To ask has anyone had a ‘medium reading’ done that’s actually been pretty accurate?

Ok ok let me start by saying, my logical side of my head says ‘of course it’s not true, these are very clever people who take money from vulnerable people and are extremely well at picking up on things they’re saying’
I had one done last year, a moment of madness but I was feeling pretty crap at the time and I can only say I was desperate for some sort of peace.
This could all be a genuine coincidence, I absolutely get that but I’m just wondering has anyone else had a reading done where things they ‘predicted’ have happened?

Firstly I was told I would be moving residence very soon and I’d be a lot happier there- I thought absolutely not, I’ve not been in this property long and intend to stay at least 5 years as my landlord wanted a long letting.. one month later I got my notice from my landlord saying he needed the property back- I moved a month later and I’m happier than I’ve ever been in my new home..

She also asked me had my daughter been tested for autism and that she would be diagnosed and get the help she needs- weird thing to ask right? Funnily enough she was already being referred for this and I had my suspicions for months (absolutely nothing I would ever ever put on any social media so pure good guessing I suppose?)

She also told me to be careful with my purse, that I would lose it though not a massive amount of money. Guess who’s purse has gone missing this week? Yep, mine.

Also mentioned my partner (who I’ve been broken up with and having a terrible time with) had suffered a massive lose and was t himself- this is true, his friend committed suicide the year before.

All a big coincidence? Most likely, however I’m interested to see if anyone else had any experience with this?

I had never heard of the James Randi psychic challenge. It’s been ended now for many years but according to Wikipedia he ran it for years, he’s a magician and every single person who attended for years was unable to dowse for water and couldn’t do other things they said they could either. The prize was $1m in bonds from his magic school foundation thing. Not cash.

I don’t think i would want to go to that if everyone who goes fails. That would destroy anyones self esteem or indeed business! He’s a magician. Would you trust him to conduct things fairly after nobody could do anything? Surely the genuine ones would be able to do some things?!

Would you enter that? I wouldn’t waste my time. Weird that nobody could do anything. I don’t have time to investigate but seems like it’s not mediumship that he was allegedly testing, its other stuff like describing what’s on symbol cards in another room etc. That’s psychic ability too but it’s if a different kind.

A relative many tears ago, when I was a teenager, told me I will have a boy, and many years later a girl. My neighbour who reads cards, just for fun, not for money, not to strangers, said the same. They don't know each other. My son is 10 years older than my daughter. The other one said his work will involve helping people. He was about 4 that time. He's training in sports physio.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 07/01/2020 09:25

I had a reading which said I'd have 4 children but not 4 births.
I went on to have 2 children and 2 stepchildren so I suppose accurate?

Had another reading where I was told I was an Irish nun in a past life - he gave me the name of the order which was the same as that which ran the convent school I had attended.

It's all nonsense. Derren Brown did a show about it which shows how it works.

newnamewhosthis · 07/01/2020 09:29

I did ...

However she had also gave readings to my aunt and cousin who are big believers beforehand and more than likely gave away a lot of the information she had.

it was very genetic ie a male in the family rather than than father/uncle as she wouldn't have been sure what relation they we too me.

Delbelleber · 07/01/2020 09:47

I have seen 2. Both before social media. The first was an old lady, she told me my grandpa was there, told me his name, she saw him sitting at a table rolling cigarettes(accurate) , she told me things I didn't know about until I went home and told my mum and she confirmed these things.
The 2nd one was a gypsy woman at a German Market, she was in her caravan and I went in for fun. She read my cards and everything she said was spot on, things about my current life and things in the near future.

I also have my own tarot cards which have proved very insightful over the years.

Triskaidekafalalalala · 07/01/2020 10:12

I ssw a palm reader who told me I had poor circulation Grin

Zaphod

“because the scattergun approach, combined with confirmation bias, means that eventually they will hit on something and you will remember that hit, but not the misses as much. And sometimes afterwards you retcon misses to more nearly fit with what you wanted to hear.”

She got immediate hits though.

Using the specific example of my dad, telling me “his medical outlook is wrong and he will live a very long time and you mustn’t alter your life on the basis that he will die soon”....I mean, she got immediate hits but that one needed long term testing, and bloody hell, she was right.

She was also right in the specific jobs I would be offered and in what time frame.

AutumnRose1 · 07/01/2020 10:29

Just to reiterate, there were no questions asked, I wasn’t allowed to say anything, I didn’t pay and this predates social media.

KidLorneRoll · 07/01/2020 10:42

It's all bollocks.

People who believe in it are daft.

