How do you clean your loo!

newdecadenewname · 09/01/2020 11:44

Aibu to wonder how everyone cleans their toilet?! I'm more talking about the seat, the lid and under. Do you use a cloth you then wash or a disposable cloth or wipe? How do you get in all the books and crannies to get it clean? It's job I hate doing and I can never get it as clean as others.

Spray and wipe lid, seat, top surfaces and pedestal with kitchen using kitchen roll which is binned.

Loo cleaner down bowl, if it still needs a scrub after soaking then I fold some loo roll into a wad and attach it to a toilet Duck branded handle thing which has a clip in the end to hold disposable loo cleaner pad and scrub with that.

veryvery · 09/01/2020 19:11

With anti bac spray not kitchen!

stripeypillowcase · 09/01/2020 19:15

and what's the deal with sprays?
we don't use them as they set of my asthma.
why don't more people use a bucket and soapy water?

veryvery · 09/01/2020 19:22

Quickness, basically. Can keep it close by so handy for a quick clean. Lots of different types suitable. Some more eco friendly than others. Could probably make your own if you wanted.

Skyejuly · 09/01/2020 19:23

I prefer to use a bucket and soapy water if poss.

Chuffit · 09/01/2020 19:26

I spray the cistern, loo, seat and the floor around it with a mix of Milton's and water, then wipe with kitchen roll.
The seats are detachable, so once a week they get taken off and soaked in a bleach / water mix.
I use toilet cleaner and a brush inside the pan daily.
Once a week while the seats are soaking, I spray shaving foam on the floor around the loo and leave that a few hours before mopping up.

ForestYeti · 09/01/2020 19:26

Disposable wipes

dancemusicsexromance · 09/01/2020 19:53

My loo seat clips off, I dunk it in bleach in the bath, spray the rest of it and bleach the bowl.
Use kitchen roll for round the back/pipes etc.

I can’t work out which ones are wind ups now Grin

WaggleWiggle · 09/01/2020 21:10

I use flushable disinfectant toilet wipes all over it everywhere except the inner bowl. Then I use a duck brush (the flushable ones) on the inner bowl. Finally, I squirt toilet duck down inside. I think the flushable stuff isn’t eco friendly but I’m not carrying wet poo-particle covered cloths downstairs and washing them in a machine. Hygiene first.

Skyejuly · 09/01/2020 21:14

Why are some people so scared of toilet cloths?

ClientListQueen · 09/01/2020 21:21

I just use a bit of loo roll and some eco spray, maybe a cloth if there's one about (I use old flannels for cleaning)
Quick scrub around the inside with a (clean!) loo brush and whatever is to hand, often use shampoo as I no longer use it and have loads
There's only me, the toilet doesn't need massive amounts of cleaning

fivecupsoftea · 09/01/2020 21:25

Do you steam clean the inside, or just the outside?

VerbenaGirl · 09/01/2020 21:28

Spray well with diluted Zoflora then wipe over with loo roll. I couldn’t bear to use a cloth and have to deal with that afterwards.

JaneDarcy · 09/01/2020 21:28

So how do you all get rid of the dirty lime scale? Scrubbing (yes with a toilet brush!) doesn't work. Toilet duck - two different kinds doesn't work. Well, it works but only on the bit it lands on. As it spreads out due to water/gravity it stops working

arixo · 09/01/2020 21:29

Harpic in the black bottle & Astonish toilet tablets

Chuffit · 09/01/2020 21:41

There you go.
I use shaving foam because it absorbs odours and dirt.
If you have a tiled or lino floor, spray foam ( not gel ) around the base of the pan where it sits on the floor and leave a couple of hours, preferably overnight if you can, then the mop / wipe up.
Wonderful if you have small children, particularly boys using the loo as it absorbs the urine and its stale odour.
Give it a go, seriously.

FaceLikeAFlittin · 09/01/2020 21:49

Chuffit

Re the shaving foam, any particular brand you prefer to use?

Genuinely interested, I need to try this. What happens if it seeps under? Will it just liquify and ooze out?

Chuffit · 09/01/2020 22:05

Supermarket own brand is as effective as any other @FaceLikeAFlittin
It will completely dissolve and can be wiped with toilet tissue if it gets underneath.
I tend to spray liberally and lightly spread it with my fingers ( gloves on ) around the floor.
If you haven't got a detachable loo seat, spray some round the fittings / hinges of that too.

FaceLikeAFlittin · 09/01/2020 22:10

I’m going to try this at the weekend, thank you Chuffit

Chuffit · 09/01/2020 22:16

Don't be shy with the foam, you can't use too much. If it's the first time, use the entire can if needs be. Use less on further applications Grin
I use a small amount now as i do it weekly, the first time i went beserk with it and my loo looked like it had been hit by a snowstorm.

WelshCustardCream · 09/01/2020 22:18

My DH cleans ours with a can of coca cola. It's sparkling!

arixo · 09/01/2020 22:21

I empty the water leave the harpic limescale remover overnight then scrub it. It comes up sparkling

Antihop · 09/01/2020 22:33

I'm depressed to read how many people use something once and throw away.

I use ecover toilet cleaner and a toilet brush for inside, plus a cloth and dettol power and pure for everywhere else.

I'll probably shock some people but I don't bother with rubber gloves! I just wash my hands very well after.

WellErrr · 09/01/2020 22:34

I’m going to try that chuffit! Grin thanks!
