See link. News just announced.

www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2020/01/08/prince-harry-meghan-step-back-senior-members-royal-family-couple/

It does sound like they might be escaping from the public scrutiny and online abuse.

I also think the prejudice against MM is to do with her nationality and not her ethnicity.

I think the combination of mixed race, American and actress sent some people over the edge entirely.

IrmaFayLear · 09/01/2020 18:09

I don't think the Queen "makes known" anything. Have you seen a quote by her, any tweets, perhaps a segment in her Christmas speech?

PortiaCastis · 09/01/2020 18:10

The Queen has not issued a statement so a lot of bollocks being spewed

lilgreen · 09/01/2020 18:11

Yes, where are the Buckingham Palace responses coming from? Nothing official?

TheMustressMhor · 09/01/2020 18:12

Ah yes, LaurieMarlow - that whole actress thing, which clearly makes her unfit to marry PH.

Sussex's and palace statements in full

lilgreen · 09/01/2020 18:16

Yeah so nothing about disappointment!

annualleavepurchase · 09/01/2020 18:18

@lilgreen exactly, I was linking as a pp said nothing official had been released.

MissEliza · 09/01/2020 18:19

Did the Sussexes wish Kate a happy birthday via Instagram. I wouldn't give a shit but the MailOnline seems to be implying the rest of the royal family did except for them.

astralweaks · 09/01/2020 18:22

They did.

astralweaks · 09/01/2020 18:23

I think the Queen will be sorely disappointed. It goes without saying.

annualleavepurchase · 09/01/2020 18:25

@astralweaks of course, but bring privately disappointed and making something 'known' are very different.

doritosdip · 09/01/2020 18:26

Pretty sure I saw Mail Online screenshot the message (2 emojis at the end of the Sussex post iirc)

clairefrasier · 09/01/2020 18:26

So if the RF are not disappointed then there’s no problem. Let them all work it out.
Meghan and Harry need to step out of the limelight a bit. There will be some sort of negotiation. Maybe they will cut down to 50% funding by RF whilst they only perform 50% of there duties. (Hopefully, it will be more successful than the Brexit negotiations ! )
I can’t see why they can’t get together and come to a compromise. This doesn’t have to be an all or nothing scenario.

If there is no room for compromise then Harry is effectively being controlled by his position in the RF ie. do all of this and act in this manner, man up and put up with press whilst they bully your wife and eventually your child. His mother died whilst being chased by the press, I can see why he would have a problem with the level of negative attention his wife is now getting.

astralweaks · 09/01/2020 18:27

Too much nitpicking.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 09/01/2020 18:31

They just added a tweet to the Kensington Royal wishes to Kate

RhythimIsRhythim · 09/01/2020 18:34

Ooh, Real Housewives ahoy.

Harry and Meghan resigning?
CurlyWurlyTwirly · 09/01/2020 18:35

Meghan only has 4 patronages.
She was at the National Theatre yesterday; I guess that one is prestigious enough.

I suspect they won’t be able to keep the «Royal» in their brand name.
The Royal Collection does flog stuff but it’s classy & usually homewares not clothes.

CunningOperative · 09/01/2020 18:35

How gross that the Queen makes known that she’s “disappointed” that her grandson’s wife doesn’t want to work for the family business, but not disappointed that her son has been accused of sexually abusing numerous teenage girls.

So true.

Also I don't really understand this attitude that Meghan should put up and shut up just because Diana, Fergie et al were treated even worse.
Good for her and if she can have the best of both worlds then even better.

LakieLady · 09/01/2020 18:37

Good luck to them.

I hope when Betty Windsor shuffles off, the rest of them follow suit.

Having a royal family at all is an archaic affair, and the sooner we're a republic, the better.

Amylox · 09/01/2020 18:48

The Queen has not issued a statement so a lot of bollocks being spewed

"The palace" has issued a statement and given verbal briefings to royal correspondents. "The palace" also updates to some political figures who leaked exactly what was said.

"The Palace" is the Queen. Well it's her staff speaking on her behalf with her authorisation. And believe me nobody attributes false quotes to "the palace".

malylis · 09/01/2020 18:52

Of course they do!

Lycidas · 09/01/2020 18:52

Piers Morgan frothing at the mouth makes this dull drama a little worthwhile.

lilgreen · 09/01/2020 18:53

Interesting hearing atom Bradby(friend to William and Harry) on ITV news. He said M&H had heard about streamlining the firm while they were away and decided to find a way out. They were asked to put some ideas on paper but H refused because they get leaked. There was a verbal discussion but it got leaked to the press so they went public.