People who claim to be psychic are either frauds or delusional.

princesskatethefirst · 07/01/2020 11:00

I never went to see one but I was in a shop randomly in a town I dont live in and this lady came over and said to me, ask to speak to me and said that I needed to finish completely with the person in my life as they were stopping me from meeting the person that would be my soul mate. We would have an amazing life. She said random things about he being the person to drive my camper van when we retire and that would shower me I love. The person I was with was lying.
Well as it happened I had finished with my then boyfriend but he kept worming his way back in etc and deep down I knew something was amiss, so that night some just made me switch and I cut him off completely. Two months later, I met my now DH, who indeed is ,my soul mate and worships the ground I walk on. We also share the dream to drive around Europe in a camper in retirement. Also the ex was a lying, he was living with someone else!!! It's something I'll never forget and so random. She gave me a crystal thing too that she said I needed, which I still have to this day.

Aposterhasnoname · 07/01/2020 11:47

I’ve posted this on here before.

EXH has a niece, I’ll call her Jane. Jane claimed to be psychic. We took a mainly “that’s nice dear” attitude to it.

Ex and I split up. DD was not his, and an adult, therefore no contact was kept up with him, or any of his family.

Fast forward ten years. DD has a terrible accident, is in intensive care. I get a Facebook message from Jane, asking what happened. A little bemused I told her the basics, and asked how she knew. Jane said she had “brought back” DD three times.

No one but the drs, me and my second DH knew that DDs heart had stopped three times. We were trying to avoid worrying my already frantic elderly parents.

DD had been suffering from hallucinations due to the morphine and other drugs she was on, one of the things she was insistent on was that Jane had visited more than once, and wouldn’t let her sleep.

Freaks me the hell out to this day.

Elieza · 07/01/2020 11:52

@aposterhasnoname that’s awsum!

KatharinaRosalie · 07/01/2020 11:53

The other one said his work will involve helping people - wouldn't this apply to pretty much any profession? From doctor to flight attendant to personal assistant.

underneaththeash · 07/01/2020 11:55

It's utter nonsense, some people are just very good at reading people. I was watching someone "fortune telling" DH and DS last week and you can see how their body language shifts when they get onto a subject that is correct or important to them and then they lock onto to that fact. For example telling DH he was going to get into cycling (many men of his age are taking up). Telling slightly overweight DS that he was getting into fitness.

I saw another psychic before them and they told me a load of bollocks, you could see her grasping at straws to try and get something correct.

I do a "psychic" thing where I can usually tell who is calling on the landline without checking the number. Certain people tend to call at certain times, I'm expecting a call back from someone or it's been a while since I've spoken to that person. It looks very impressive when I do it, but I'm not psychic!

This is incorrect on many counts. The funds were held as bonds, as many funds are. Any winner would not have received bonds.

It was active until 2015.

As for him being a magician, that’s got nothing to do with the testing whatsoever which had rigorous and publicised rules and rigorous conditions.

AutumnRose1 · 07/01/2020 14:20

People who say it’s all stuff you can read

What can you read from someone when you’ve asked them to be silent and still and just tell them a load of stuff? Without stopping for breath, in her case 😂

LilQueenie · 07/01/2020 14:47

James Randi thinks he can pay those who are genuine but he doesn't know how it actually works. You can't set up a controlled experiment for something you don't know the workings of.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 07/01/2020 14:59

@Aposterhasnoname - that must have been quite scary for you all. I hope your dd is ok now.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 07/01/2020 15:01

Would you be able to share where this coffee shop is please @Passthebubbly

Passthebubbly · 07/01/2020 15:14

@WineOrGinOrBoth - Broxburn in Scotland, guys name is Steven

WineOrGinOrBoth · 07/01/2020 15:17

Thank you - but far for me but you never know.

Mouldiwarp1 · 07/01/2020 15:22

I went to one probably 25 years ago now. It was in an empty shop space at the Elephant and Castle and he’d just put up a screen around a table and a couple of chairs. I went out of curiosity with a couple of friends from work - one of them who was interested in psychics had heard about this chap. He was very accurate with a couple of my friends and even told one she was pregnant when none of us knew yet.

My reading seemed rather vague and ‘generic’ so (apart from the fact my father had a problem with his waterworks - he had kidney stones), I didn’t pay much attention and quickly forgot about it. A few years later I found the piece of paper he’d scribbled a couple of notes on. It said I’d marry someone younger than me - I did by 8 years - and that I’d have trouble with my nerves. I’d been diagnosed with MS about 5 years later. Now the rational me thinks that ‘nerves’ could cover a lot of things, but still .....

diddl · 07/01/2020 15:28

Has any of it actually been specific enough to be of any use though?

I mean OK, they guessed some things correctly, but those things were always going to happen?

KatharinaRosalie · 07/01/2020 15:41

The psycic has probably told a ton of other people they will marry someone younger. One is unlikely to remember and talk about it if it was incorrect though.

AutumnRose1 · 07/01/2020 16:04

diddl not sure if you are asking all of us, but I certainly wish I’d acted on her advice yes.
