To NEVER want to visit burgerking again

contentedsoul · 05/01/2020 22:11

Was my birthday last week.
As a treat I said I would love a Burgerking meal. We virtually never eat fastfood. Maybe have 3-4 a year. Son has plenty be we usually wait until we're home.
But we do often go out for walks and enjoy pub grub.

Anyway, off we went... My partner told me to sit with our son and went off to order.

3 meals all with regular fries plus son wanted ice cream.
£20.73!!
By the time we had removed the packaging I was dumbstruck as to what we actually got. The burgers didn't come in the sesame baps, the regular fries was a complete joke. You could have emptied all three into a standard coffee mug!! Plus it was freezing cold inside.
Complete rip off.
The week before we had gone out for a walk and decided to eat out. 3 meals, plated with clean cutlery came to less!!

I thought convenience food was supposedly cheap!!
Bugger that, It'll be a very long time before I eat in either McD's, BurgerKing or KFC they have all become too greedy. When all is said and done the food really is junk, its crap, so why the high cost?

@happycamper11 Bengal isn't 'in India'. It's a geopolitical region comprised of approx 2/3 Bangladesh and 1/3 NE Indian states. A quick google might have helped you.

Never forget vising family near Meadowhall. There is a cinema and restaurant complex there. The Burger King was shocking. Food all over the floor and terrible service

GrannyBags · 06/01/2020 15:32

Stopped at BK on the M62 on NYE. They have the interactive pre-order boards so people were doing that. Trouble is, you then pay when you place your order, so you can’t walk out when you have been stood around waiting to collect your order for 20 minutes because the two people on duty are working at the speed of a snail. Nice trick BK! One guy in the queue was suggesting we sent out for champagne as we thought we might still be there at midnight!

proseccosparkles · 06/01/2020 15:48

Burger King used to be nice, I have noticed it has really gone downhill lately i'm sure the bacon double cheeseburger used to be literally double the size back in the day!

Overpriced stale buns and lukewarm burgers last time we went. No wonder they have closed so many branches

Haffiana · 06/01/2020 16:07

Meh. I have personally fed 2500 on one fish and 2.5 chips.

Really, you lot just eat too much these days.

Nikhedonia · 06/01/2020 16:12

I'm starting to think the MN fish from the chippy is the new MN chicken; can feed a family of four for a month. Are these places serving up sperm whales or something?

Was thinking exactly the same as I read through the thread.

Back in the 90s a big whopper with cheese was a treat (lots of mayo and fresh tomato, fresh bun, nice grilled beef), but BK these days is pure sadness

Now you know

happycamper11 · 06/01/2020 16:26

@similarminimer are you talking about the bat of begal, which is a coastline? West Bengal is indeed a state of India. I am pretty familiar, no need to google.

LagunaBubbles · 06/01/2020 16:37

Even when fat greedy cunt exDH was here, and 2 more DD's, a large was enough for all six of them

Nope, not buying that at all. There is no way on earth one fish supper, no matter how "large" would feed 6 people. Why say it? It's like competitive undereating.

LagunaBubbles · 06/01/2020 16:37

I still miss Whimpy.

GrannyBags · 06/01/2020 16:48

@LagunaBubbles Wimpy was the best.

Zaphodsotherhead · 06/01/2020 16:53

Meh. I have personally fed 2500 on one fish and 2.5 chips

Yes - sorry - I do know Bangladesh and India are now different countries and have been for a long time.

But as a poster up-thread stated, the majority of what we call Indian takeaways in the UK were set up by (often Silheti) Bangladeshis who migrated in the sixties and seventies. They adapted food for the British taste and the cuisine was generally labelled ‘Indian’ because it was easier for people here. So food became less hot, more meat, sweeter sauces.

If you eat with Bengali friends in their home, you will hopefully be given one of the fish curries - hot, often a dry curry, or a really spicy mutton curry, red and fiery.

Indian food varies hugely, so North Indian food is very different from South Indian, and within those areas, you’ll find a myriad of regional differences. I love food from Kerala, often flavoured with amazingly unique flavour of curry leaves; I love the fresh coconut chutneys, with iddlies for breakfast and dosas rolled, packed with spiced potatoes and vegetables.

I don’t know as much about Northern Indian food but would love to find out.

bookmum08 · 06/01/2020 17:37

Wimpy still exists. There is two branches near me. They aren't that great though

Nikhedonia · 06/01/2020 18:23

Why say it? It's like competitive undereating.

Because people love to bullshit on the internet?

Why kind of business model would it be for the fish and chip shop? 1 large meal between 6 people? Come on now.

BondGate · 06/01/2020 18:31

I’ve been disappointed the last few times we’ve been in Burger King, McDonalds is much tastier and better value for money.

Fish and chips, now, the last time we had fish and chips, we went to a different shop, and the battered fish portion was almost as long as my arm. I was so glad that we’d decided to share the fish.

Ffsseriously · 06/01/2020 18:36

I had very low expectations of this thread but it has exceeded expectations.

katy1213 · 06/01/2020 18:37

Burger King was never going to be a treat.

similarminimer · 06/01/2020 18:54

@happycamper11 - not familiar enough.

happycamper11 · 06/01/2020 18:57

@BondGate were there 6 of you? 👀😆

Aridane · 06/01/2020 19:11

So Asda know how to do Indian food better than Indian restaurants?

Ah, @Nicknacky - don't you know that they're lower calories and not swimming in oil.

And as for pizzas

Oh' and Aldi pizza's is heaven on a plate...just divine. So light and tasty compered to the thick heavy congealed fat bought from take aways

Remember - this is an OP whose family of x3 cannot finish a single sausage from them chippie

MorrisZapp · 06/01/2020 19:17

I got a squid and chips from the chippy van at the christmas funfair, I swear it fed four of us. I bought it for DS but he soon ran out of steam and the vultures went for it.

@happycamper11 only 2 adults and 1 toddler eating the fish. Sorry to disappoint Xmas Wink

BarbaraofSeville · 06/01/2020 21:57

At least we haven't had anyone singing the praises of the monstrosity that is the Asda pizza counter. Every time there's a thread on pizza, there's usually loads of people going on about how the best pizza there is comes from the Asda pizza counter, which leads me to wonder if those posters have ever had decent Italian style pizza, and by that I don't mean anything from a UK pizza chain.

Burger King at airports are vile. We always avoid them

I almost wish we'd gone to bloody Burger King last time we flew out of Manchester. We had decided to 'treat' ourselves to a nice pub meal while we were waiting, figuring it was worth paying a little extra for a proper meal and a pint instead of a tenner each for a shitey fast food burger meal.

But they didn't have my first or second food choice so I had to have something I didn't really want, and fairly average lager was about seven quid a pint, so it cost the best part of £50 for the two of us to have a not very enjoyable pub lunch - main and one drink only each.
