How do you clean your loo!

Aibu to wonder how everyone cleans their toilet?! I'm more talking about the seat, the lid and under. Do you use a cloth you then wash or a disposable cloth or wipe? How do you get in all the books and crannies to get it clean? It's job I hate doing and I can never get it as clean as others.

I have a toilet brush! I scrub under the rim with bleach with it. I don't get why they are such a bad thing! No way am I putting my hand down there with a cloth!

nespressowoo · 09/01/2020 12:14

I use a cloth for everything else around the toilet

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/01/2020 12:15

Disposable sponges are so, so bad for the environment. I seriously can't believe people are using a plastic sponge once and throwing it away. No wonder we're in the state we're in... Yes... but there are other things that are far worse/just as bad.

Lots of things I had never heard of, let alone used - like the bead things in facial cleaners. It really isn't worth anyones while to post a "Well I never!" post, as it is almost certain that they do something the poster/s they are sighing at consider to be equally as bad!

EmeraldShamrock · 09/01/2020 12:15

I had a toilet it was more for decoration it match the other items in the bathroom.
After DS christening someone used it and put it back in its holder full of poo. Envy not envy.
Never again.

bobstersmum · 09/01/2020 12:17

Yep, bleach or disinfectant and loo roll here, wiped down every day as we have three males in our house! Couldn't use a cloth, the thought of poo grains in the washing machine makes me shudder.

EmeraldShamrock · 09/01/2020 12:17

Toilet brush obviously above ⏫

GiveHerHellFromUs · 09/01/2020 12:17

The handheld steamer bit of the steamer is by far the best way to clean a toilet

I knew there'd be some bizarre responses on here but this one has got me stumped Grin

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/01/2020 12:18

No way am I putting my hand down there with a cloth! I have never really understood that! OK, I live rurally, in very close proximity to all kinds of dirt and poo, but is it really that bad?

Scrub the worst bits with the scrubby side of a sponge, flush, rinsing sponge at the same time. Then scrub the rest of the loo. Nothing nasty need ever touch your hands, especially if you do use bleach and / or disinfectant!

notaregularmom · 09/01/2020 12:20

I put bleach around my toilet every night before I go bed I get up flush it and the the inside is done. I use bleach spray and antibacterial wipes to clean everything else.

Sparklingbrook · 09/01/2020 12:22

Mine come off completely. So they get a complete spray with the shower head, quick wipe with anti bac, dry and put back on.

Loo brush and a bit of toilet duck for the rest.

It's really not that interesting. Grin

speakout · 09/01/2020 12:24

Spray and cotton cloth.
Touched bits are cleaned first, handle, cistern etc, working dow to seat, rim then pedestal.
Good squirt of bleach directed at inner rim.
Cotton cloth is given a hot wash.

TeaAndStrumpets · 09/01/2020 12:25

My loo seat came with instructions to wash with warm soapy water, rinse and dry. I use three cotton cloths. The cloths get chucked in a hot wash with the pads from my steam cleaner. I have never used bleach on my loo seat!

EmmiJay · 09/01/2020 12:25

First Marigolds on! I'll bleach the inside and use those toilet anti-bac wipes to clean the rest of the loo. The toilet cleany stuff just for the bubbles when I flush🤗

ScreamingLadySutch · 09/01/2020 12:26

@GinDaddy Grin

Dedicated loo cloth (that might be stored behind on the pipe). I go from least germy to most germy. Using bathroom cleaner with bleach I start on the cistern and handle, then outside ceramics, then seat, then back of seat, then top of loo and finally, bowl. Finish with brush and Harpic.

Flush, rinsing cloth in the flush, more Harpic and dip the cloth in that before squeezing out and final wipe. No germs survive that.

Sparkly loo.

Another good hack is periodically pour a full kettle of boiling water down the loo and a good squirt of dishwasher, and leave that overnight. That dissolves the stuff in the u bend.

It is also important to teach the boys in the house some etiquette. I do ask them to sit down to pee to save me work (and even husband gets it). No man became less masculine by sitting down to pee.

(Husband also taught the boys this one) after a poo, look down into the bowl. If there is a skid mark, take loo roll and wipe it down before flushing.

The loos are in pretty good nick in the Sutch hovel!

HowlsMovingBungalow · 09/01/2020 12:28

Bleach. Toliet brush in the bowl and under rim. Bleach lid, seat and under seat and leave 5 mins, wipe off with loo roll chuck in loo and flush.

goingroundagain · 09/01/2020 12:28

Bleach in bowl, use toilet brush ( sorry MN) then I use some lemon cleaner in hot water in the sink to wipe over with a flat sponge. I do all surfaces including the outside of the bowl. I never clean my clothes but rinse with hot and replace every few months.

WeeSleekitTimerousMoosey · 09/01/2020 12:29

I use an old scouring sponge no longer fit for dishes and an old toothbrush for any awkward bits. Wash seat and lid with Fairy liquid and hot water, bleach down the bog itself.

EmmiJay · 09/01/2020 12:30

Those who use toilet brushes; HOW are you not scared of toilet water splash back?? My stomach is in knots just typing this😭

HowlsMovingBungalow · 09/01/2020 12:32

What water splash back?

I can't get obsessed with toliet cleaning - toliet brushes do the job.

Damntheman · 09/01/2020 12:33

I got over any issues with toilet water after that time I had to put my hand the whole way in to retrieve my son's absolute favourite marble. :o

Skyejuly · 09/01/2020 12:36

Maybe I'm not squeamish but it doesn't bother me (toilet germs). Throwing sponges after a wipe is more scary

SisterAgatha · 09/01/2020 12:37

Top down. So that the “cleanest”/less pooey/bits you touch with your hands are cleaned first, and never touch a cleaned part with a first cloth.

So handle, cistern, seat lid, seat, back of seat, rim, and finally the sides with a different cloth. Bleach bath the clothes after.

TeaAndStrumpets · 09/01/2020 12:37

Damntheman Wine

SisterAgatha · 09/01/2020 12:37

and never touch a cleaned part with a dirty cloth.

WeeSleekitTimerousMoosey · 09/01/2020 12:41

HOW are you not scared of toilet water splash back??

Eh? I've never given splash back a thought, I'm not scrubbing that hard.

I only get toilet water on me if I have to stick my hand down the toilet to alleviate a blockage, usually involving shit. It happens, I just wash my hands after, no biggie.
