To ask has anyone had a ‘medium reading’ done that’s actually been pretty accurate?

Ok ok let me start by saying, my logical side of my head says ‘of course it’s not true, these are very clever people who take money from vulnerable people and are extremely well at picking up on things they’re saying’
I had one done last year, a moment of madness but I was feeling pretty crap at the time and I can only say I was desperate for some sort of peace.
This could all be a genuine coincidence, I absolutely get that but I’m just wondering has anyone else had a reading done where things they ‘predicted’ have happened?

Firstly I was told I would be moving residence very soon and I’d be a lot happier there- I thought absolutely not, I’ve not been in this property long and intend to stay at least 5 years as my landlord wanted a long letting.. one month later I got my notice from my landlord saying he needed the property back- I moved a month later and I’m happier than I’ve ever been in my new home..

She also asked me had my daughter been tested for autism and that she would be diagnosed and get the help she needs- weird thing to ask right? Funnily enough she was already being referred for this and I had my suspicions for months (absolutely nothing I would ever ever put on any social media so pure good guessing I suppose?)

She also told me to be careful with my purse, that I would lose it though not a massive amount of money. Guess who’s purse has gone missing this week? Yep, mine.

Also mentioned my partner (who I’ve been broken up with and having a terrible time with) had suffered a massive lose and was t himself- this is true, his friend committed suicide the year before.

All a big coincidence? Most likely, however I’m interested to see if anyone else had any experience with this?

Either coincidence or she did her research on you.

Liverbird77 · 05/01/2020 11:53

I have seen a few. Some have been utter crap, but three have been spooky.
One knew the nickname I had for somebody, and what he did for a living and also that he was working in a different setting.
One predicted the exact year and month I would have my baby boy. She also knew about a theft from my grandma's wake that I didn't even know about!
One knew that I would be moving to a totally different part of the country before I did. He also knew when I would marry etc. This was five years before and I hadn't even met my future husband.

Sarahlou63 · 05/01/2020 11:59

Back in the early 80's (so long before any social media) I had a reading from a very down to earth young woman in her kitchen. She kept coming up with 'money' but said it was about working with it rather than winning/inheriting it. At the time I was a Berni Inn restaurant supervisor (remember them?) with no thoughts of moving on but within months I'd retrained as a mortgage broker....

Stampy84 · 05/01/2020 11:59

@liverbird
That’s pretty accurate!!!
I just don’t know, how can they know this? Are they just lucky guessing? After I had my reading I actually laughed at myself for throwing away £50!! But as more and more has happened I can’t help looking back on the reading and thinking how strange that she ‘predicted’ this...

Coincidence that is all.

Mediums are vile disgusting lowlifes who prey on the vulnerable and didn't ought to be allowed to operate in this country.

Stampy84 · 05/01/2020 12:01

@Sarahlou63 another interesting one! My logical part of my brain asks ‘did she put the idea of retraining in your head and it just happened?’

It’s interesting hearing others stories!

I was once stopped in the street by a lady who told me some very accurate things, one about my current DP (while I was with my ex and didn't even know DP) and something about falling pregnant in the near future, both accurate

Stampy84 · 05/01/2020 12:03

@HeresMe
Yes, my logical side absolutely agrees with you, after all- nobody goes to a medium if things are hunky dory in their life! It’s normally a break up, or a loss that’s made someone go to one.. so it’s pretty easy for them to pick it topic I guess!

I've had a couple of readings - more out of curiosity than anything else. The first reading I went to was pretty terrible, don't remember a lot from it but the medium told me to write a letter to a deceased relative. Walked away unimpressed and never wrote the letter.

Couple of years later went to a group reading at a friend of a friends house, a few hundred miles away from where I'd had my first reading, different medium. I was a last minute invitee as some people had dropped out. He was pretty good for some people, got nothing off others and then totally nailed me. I don't believe in ghosts, let me just state that and there must be a logical explanation for how he knew what he knew, but I struggle to work out how - cold reading, research (although this was before the Facebook days so I had no real online presence), who knows. He knew so much (although crucially not that my mum was deceased, said he had no "contact" from the spirit world from her 🤷‍♀️) - the unusual colour of my stepmums wedding dress, the career I was studying for, my dads traumatic 2nd marriage, that I'd lost the gem out of my mums ring and that I was getting headaches all the time. All pretty impressive but I could bat a lot of it away as cold reading. Then he said "why did you never write that letter?" And I was completely floored. He didn't say anything like that to anyone else, he didn't know my full name and can't imagine how something so specific to me came up. I know there isn't a spirit world and that mediums are not to be trusted but it blew my mind that he said that! I find it absolutely fascinating, although appreciate that some people get conned - if seen as entertainment than I have no issue with mediums but appreciate for some people it becomes a lot more than that.

Sargass0 · 05/01/2020 12:06

I went to see one when i was about 19 -4 years after my mum died.

She asked if I had lost a female relative? Being stupid i told her that I had lost my mum (didn't elaborate)
She said, well don't worry, she was glad to go!

I burst into tears and told her that we'd had an argument the morning of the day she died before I left for school (I was 15) and was it because of that?

She told me that she thought it would have been cancer as she was so young and had been in pain.

I told her she was killed in a road accident later that day and thanked her for leaving me with more questions than answers.
Psychics- load of bollox.

