To NEVER want to visit burgerking again

contentedsoul · 05/01/2020 22:11

Was my birthday last week.
As a treat I said I would love a Burgerking meal. We virtually never eat fastfood. Maybe have 3-4 a year. Son has plenty be we usually wait until we're home.
But we do often go out for walks and enjoy pub grub.

Anyway, off we went... My partner told me to sit with our son and went off to order.

3 meals all with regular fries plus son wanted ice cream.
£20.73!!
By the time we had removed the packaging I was dumbstruck as to what we actually got. The burgers didn't come in the sesame baps, the regular fries was a complete joke. You could have emptied all three into a standard coffee mug!! Plus it was freezing cold inside.
Complete rip off.
The week before we had gone out for a walk and decided to eat out. 3 meals, plated with clean cutlery came to less!!

I thought convenience food was supposedly cheap!!
Bugger that, It'll be a very long time before I eat in either McD's, BurgerKing or KFC they have all become too greedy. When all is said and done the food really is junk, its crap, so why the high cost?

I’ve had some enormous fish and chip portions on the coast in the NE.

BK is tasteless and massively overpriced IMO.

Leflic · 05/01/2020 22:47

Disagree with Maccys being nicer. But BK is always pricey. I like they have actual salad rather than a tiny bit of chopped onion and a pickle slice.

CustardDream · 05/01/2020 22:49

Much better going to a chippy!

Redglitter · 05/01/2020 22:49

I thought convenience food was supposedly cheap

Really? I've never found that

moonsmarshmellow · 05/01/2020 22:49

I love a McDonald’s wrap of the day meal, good value especially with a coffee- the cafe range is really nice.

NoSauce · 05/01/2020 22:53

Grim.
Can’t believe you had it down as a treat!

gamerwidow · 05/01/2020 22:55

BK is the worst of the fast food places imo. McDonald’s is much cheaper and better portions (if you like that sort of thing).

Rememberallball · 05/01/2020 22:56

Only ever have BK when we’re travelling up the A303 and it seems to be the only place open (certainly was everywhere we stopped on the way up to Surrey last weekend!!) but at almost £9 for a bog standard meal it’s really overpriced. Far prefer McD’s but then I used to work for them when I was a teenager so am biased!!

As for fish & chips in our small Cornish market town portions aren’t huge but a large fish and chips is enough for DH and I and costs less than 1 meal from BK!!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 05/01/2020 22:57

A whale and chips feeds 2 here, although DS doesn't like battered fish so we don't have it now. I used to prefer BK to McD because I always found the burgers to be juicier and fresher, but recently they have been rubbish and in a stale bun. I don't bother any more.

Dita73 · 05/01/2020 22:57

£21 for three,even two,is nothing

Crinkle77 · 05/01/2020 22:57

OP you may as well just have gone to Wetherspoons.

WhichWayToBoston · 05/01/2020 22:57

Mmm now I want BKb

Gingerkittykat · 05/01/2020 23:00

If you both had the BK app then you could have got your meals for around £10-£11. The long burgers with fries are £1.99 on the app.

I love the burgers, the chips are amazing when hot and the iced cokes are brilliant.

I had noticed my local went through a phase of being grubby but it improved. Service can be crap at busy times but fine when it is quiet.

I miss BK, I only had it when I travelled to a specific place and not been for 3 or 4 months.

contentedsoul · 05/01/2020 23:03

@Crinkle
Funny you mention Wetherspoons...
We went to the Christmas market the Friday before...pretty naff but having paid for 4 hours parking we decided to eat. Walked into Wetherspoons with our 12yr old son to be greeted with 40-50yr old blokes pissed as farts. Turned and walked out. Called at asda on way home and bought Indian take home meal...delicious!!

Can't eat Indian otherwise as they put far too much grease/oil in.

Nicknacky · 05/01/2020 23:05

So Asda know how to do Indian food better than Indian restaurants?

FruitcakeOfHate · 05/01/2020 23:07

Haven't been to one in years after going to the one at Carlisle motor services. That was enough to put me off BK for life! Stick to the chippy.

PyongyangKipperbang · 05/01/2020 23:08

So Asda know how to do Indian food better than Indian restaurants?

Yes, or at least the ones local to me that have all the food with pools of grease on it.

contentedsoul · 05/01/2020 23:11

@Nicknacky
I didn't say that, I said high street indian take away always seem to put too much fat/grease/oil in. I've tried several in my life and all affected me...which I know is supposedly the norm (rolls eyes) but I don't need that shit, I just want to eat and asda (or any of the supermarkets is nice)
Besides, a colleague mentioned his last Indian takeway cost well over £40 quid!!
God knows what he ordered, But I'm content with supermarket meal-in-a-bag jobbies.

I voted yabu for going to bk for your birthday

SnorkMaiden81 · 05/01/2020 23:16

You need Five Guys.

The burgers look like road kill and warrant a second mortgage but heavens to Betsy if they aren't the best burger I've ever put in my mouth.

WorraLiberty · 05/01/2020 23:16

BK is not a birthday treat. Sad

It wasn't your birthday though Sparklingbrook Confused

contentedsoul · 05/01/2020 23:17

Oh' and Aldi pizza's is heaven on a plate...just divine. So light and tasty compered to the thick heavy congealed fat bought from take aways.

Before you start, I spent 4yrs workin in a pizza shop during my college years, saw first hand the crap before it was cooked and sold. hence never visited a pizza shop in the past 25yrs.

OP posts:
OlaEliza · 05/01/2020 23:20

You can ask the Indian takeaway to use less/no oil.

😂😂😂 At Asda being nicer. Asda own brand anything is jank. especially the big soup

Nicknacky · 05/01/2020 23:22

Jeez so you live in an area that serves REALLY big fish suppers, Indian food that’s too oily, burger kings that are crap but Asda is the best.

Maybe just stick to Asda then. Maybe you are the fussy one here?

DickDewy · 05/01/2020 23:24

I’m shocked you view this as a treat tbh.

I can’t think of anything worse.
