To ask if you think there will be a second coming?

This is inspired by the new Netflix show Messiah, about a second coming.

I really hope this doesn’t upset or offend anyone and people can share their beliefs and thoughts openly and without prejudice or judgement as I know this can be very sensitive for some people.

Following on from —binge— watching this series I did a bit of googling and it seems both Christian and Muslim regions predict this. (Not researched if any others do yet)

I’m not very well informed about different regions but the concept of this programme has really interested me, I find it fascinating that this could, maybe? actually happen!

Do you think there could be a second coming?!

(And what would it actually mean for the world? A rise in consciousness? Mass healing???)

YABU - no don't be so daft!
YANBU - yes, this could happen, why not?!

I can find more evidence for Harry Potter than I can for a 'Jesus'. But 'faith' is the belief in something without any evidence, so you always get a few people believing it. Thankfully in the UK we are becoming more educated and old superstitions are dying out.

It will always be said their is a 'second coming', David Koresh, David Icke, possibly even global warming will be the new 'Noah's' flood. But short of Netflix, no, their wont ever be a second coming because their is no rational reason to think their is anything to come twice.

But its good advertising for Netflix to make money.

Yanbu- Matthew 24 explains it all, King James Version. m.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Matthew_24/
After the tribulation period, Jesus will return to reign on the earth. All that matters is that you are saved, not by any good you can do yourself, it’s nothing to do with going to church, it’s not about being nice and giving money to charity, nobody can get to heaven on their own goodness, no one is perfect, it’s just trusting that Jesus died for your sins and rose again. Take a look at this video if you want to know exactly how to get to heaven when you die.
And Jesus wasn’t a homosexual.

The Anti Christ will travel from city to city. He will go everywhere to spread mischief.
In the hadith there is a description of one of his modes of transport. Of course in those days there were no aeroplanes etc. but the way it is described with wings spanning this much to this much wide, it sounds like aeroplanes of today although only God knows the modes of transport available when the anti christ is around.
He won't be able to enter Makkah and Madinah as the angels will be guarding the two cities but there will be earthquakes there where hypocrites will die in those earthquakes.
The anti christ will camp outside these cities and keep trying to enter. Oddly enough there is a palace constructed around that location.

I just went on twitter to see comments about the TV series and Muslims were saying it seems like they are mixing up things from Imam Mahdi and the Anti Christ and they should have just thrown in bits from Jesus peace be upon him too so but I'd say just go to the hadith and find a wealth of information there about the signs of the last day in Islam then read up the part about the Anti Christ as after he arrives, Jesus peace be upon him will descend.

I find it hard to believe that someone who did so much good to the world is pure fabrication. However many of the things in the bible have been proven scientifically. One op mentioned the book of revelations some of high can be seen happening today. Nobody knows if their is a god or not so we will have to wait and see.

RoseyOldCrow · 04/01/2020 01:12

Yes, I believe it. It's a core part of my faith. Knowing that heaven is real & that we can reach it through our Saviour Jesus Christ is the thing that has ultimately given me peace after a challenging 4 decades.

On the other hand, I often really struggle with being with "Churchy" people & end up praying & praising Him on my own.

Wellsomebodydid1 · 04/01/2020 01:33

The full version of the video I posted earlier: Did jesus rise from the dead?

NotTheMrMenAgain · 04/01/2020 01:53

I believe in Jesus as a historical person, who had interesting ideas and the conviction to die for them. I don't believe that he rose again as the Christ of faith. I believe that in early versions of the scriptures Mary was described as a 'young girl' and it was later mis-translated/misconstrued to mean 'virgin' - which makes more sense, to me.

I find religion generally interesting, it's fascinating what people believe.

Questions about the existence or otherwise of Jesus Christ, and any supposed second coming, become totally moot once you realise that the cult of Christianity is just a reboot of the cult of Isis and Osiris, which predates the period in which Jesus was alleged to have lived in any case.

You're as likely to see horned gods and folk with the heads of birds walking around at some indeterminate point in the future as you are to see Christ reappearing as neither existed in the first place.

leapinglucy · 04/01/2020 02:29

Depends if you're a theist or an atheist, doesn't it?

bulletjournalbilly · 04/01/2020 03:26

"To those that don’t believe there was a first one, do you think Jesus was totally made up?"

Yes I do OP

Madhairday · 04/01/2020 05:53

the cult of Christianity is just a reboot of the cult of Isis and Osiris, which predates the period in which Jesus was alleged to have lived in any case.

This has been debunked again and again. There is no historical evidence whatsoever to prove Jesus was a reboot of the Isis/Osiris myth. What we know about the story is cloaked in mystery, based on pictorial evidence, and then on rituals developed later on. There are multiple lists of so called similarities between Jesus and Osiris/Horus/Mithras/Adonis etc etc circulating the internet, but none of them can be substantiated with empirical historical evidence. The actual similarities come to very little indeed. The very definition of fake news, in fact.