BillyAndTheSillies · 05/01/2020 12:08

I saw one years ago that told me stuff no one would have known. And I was a sceptic before that. Went in a total closed book didn't answer any questions that could have lead the conversation.

Second one I saw, I walked in and after I'd sat down they congratulated me on my pregnancy. I wasn't pregnant that I knew of. She then went on to say "oh sorry, maybe you're trying then?". So I just thought she was trying it, new wedding ring, fairly young etc. Turns out I was pregnant at the time of my reading, I was late for that months period.

Not too interested in seeing one now, there's nothing I feel the need to know or no one I feel the need to attempt to speak to. Quite happy just trundling along.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 05/01/2020 12:09

This is what I've realised with mediums. People only seek their advice when they are at a crossroads in their life.

Or have suffered loss of some sort.

Or are at their wits' end with their frustrations in life.

A confident person who feels good or even neutral about their life would not seek the, 'counsel' of a medium/tarot cards/fortune teller.

OneDay10 · 05/01/2020 12:09

I've been to one about 20 years ago, so well before I could have been researched for information. And she predicted my life. At that time I wrote it down and forgot about it as some things didnt happen. But I found it a few years ago and I was absolutely shocked at how accurate she was.
I have been tp two others since and they were a load of nonsense.

PositiveVibez · 05/01/2020 12:10

I had one done last year, a moment of madness but I was feeling pretty crap at the time and I can only say I was desperate for some sort of peace

And there you have it.

If you read everything she predicted, you can make it coincide with anything.

Also, people misremember (if that's a word), things that have been 'predicted' and make it fit into their lives as though it's a true fact.

If they genuinely had a gift (LOL), why would they charge someone £50 for it?

Why can't they forsee the lottery numbers?

They are absolute scumbags.

Stampy84 · 05/01/2020 12:13

Thanks everyone, it’s really interesting to read other people’s opinions and experience of this.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 05/01/2020 12:15

They know what phrases to use and how to sound mystical. Yes, it's mostly codswallop but there's enough people who have had the, 'why didn't you write that letter ?' experience of a pp which is why people keep returning and it's no easier to spot the fakes from the tiny minority of, 'genuine' ones.

I'll say Derren Brown before any one else does.

ferrier · 05/01/2020 12:19

Not true. I would. I feel confident and good in my life. But I'm curious. I should imagine a lot of people are.

NewYearNewJobNewHome · 05/01/2020 12:22

I have seen one and she was VERY accurate. However like you, I was sceptical and still am - I've never felt the need to see another.

She also didn't charge me for my reading, and I have no SM so not sure how she would have researched me 🤷‍♀️ maybe it was just a coincidence but she was very convincing.

Haworthia · 05/01/2020 12:22

They’re all charlatans preying on the grieving and vulnerable.

Funny how everyone remembers the things from the reading that come true (the jobs, the babies, the partners) and forgets the stuff that was total bollocks and comes to nothing.

Thistimetomorrow · 05/01/2020 12:23

When I was 20, many years ago I went with a group of friends.
Lady told me I’d be - changing my car, (I’d just bought a second hand one) moving jobs, would have someone very close to me die of a chest related illness. She gave me the first 3 letters STE of a name of a man I would meet and if I wanted to make it work with him I could.
In my head I was saying no, no, no and no.
A month later I was involved in a car accident with a lorry. The car was a write off and I ended up getting another one.
The Company I worked for announced it’s closure, offering their employees to relocate to a site 25 miles away, which I did.
My Uncle who was like a father to me was diagnosed with lung cancer and died.
I met a man called Steve who I went out with for 8 months but due to family pressures from both sides we split up.
I decided shortly afterwards I’d never visit another fortune teller again as I believe no good comes of it.

AutumnRose1 · 05/01/2020 12:25

I've been to one who was spectacularly accurate

I mostly went because I was abroad - this is more than 20 years ago, I don't travel now - and I thought it would be fun.

I would like to see another one tbh but I'm not convinced anyone is reliable.

ParkheadParadise · 05/01/2020 12:28

I had a reading with a medium 2yrs ago, shortly after my mum died. I sat down and she started to hum the hymn I watch the Sunrise. I sat looking at her, when she said your mammy says thanks for singing this to her when she was at the end of life. My mum loved that hymn and I did sing it to her when she was dying.
My dd was murdered 4yrs ago and she never mentioned her. Probably if she had I would have ran away crying.
We are going back to see her next month, we've waited 10 months for the appointment.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 05/01/2020 12:32

This^

What is going to happen in life, will happen. I don't need a preview. It won't alter the facts.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 05/01/2020 12:33

I had a freaky coincidence result once. A forum friend (unrelated to supernatural) offered to answer 1 question per person from the cards. I asked if I would be able to move with my soon to be husband in the near future. No other context.

She told me we would move to a country beginning with G or I.

Next day I had a phone call from my fiance saying he had be rs that morning he was being transferred to Germany in a few weeks (but they agreed to postpone it until after our wedding the next month)

ToEarlyForDecorations · 05/01/2020 12:37

I wonder if these mediums/clairvoyants etc get you 'on side' by telling you things you already know i.e. dead relatives which they've guessed once they have guesstimated your age, i.e. a middle aged person will probably have dead grandparents and maybe one dead parent.

Then the vague guess work starts...…..(which will sound fairly similar to what they've told other clients. Like I say, it's all pretty much a selection of useful phrases.)
