tell me they also remember when the woman posted her roast dinner on a clear see through plate? #wistful

I have Denby Imperial Blue - the plates are white with a blue rim, the other tableware is blue, so you get the best of both worlds.

Progress2019 · 11/01/2020 19:22

Oooh no. Whittards used to sell mix and match plates, and thats what we use. I wish they still did them, or can anyone recommend similar?

viques · 11/01/2020 19:22

the woman wh who posted a picture of. her dinner on a clear plate

When I was little we has a clear Pyrex plate. It was called the princess plate and my sister and I took it in turns to eat from it.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 11/01/2020 19:23

My parents had the see through Pyrex plates when I was a child. They were strange as all the cutting of food scratched the plates and made them misty. Wouldn't dream of them now - we have white square for everyday and my parents' old service (green and white from Green Shield Stamps!) for best!

Grasspigeons · 11/01/2020 19:23

Its so dull. I do have white every day plates, but there is the Canton loot as Grandpa called it and the delftware which are very colourful.

cjpark · 11/01/2020 19:23

I have white Wedgwood with a thin platinum rim. They were a wedding gift 20 years ago and we use them everyday. Every year, the oldest 2 or 3 get relegated and 3 new pieces bought.

MotherPupper · 11/01/2020 19:24

Mine have unicorns on... 🦄

pointythings · 11/01/2020 19:25

I voted YABU because the only thing I am dogmatic about is that I will always oppose dogma.

My plates are grey on the back but the serving area is white. I now feel the need to buy the most garish multicoloured plates I can get hold of.

JacquesHammer · 11/01/2020 19:26

I have the most gorgeous Victorian set. Off white with a floral motif around the edge. They’ve done 5 generations.

zonkin · 11/01/2020 19:27

Not convinced by the comment about only white bed sheets, duvet covets etc with cushions, blankets etc for colour. Cushions and blankets are just dust collectors unless you are washing them as often as the sheets.

Sparklycrystals · 11/01/2020 19:28

Hate square plates, bowls, mugs etc. But the worst thing is cutlery with plastic handles. I can’t help imagining all the particles of old food trapped underneath the join 🤮

kateandme · 11/01/2020 19:28

Progress2019 ikea used to.

o0 · 11/01/2020 19:28

I like colourful plates.

Couldn’t find any I loved at a price I could afford so we now eat off side plates (actually ended up preferring this size) that are all different colours with dogs on them.

You lot would hate them. Grin

This is one of them and the others are different colours with different dogs.

Sparklycrystals · 11/01/2020 19:29

Oh and glass chopping boards! They make my teeth feel funny

ifIwerenotanandroid · 11/01/2020 19:29

White, definitely. And round. Got married in the 80's & we were given octagonal white crockery - never used it.

willowmelangell · 11/01/2020 19:29

I collect Alfred Meakin Art Deco and Art Nouveau table ware. It is absolutely ridiculous the amount of Edwardian soup tureens with ladles that I own, Also sauce pots, jugs and graduated platters. I love them. Can only get them out on big dinners though.
One day I just thought, blow this saving for special occasions. We eat off Edwardian china, all day, every day. The cats eat off Edwardian china(different set).

We do drink from normal mugs. Should my life ever depend on serving up tea(made in pot) and cake on Edwardian matching set, well, I am sorted.

HopeItComesWithBatteries · 11/01/2020 19:30

It depends.

Normally you can’t go wrong with Villeroy & Boch New Wave, so yes, a stylish white.

However, in different lights/ seasons/ climates a bit of variation is good.

For an evening/ Christmas buffet then colourful food can look very good on black plates.

And if you’re in a sunnier climate with a brighter light then something with a touch of blue can be very appealing.

Horses for courses.

😊

I have white large oval plates and white regular round plates .

I used to have black square plates from The Pier (remember them?) in the late 80s .
More recently , I had some clear glass plates (Ikea)

I was watching old Eastenders , James Willmott Brown served up coffee in those flat dark green cups with the gold rim (white inside) .... I was all Grin I had those A set of two cups+saucers +plates for leisurely coffee and croissants breakfasts

kateandme · 11/01/2020 19:30

we went to square when the round ones started to get ridiculously small.or had a massive rim and tiny plate bit where the food should go.
and we still struggle to find bowls of a decent bloody size and depth.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 11/01/2020 19:31

Those dog plates are gorgeous, but I wouldn't want to eat off them.

eaglejulesk · 11/01/2020 19:34

Mine are blue and white. I find plain white a bit boring, could tolerate cream though.

AllergicToAMop · 11/01/2020 19:37

Anything can be crockery 😂

Let me introduce you The Shoe who could!
Believe in yourself! You can be anything!

Alsohuman · 11/01/2020 19:39

Our plates are square. They’re also white. Does the colour cancel out the shape?

AmelieTaylor · 11/01/2020 19:40

@miljea so did I and my mum I said tills using them!

Mine are all white. Nice white, not school issue white.

Alsohuman · 11/01/2020 19:42

@o0, where did you get those? I love them.
