How do you clean your loo!

Aibu to wonder how everyone cleans their toilet?! I'm more talking about the seat, the lid and under. Do you use a cloth you then wash or a disposable cloth or wipe? How do you get in all the books and crannies to get it clean? It's job I hate doing and I can never get it as clean as others.

I don't know, I'm going to ask our cleaner.

I clean it with disinfectant on loo roll and then flush it. It’s also bleached on a daily basis.

Cleaner does it but she used my stuff and I don't have any disposable wipes in the house!
If I do it I use a cloth and then wash - I collect all the cleaning cloths and do a weekly 90 degree wash for them - it keeps the washing machine clean too - stops the black stuff building up

I use a white cloth which gets boil washed for most of it, but then kitchen towel for under the seat and rim which gets thrown away.

I use Zoflora and bleach

I tried it myself over Christmas (cleaners on holiday) just using bleach and a brush, it didn’t look the same as when they do it.

I feel like a spoilt arse saying I don’t clean my house but actually don’t think there’s any shame in it! Paying someone else to do something they’re more skilled at than you is good for the economy and our cleaner is a very successful single mum who has built a lucrative business! Good for her 👍🏻

The handheld steamer bit of the steamer is by far the best way to clean a toilet. Just water, gets into all the books and crannies and smells clean rather than having a scent.

It's a smelly job, cleaners and bleach just don't do a good enough job when you try steaming and realise

I spray with bleach spray, wipe with loo roll which is then flushed, then put toilet duck round the rim.

Yes I use a hard sponge I usually wash all the cloths together after a big clean.
Boiling water washing up liquid and bleach. If it has bad stains try the astonish anti mould remover.
I swear it makes tiles grouting and stainless steel look new.

Surely it bleach and toilet paper won't scrub a toilet. Scrub dry spray. I like mine to shine.

Spray with anti-bac and wipe over with toilet roll, then flush. I also use bleach every few days (under the rim) and have a spray bottle of bleach/water mix which I use when it’s particularly gross!

Which it regularly is with three boys plus DH but apparently only I’m bothered about a clean toilet

But if you want to do it with cleaners. 2 cloths. Bucket of hot soapy water. Wet cloth, wash top, body, back of lid, front of lid, seat, under seat, rim. Wash all the outside of the bowl and around the back. Wash flush handle last. Chuck bucket of water into toilet and wash the inside (with brush or whatever).

Use dry 2nd cloth and do the same again, dry off and buffing to a shine. If you want extra shine, use some kitchen roll and buff off last.

@EmeraldShamrock which parts are you scrubbing? What’s getting dirty enough to need scrubbing?

Not trying to be goady, honest! Just mine gets foul but I never scrub. Skids get a bleach-soaked pad of toilet roll left on the mess for a few mins then flushed.

We have very soft water so never get limescale.

Okay, this thread has got me worried about what cloth the cleaner uses and what she does after. Seriously though if it were me I'd be using toilet paper and flushing it.

Loo roll for me too. Disinfectant on loo roll and then flush it :)

I use a toilet brush (gasp) for inside the loo and under the rim with Ecover toilet duck.
Toilet brush gets soaked in bleach every now and then.

For the seat, bowl, handle etc. I use an eco-friendly cleaning spray and wipe with loo roll or kitchen roll. I use washable cloths for everything else, but not the loo.

Only ever use bleach if someone in the house has a tummy bug.

I can't understand how anyone would think sticking their hand/a cloth down the loo is hygenic. You end up with germy rubber gloves hanging about and a cloth that needs a very hot wash.

Incidently, bleach should only ever be used with cold water. For a start hot water stops the bleach working, and also releases nasty bleach fumes into the air.

I spray the entire thing. All lids base and bowl with bathroom cleaner. Scrub with sponge which gets binned after and a micro fibre cloth that I use to wipe over which goes in the wash. Then bleach down the loo and a fresh rim block

Mine gets a good scrub with toilet cleaner and a brush each night and a limescale tablet once a week since the water in my area is so hard it builds up under the waterline constantly. Never understood the MN horror over toilet brushes surely a manky cloth and your hand down the loo is worse than a designated brush that lives down the side of the loo

@ActualHornist I scrub the lid top and bottom, especially in the hinges, outside and inside of the bowl and cystrin. I have an old toothbrush for the hinges.
Once a week. It takes a wipe the other days.

Inbetween cleans I use a spray. I like making my own, water, bicarb and an essential oil like rosemary that is a natural disinfectant.

I save up last leg kicthen sponges and other clothes, boil wash and keep separate to use in the loo.

No bleach and usually no proprietory sprays, but whatever cleaning fluid we happen to have, or my homemade spray, starting at the top, handle cistern, outside of the loo, lid, seat rim then inside.

If the inside needs help I will start with soda crystals in for a while before I start. A 'magic sponge' can work miracles (I cut mine into about 3 pieces and get round the u-bend as far as I can go). They are one of the few proper cleaning items I buy.

I'm the other way round. Hate the bloody brushes, cesspit - literally! My hands and cleaning clothes can be washed and aren't germed 5 minutes after the loo has been cleaned. A toilet brush sits and festers quietly!
