How do you clean your loo!

Aibu to wonder how everyone cleans their toilet?! I'm more talking about the seat, the lid and under. Do you use a cloth you then wash or a disposable cloth or wipe? How do you get in all the books and crannies to get it clean? It's job I hate doing and I can never get it as clean as others.

I use DH’s toothbrush to get rid of those hard to shift pooh stripes. Toilet comes up a treat.

TeaAndStrumpets · 09/01/2020 23:10

Interesting about using shaving foam to absorb grot from the floor.

Does nobody use sawdust these days?

TeaAndStrumpets · 09/01/2020 23:12

Skinny you are a domestic goddess!

LegArmpits · 09/01/2020 23:36

I've literally never ever buffed, steamed or scrubbed my bog and yet it looks the same as the day we bought it.

draughtycatflap · 09/01/2020 23:52

I nuke it from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

PatsySmyth · 09/01/2020 23:53

I have trained my children to do it.

DustyMaiden · 09/01/2020 23:58

Remove it put in bath, spray with viakal, rinse with hot water.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/01/2020 08:47

why don't more people use a bucket and soapy water? Floorboards in an old house. I like my ceilings Smile

EvilPea · 10/01/2020 09:03

Pump the water away with a toilet brush, put toilet cleaner round rim. Scrub with brush.

Astonish with bleach for under the Seat and the hinges. Scrub with old toothbrush if it’s bad.
Wipe the rest of the toilet (base, lid, cistern lid) with any generic cleaner and kitchen roll, wipe off astonish / cif. Throw kitchen roll away.

A cloth is better, but I don’t have enough to warrant a boil wash frequently enough. Loo roll breaks up in the hinges.

Where does all the fluff come from in the bathroom? All those little bits that stick to everything as your trying to clean??!

galison · 10/01/2020 10:15

Toilet claner round the bowl, scrubbed with a silicon loo brush to which no poo sticks. Wipe around the cistern, handle (where the most accessible germs will be), seat and rim in that order with a cloth. Cloth goes in washing machine with other cloths when I have enough.

I do have a cleaner but I can't imagine leaving it between visits for a clean. I also make sure there is no skids before she comes. I don't expect her to clean up our shite.

stripeypillowcase · 10/01/2020 10:30

but that's not an issue when using a damp cloth? Confused

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/01/2020 11:44

Have you never accidentally slopped a bucket?

adaline · 10/01/2020 11:45

A damp cloth doesn't slop tons of water all over your floor which can cause quite serious damage depending on your house.

Swinesinsleepingbags · 10/01/2020 13:26

@WaggleWiggle there is no such thing as flushable wipes, even if they say so on the packet they add to the fatbergs and are bad for the environment. Wipes are also full of plastic.

Namestranger · 10/01/2020 13:32

This might be a stupid question but why does a loo need bleaching every day? Unless you're immunocompromised or something. I have never at any point in my life bleached it every day and I've had about 2 stomach bugs in that time 🤷

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/01/2020 13:34

It doesn't. Really, nothing in the normal round ever does!

LakieLady · 10/01/2020 13:37

Outside: spray with anti-bac cleaner, wipe over with microfibre cloth that is only used on the lav and gets washed weekly

Inside: flush and brush, esp under the rim, flush again. Then squirt with Harpic Power Plus, which is the only thing that keeps the limescale at bay, and bleach on alternate days.

I do this every morning, last thing before leaving for work. By the time I get home, the bleach/Harpic has done it's job. When I miss a day, the limescale in the bottom of the pan is visible the next morning.

Our water is so hard it seems to struggle to stay liquid.

Thankfully, there are only the two of us and DP doesn't piss everywhere, like some men.

adaline · 10/01/2020 13:39

It doesn't! We do ours weekly.

speakout · 10/01/2020 13:40

I have a detachable toilet seat too.
I take it off, pop it in the top drawer of the dishwasher and run a hot cycle.

Comes up like new.

PlomBear · 10/01/2020 13:42

I buy new lavatories every week so I don’t have to clean them.

stripeypillowcase · 10/01/2020 13:43

it doesn't. I don't even have bleach in the house. just soap/shampoo/washing up liquid. maybe a descaler if you are in a hard water area.

TeaAndStrumpets · 10/01/2020 13:44

Plom I move every week because my whole house is filthy.

LadyGuffers · 10/01/2020 14:05

You are a lot of dirty buggers.

I pour brandy all over the toilet once a week and set fire to it like a big, porcelein Christmas pudding. Once the flames go out - the toilet is clean!

WaggleWiggle · 10/01/2020 14:46

Swines In sleeping bags, yes, I know. But until someone invents one that biodegrades, I won’t be putting poo covered cloths in my washing machine.

BarbeDwyer · 10/01/2020 14:48

Squat in the garden instead to avoid having things like a loo brush and bleach.