You are sticking your fingers in your ears and saying lala

I prefer to use my reason than block my brain off. Because of that I have researched this in depth (my specialism was NT theology and history) and continue to do so. I have a living faith but find again and again it is built on a solid foundation of rationality and robust evidence. Faith as a word doesn't generally mean blindly groping in the dark and simply hoping, crossing fingers etc, but tends to be associated with trust - if we say we have faith in a doctor, for example, we've built that for a reason - because they have shown themselves worthy of trust. So faith is more than hope without foundation - it's trust with reason. And it gives me a sense of hope in the most difficult of circumstances which sustains and assures. I'd actually hate to stick fingers in ears and choose not to listen - questioning and use of mental faculties has always been far too important to me, so I continue to do so.

Madhairday · 04/01/2020 05:56

Thanks for your explanations about the second coming in Islam, @babba2014, that's very interesting to read.

EerieSilence · 04/01/2020 06:12

I don’t believe in the second coming, let alone the first one. I believe that Jesus lived as a historical figure but that he was just one of the preachers who roamed the Judea at that time. Unlike the others, his ideas struck a major cord with the people and the politically unhappy decision to crucify him by the Judean government (I don’t think the Romans had a problem with him especially as he wasn’t calling for a military conflict but they didn’t care either whether he lives or not) only supported the legend and helped it spread. I don’t think it would have become so popular without Paul who was a very skilled leader and good politician, in my opinion.
So yes to Jesus, no to God’s son (a rehashed theme in mythologies, e.g. Zeus), water to Chardonnay, resurrection.

SteelRiver · 04/01/2020 06:16

It's all a work of fiction. God, Jesus et al never existed. Probably all made up by groups who wanted to control people, I'm afraid.

mousemousse · 04/01/2020 06:24

If God did exist (which I don't believe) it must be a woman. Women literally create life so it'd make far more sense. Although, the whole resting on the 7th day is in line with most men I've met - far too lazy to put in a proper week's work Hmm

PhilCornwall1 · 04/01/2020 06:48

To those that don’t believe there was a first one, do you think Jesus was totally made up?

Yes, totally made up.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 04/01/2020 06:52

Laughing at the sheer brass neck of someone claiming their Christian faith is based on rationality and reason, while simultaneously dismissing anything that contradicts their preferred account as hokum.

You don't need peer-reviewed material to apply common sense. Most primary school aged children are capable of recognising that belief in the Christian God as described in their bible requires the total suspension of basic logic and reason. Once you start using your inherent ability to reason, you pretty soon realise that not only does that God not exist, he can not exist. Further discussions about the nature of Jesus Christ etc are rendered totally pointless.

The whole thing absolutely requires an suspension of rationality and reason to get off the ground in the first place.

Weffiepops · 04/01/2020 07:01

I'm not religious but I had a peak experience when I was 19 which involved going about my business whilst clearing my mind of all thought. I entered a really high level of consciousness which I've never since managed to obtain. It lasted a week and my sight and hearing was operating on another level, I understood everything, everything made sense. We're all evolving souls who are connected. Creation -creating a myriad of stories, just playing our part. It was the most beautiful few days of my life and gave me a deep sense of peace and 'everything's going to be ok' I think any human could get this state of mind, not sure if Jesus is the first coming or if there'll be a second coming but I do think we're all walking around half asleep and one day we'll all be fully awake.

piesforever · 04/01/2020 07:03

I don't get any of it. So if one person prays for a sick relative and one doesn't, God decides to save the one with "extra prayers"? Not saying there's definitely nothing, but surely if you are a good person, why would you go to the firey pits of hell for not believing?! It's trying to convert people based on control. And why are they so homophobic, what business is it of theirs? Bizarre.

Moonmelodies · 04/01/2020 07:23

The Jesus of the Bible must have been pretty evil to not criticize his dad, who killed millions of innocent people and animals during his many tantrums, and created such a flawed universe. Not to mention raping his mum.

Igotthisjustabout · 04/01/2020 07:30

@Lifecraft it has hsppened since ive been a Christian, by friends and family members.
I won't change though. I don't shove it in their faces so they (and I) have the right to believe what we like. I find the people that do ridicule have quite a low intelligence because they can't have an open minded conversation.

Luckystar777 · 04/01/2020 07:39

Nope, it's a load of nonsense, written to control people, make them afraid. That's not to say there is no afterlife, it's just not going to be anything like what's written in that crazy book - or any of the other books!

There's no Heaven, no Hell, no Jesus, no Satan. Just infinite consciousness, we are energy and we never really die, only our bodies die. That's my opinion.

SaskiaRembrandt · 04/01/2020 07:40

Madhairday would you be kind enough to provide the evidence for the existence of Jesus? I'm interested in primary sources not modern rhetoric and interpretations.

I saw you describe yourself as a theologian on another thread so I'm sure you will have this to hand.
