There And Back Again Lane in Bristol is the best.

Wineandpyjamas · 10/01/2020 17:26

Perhaps not the best but there’s a tiny hamlet in Somerset called Nimlet and that’s definitely the cutest. Makes me smile every time I see the sign.

VetOnCall · 10/01/2020 17:26

I've been to Hell, in Norway, you pass it on the way to Trondheim from the airport.

Also been to Intercourse and Bird In Hand Pennsylvania, both are in Amish Country.

Bill Bryson often writes about place names in his books and there are some great ones. I always remember the story about the city in New Mexico which changed its name to Truth or Consequences to win a radio show contest Grin

There’s a tube station in Brussels called Arts Lois in French - the Flemish translation reads

Got to appreciate the classic intersection of Ham and Sandwich (which routinely gets its sign stolen!).

FlyingNorth · 10/01/2020 17:33

As does Chipshop, in Devon.
I once drove through Chipshop looking for the Chipshop ...
My personal faves are Thorngumbald (Lincolnshire) and Wigwig (Shropshire).

MaJoady · 10/01/2020 17:34

I used to live in a village that had a lane going into the village called Slash Lane and one going out at the other side called Flesh Hovel Lane. The village was perfectly nice, I promise!

Takeittotheboss · 10/01/2020 17:34

I spent some of my childhood in Outer Sheep's Bottom.

I'm outed for sure now!🤐
