The tone of the coverage of the Reynhard Sinaga case. *Title edited by MNHQ*

Just watching tonight’s news. I do not wish to minimise the trauma suffered by the victims of Reynhard Sinaga, but I’m really struggling with the reporting of the case; even from female journalists. It seems so full of empathy and gravitas, when so many female victims go unheard.

I don't like this thread. It's horrific what those men have been through. Show some compassion.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 06/01/2020 23:44

AutumnRose1 I'm afraid there was. Two men against the victim. It is horrific. But the victim was gay and an escort, so he's not the right kind of victim.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 06/01/2020 23:44

Completely agree @emilybrontescorsett

Notagainnnn · 06/01/2020 23:45

When in recent years has there been a rapist who has raped 190 women?

This is a huge case! And huge because lots of the victims don't know what happened to them! They need to get this HUGE story out there so hopefully it will trigger the memory in some people or give some the strength to come forward.
Men will need coaxing out of their shells more so than women I believe because of the stigma, many will be straight men!

MustardScreams · 06/01/2020 23:45

No one isn’t being compassionate? You can be compassionate and hold an opinion, the whole point of a forum is to make a point and discuss it. Or must we all be silent in case someone is upset at typed words?

Grumpydad1540 · 06/01/2020 23:46

I apologise to the OP if I’ve read it wrong but what I read initially was “I’m annoyed men have been raped in a greater number than wonan...why should they have all the credit”...as if the make rape didn’t matter or that the OP wishes more women had been raped, just to stop men getting one over on them.

Greta1985 · 06/01/2020 23:48

I also noticed the ‘heterosexual’ comments in the reports and thought they would never say that about a woman. I don’t think anyone here is saying raping men is ok, but some of the reporting is awful.

Grumpydad1540 · 06/01/2020 23:49

And the OPs position is awful

AutumnRose1 · 06/01/2020 23:50

Not “ Men will need coaxing out of their shells more so than women I believe because of the stigma, many will be straight men!”

So if it happens to gay men, it matters less?

Btw sounds like you also read the nonsensical title but not the post.

Jamie I didn’t know that, but at least there’s not two of these cases, I was thinking, what a similarity.

aroundtheworldyet · 06/01/2020 23:52

John worboys anyone?

Grumpydad1540 · 06/01/2020 23:52

I made that clear...I read the thread title, not the hundred and thirty six posts below supporting her mysandric view... i have now gone back and read them and I stand by my view...am I being unreasonable to think that I wish Britain’s most profilings rapist had raped more women than men” does no favours for either sex

Grumpydad1540 · 06/01/2020 23:53

Prolific not profilings

GoldfishRampage · 06/01/2020 23:53

Does anyone genuinely believe that if the police had the exact same evidence as they did in this horrific case but that the victims had been female that the investigation wouldn't have been pursued to the same extent?

Does anyone genuinely believe that if the victims had been female the media coverage would have been less than it would have been in this case?

CharlottesPleb · 06/01/2020 23:54

It seems so full of empathy and gravitas, when so many female victims go unheard.

If you think rapes of men get more press and sympathy in our society you are fucking demented.

Cohle · 06/01/2020 23:56

You sound awful OP. I really don't think airing views like this helps the feminist cause at all really.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 06/01/2020 23:56

Is this really what some men think? That because it’s possible for a woman or a gay man to enjoy having a penis shoved in one orafice or another they somehow have some evolutionary distress-reducing neurological pathways if it should it occur without their consent?!

PSA no, they really don’t!

OP posts:
rudolfsquiffy · 06/01/2020 23:56

The focus seems to be on the perpetrator for having raped so many when the focus should be on the victims, not just this case but all rape cases and we know from the figures so many women rape victims don't get any day in court.

Notagainnnn · 06/01/2020 23:57

I did read the post. And no I never said it doesn't matter if they are gay. I said straight men will need more coaxing to come forward because they may wrongly believe that if they come out they will be labeled gay or accused like many women are, of lying or being drunk. Well and being secretly gay.

Gay men are also very deserving of sympathy for any horrific crimes from another person or persons. Their choice of sexual partner will less likely come into question should they be openly gay.

Everyone deserves sympathy and support. I was raped by my ex and I didn't tell anyone for 3 years. I was too scared to come forward because I was his wife and I believed it was my duty

fairfat40 · 06/01/2020 23:59

My son is gay and I worry terribly about predatory men, just as I would if I had a daughter.

These are terrible attacks, indicative of pornified, rapey culture that should be condemned.

But I’m sorry, to the posters saying ‘this has never happened to woman’, ... seriously? It appends all the fucking time. I can’t be the only ones with at least half a dozen friends who’ve been raped and not reported it - see cypress for a reference of why.

june2007 · 07/01/2020 00:00

It,s not a competition, Lets face it rape victims do not always get the justice they deserve and perpetrators don,t always get the punishment they deserve. Gay/straight/man/women can still victims and perpetrators and should get equal treatment Don,t be bitter if one gets a better sentence be pleased that it has worked out for the victims in that case..

aroundtheworldyet · 07/01/2020 00:02

If this man hadn’t have been stupid enough to record it then yer man who beat the shit out of him would probably be on license for GBH.
That’s no different for a woman

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 07/01/2020 00:02

No one is asking what the male victims were wearing/ drinking/ behaving like.

Not that they should of course. But they fucking do ask these questions of female victims.

aroundtheworldyet · 07/01/2020 00:04

No they don’t ask these questions if it’s all recorded

That’s the difference

I can quote certainly say that a man has probably raped more men that this dude.
They just weren’t stupid enough to record it,

Yes, they do.
