Jeremy Clarkson and Aussie fires.

Jeremy Clarkson ha s apparently written a column about the bushfires here in Oz. He apparently feels that God hates Australia, so he’s burning it. He feels that all Australian animals want to kill people ( forgivable view, but untrue. Mostly!) . He feels that Australia is too dangerous for human habitation. Okay, normally I enjoy Jeremy’ refreshingly un-pc, tongue in cheek humour. He does go too far sometimes and he has stepped way over a line here. People are losing their lives and homes. How this can be a topic for humour is beyond me. I know the man can be bigoted, but so outright insensitive?

JC is a loathsome twat. However....he makes a fairly valid point in this case.
Australia is, and always has been, virtually uninhabitable to all but the natives.
It’s too hot, therefore people rely on air con, which uses fossil fuels , which heat the atmosphere further, so people use air con more...and so on.
What we are seeing in the news at the moment is the end result of this.
The lesson should be....don’t live in climates you’re not built for. It will end badly.

Sparklesocks · 05/01/2020 16:17

CaptainButtock ok but it’s a bit late now isn’t it?

AwdBovril · 05/01/2020 16:21

YANBU. He’s an irredeemable wankstain. IMO. Ditto KH.

Mockers2020Vision · 05/01/2020 16:28

Australia is, and always has been, virtually uninhabitable to all but the natives.

Who are the natives? Not Cate Blanchette, obviously. She lives in London. But how long since your ancestors went there qualifies you as a native.

The Australian Aboriginals are no better than any other Australian. They exterminated all the large mammals and introduced dogs which completely buggered up the ecosystem.

Re Clarkson, Public School Prick who for reasons that remain unclear has survived his "There's a slope on that bridge" comment and continued to work in television. Carol Thatcher was escorted from the building for saying something similar off-air.

BonnyConnie · 05/01/2020 16:38

He’s not wrong though. It’s not well suited to human habitation, even the indigenous people who loved a semi nomadic hunter gatherer lifestyle had to alter the flora and fauna to meet their very basic needs. Large cities are sustained only by air conditioning and farming is a risky business to say the least. I struggle to imagine it ever being take and sterile like Britain. Nonetheless it’s not funny. Much of the tragedy of these fires (and all bushfires) has been caused by imprudence but you really don’t kick people while they’re down. He really missed the mark here.

maddiemookins16mum · 05/01/2020 16:39

He is vile.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 05/01/2020 16:49

No OP YANBU

The bloke is an overpaid prat

mbosnz · 05/01/2020 16:51

I wish someone would superglue the idiot's lips together.

BoneyBackJefferson · 05/01/2020 16:56

CaptainButtock

But that is not the whole story though.

They used have planned burns, (arguments for and against) but these used to clear the dead fall areas.

This is also partially the result of that with no plan to replace it.

yomommasmomma · 05/01/2020 16:56

Sorry but why would you start a thread about a column you haven't read????!!

Sugarplumfairy65 · 05/01/2020 17:00

YABU to post about an article that you hadn't even read

mbosnz · 05/01/2020 17:02

Strange that a virtually uninhabitable country has a population of over 24 million.

Air con is a fairly new thing. People have been living there without it for far longer than they have with it.

Obsidian77 · 05/01/2020 17:07

YABU for starting the thread without even bothering to read the article.
Lazy and goady.

Daisydoola · 05/01/2020 17:13

The article isn't saying that at all.
